My homeworld was originally called NOV-545 when it was discovered in the past. It's been nearly 300 of our years, or 10 galactic years, since it was discovered. Now it’s called Helionova, it’s a planet just a bit bigger than earth standards with a G force of 1.3 so things are just a tad bit heavier.
Oh sorry my name is Leah Binoli. I’m a lovely 15 year old girl that wants to be the greatest Space Cadet. Oh right, Space Cadets are adventurers who explore the stars. That said it's really hard.
To get a single recruit class ship, which is enough for a small crew or if I'm still a single planetary adventurer it’s called a party, it takes a lot of money.
Oh right, if you're wondering I’m an adorable mystic purple haired human who is a mage. I’m short but I’m a girl so it’s a bit expected but I guess 155 cm is a bit short even for women.
Oh and by mage I really do mean the kind that do magic but the use of old staffs and the crappy robes is something of ancient past. Not even newbies use them because we are given standard beginner gear when we join. For mage we use the new catalyst weapons in the shape of guns and wands.
The guns are for rapid fire bolt and ball spells while wands are for large scale and timed spells.
Anyway, I’m diverting, stupid me…
Eheheh sorry anyway is said becoming a good Space Cadet is really hard right. Well the reason is because for anyone to get big after a certain point then need a core.
Um...how do I explain...Oh right! Dungeons, if you know what they are you know what cores are. Core are essentially just dungeon cores which were removed by dungeon tamers. Oh right I need to tell that.
Dungeon tamers are a unique job class that go into dungeons and completely destroy them and remove the core. They have skills to locate newborn dungeons which are easy to obtain and remove from dungeons without killing the soul inside.
They have even more skills to tame and train the dungeon core until it submits.
Once that happens the core can be put to use by humans. These cores can be turned into the main control system of a city which is built by its magic or in my case as I want to be a free adventurer, a ship.
After a certain point the ships take up to much material to build so dungeons are used breaking that point in both technology lacking as well as material.
The cheapest core are called trained cores. They are called problem child cores because 8/10 are strong willed and only learn what they need to do but are disobedient part of the time if its life isn’t in danger.
There are even several cases where the unimaginable was discovered. Reincarnated souls sometime appear in the cores. Well, not so unimaginable since the only reason the civilization of our empire reached the stars was because of Otherworlders who died and rebirthed in our worlds.
The reincarnated as you can guess have their memories but also their strong free wills so they are only trained cores which sell for only 20,000 credits. The ones that are more knowledgeable go for 50k but since it’s hard to know what they know or not they are all put for 20k unless they simply show what they know.
After that are ranked cores from F-A which are normal dungeon cores which were completely tamed and are ranked on their size. Size means they are older and smarter.
As for the price of the ship, I mentioned the recruit class right. That one cost 5k credits. As a newbie adventurer with no party and only my experience from the magic academy which taught me how to do my class to intermediate rank which lets me venture into my cities dungeon, I see little chance of me getting either of them any time soon.
As I sit in a simple green dress in one of the many park plaza’s near the center of town where the dungeon tower, or the location of the cities dungeon if it's easier to understand, is located.
The tower itself is there to be like a mega mall going up nearly 70 floors while at the same time the dungeon goes down the same amount of floors.
You can only access the floor up to the number you have explored down below. You get a special magic crystal necklace which records the number of floors you passed as well as keeps you safe and teleports you out of the dungeon if you are in danger of dieing at the cost of one floor you have explored.
I was looking up at the greenish blue sky of my planet. This world was one of the few that had three moons. One was red and a place full of lava and fire monsters, one was blue and the surface was 87% covered in water with many isolated islands each with a unique isolated ecosystem and the last moon was green and blue like our planet but it had a purple hue around it. The last one had one huge land mass on one side covering 45% of the space on the planet. The land inland was green because of several huge lakes even visible from here and they branch out over the massive continent feeding the life on it.
I always come here when I am bored or sad. Right now I was bored if you’re wondering.
I’m an F rank newbie so the dungeon is only open on monday for our rank because on sunday a general clean up of the naturally spawning monsters in the dungeon is done so weakened monsters are a better match.
Might I remind you that I am intermediate rank with my magic skills in both Fire and Water as well as Mystic type magic. Mystic is anything that doesn’t fall under the elemental types like psychic type magic.
That said, the dungeon is managed by the city's mayor who is a grand Archmage and every tuesday he invests his mana into the dungeon so us lower ranks only have one day before the dungeon regains its power to respawn it’s monsters.
I simply sigh as today was wednesday already and training can only get me so far in skill level.
I look at the bracelet on my left wrist and letting my magic power flow within it, it lights up and several screens including a clock appears. It was already 4:47 pm, oh right, the time here runs 26 hours a day and we have around 42 days in a month and 13 months in a year. We use the same dating system as always to make it easier. No random names with strange syllables and stuff.
Anyway seeing the time I get up and turn towards the east which eventually would take me home.
The streets were like any other, split in highway style with a cement wall enchanted with self repair and magic reinforcement. Each side was for one way and each had three lanes each with steady flow of cars that ran on magic power stored in the mana crystals used as fuel.
I continue walking for 6 km in the unchanging streets until I take a left away from the main street. Two blocks down the city already begins changing. The tall business buildings turn into apartment and soon into dormitories. I stop here in front of my own. Not literally my dormitory but the one I stay at. No I’m not an orphan, at 15 you are an adult so as you leave school you also leave your parent's lap and walk on your own two feet.
As I take a step I hear the sound of crunching paper and look down. Under my feet is a lottery ticket. I hold it firmly in place and pick it up and check the date and numbers. The lottery winner would be announced today. I’m rather surprised to find something like this so I store it in my pocket and enter the dormitory.
I see a few of the girls who stay as well as I climb to the second floor and enter my room which is room 203.
Inside is a small 5x5 meter sized room with a kitchen on the left wall adding another 2x4 meter to that side and on the opposite side was the bathroom. In my room in the center was my bed, dresser and a tv and pc projector.
I pull out the lottery ticket and check which contest it is. Afterwards I pull up the tv show that will show it and the website to make sure. In the pc projection was the website with all the info and half of the numbers all of which were on my card. Just as I notice a white area on the lower right changing to something close to a scanner you see in supermarkets scanning products I heard the voice of the announcer.
“Alright! All of you who have lottery tickets, please look in our site for the glowing scanner zone and place your ticket within for it to scan and validate your ticket so you are viable to win. We will wait only five minute until it’s closed and we will show the rest of the numbers. The winner will not be announced but the number of winners will. The total prize is a total of 25,000 credits to the lucky winner.” He said enthusiastic.
I smile and unfold the ticket and hold it facing the projector and as the red light hit the ticket it turned to one of scanning until finally it shined green before turning red again.
On the screen a box showing I was valid now appeared. A timer on the time kept ticking from five as he said before until finally it hit zero.
“ALRIGHT PEOPLE!! TIME'S UP! Now then it's time to reveal all the numbers as well as the number of winners in this week's lottery roll.” He says and points his hand up where a lot of balls appear. Half had numbers revealed while the rest were pure white.
“NOW REVEAL!” The announcer shouted as he undid the spell hiding the numbers.
They all reveal their number and one by one he shouted them out and I looked at my ticket.
At each number my eyes turned wide. When half of the new numbers were called my eyes were wide and now a grin was slowly growing with each new number until the final number was called sealing the deal of me finding a winning lottery ticket.
“And there we have it people, now the number of people who won number at.” He said and pointed up at a blank ball. It dimmed revealing a large number 1.
I almost shouted but since I know the dangers of a newbie mage like me winning something like this I simply jumped and danced while holding it in.
“Now the winner should come by the first floor of the Dungeon’s tower to claim your prize. Be careful and good luck.” He said and the show ended and the next show began.
I closed everything and jumped in bed before fixing myself to be laid faced up. The ceiling of my room was decorated with glow in the dark stickers. It’s childish but I like it.
“25000 credits. I can buy a recruit class ship easy now, also all the gear in the lower ranks will help me fight.” I thought. “Maybe I should take my chances with the cores.” I thought out loud.
The thought was a serious one, the trained cores are creative but disobedient while the tame cores are obedient but uncreative and normally have the same stuff. In short, the trained cores I will need to become friends with but even then the result can be big because there is a chance of someone smart appearing.
I thought this over a lot until I went to sleep.
The next morning I wake up normally not wanting to get anyone suspicious and left like normal. I don’t like staying indoors so I stay little inside the dorms.
Once out I travel to the Dungeon tower where I find a few new reporters. Frowning I simply ignore them and they do the same.
I enter the first floor and find a huge lobby held by four main pillars perfectly symmetrical to one another in position in the room.
I looked around but seeing no one was looking for the winner in particular I walk to the closes reception desk.
“Greetings, how may I help you miss?” She asks professionally.
Confused as how to ask I put my hand in the breast pocket and pull the ticket out half way showing the name.
The girl looks close and nods. “Please this way.” She says and guides me to a back door and down a corridor. Inside was an elderly man. “Sir, this young miss was the winner.” The reception girl said.
“Oh my, so this is the one, may I see the ticket?” He asked.
I hand it over and he looks it over for a minute before nodding.
“Yep, this is definitely the winning ticket. Good for you miss, now your prize.” He said and a screen appeared from his wrist and mine activated as well without me wanting it to.
I was shocked and quickly got on guard.
“Ahaha, I see the magic academies are still doing a good job. Yes, don’t worry, I simply activated because I did the transfer to your account. Be careful of vultures ok.” He said and winked.
I simply nodded and followed the girl back and left. No one so much as noticed me as I entered or left.
The first thing I wanted to do was get a new ship. This would let me travel outside of town and fight in less dangerous dungeons which would let me train more.
I quickly went to the ship yards after getting a taxi since it was nearly 40 km away. Well I guess the ship sellers, since the shipyard is where it's built.
The sellers stores looked like a car dealership but about 50 times bigger because of what is selling.
As soon as I get out of the taxi I could already see the ships that were placed outside.
All around people were walking but in less number since it's not like everyone can buy it so easily.
As I look around I spot the recruit class ships. There are several types of ships, cargo, research, explorer and fighter. It's also biggest to smallest in that order as well.
I walked through them and stopped at an explorer type that looked a bit old but looked good for a party of at least 8 to live comfortably inside.
As I look it over someone approached and called out.
“Miss, are you interested in this model?” The gentleman with glasses, sleek hair and a tux that made him look like an executive or government worker.
“Um, yes. This is a recruit class explorer right?” I asked.
“Yes, this is one of them, if you are interested in other models there are better higher ranked ones further in.”
“Oh, no. I’m a new adventurer and I have enough to buy a ship but still a beginner.” I said frantically.
“Oh I see, well, if it’s like that then what class are you miss?” He asked.
“Mage short mid ranged.” The second part is how good my marksmanship is with the gun and wand.
“Mage...as an adventurer I guess this ship is the best starting option.” He said while rubbing his chin.
“Um, sir does this ship come equipped with a core holder?” I ask.
“All ships have them. Those who are lucky to get one early on need a place to put it so all models low rank or high are made with one.” He replied. “I guess it should be enough for you now right. Like all recruit class, this is 5,000 credits.” He said.
I nod and open up my wrist pc and he does the same. He starts doing all the work and I accept the transfer and the ownership papers were transferred to me.
“Thank for doing business. You mentioned that you wanted a core as well?” He said.
“Um...yeah but...i only have money for a trained one.” I said.
The man frowned a bit. “Well, that's expected. Are you going to wait, it's a rather big gamble getting a trained core especially for a young person such as you.” He said warning me.
“Um, yeah. I will try my luck with one. They are also sold here correct?” I asked.
He nods and then calls someone.
In moments a woman arrives with a trolley. On it were many marble sized cores glowing in random colors. There were at least 30 there on the table.
“You may choose your pick but be warned, we don’t do refunds for trained cores. It's a hassle to remove them from the ships they are placed in.” He said.
I nod understanding and look at the table.
One by one I examined them and the one that caught my attention was a bright red one that also shined black, yellow and orange in irregular intervals.
I pick it up and show him. He nods and begins doing the paperwork.
“Done, just accept and we are done.” He said. I press the button to accept and the paperwork was passed to me.
At the same moment the ship AI recognized me as captain and the ship's information began to flow into my wrist PC.
The gentleman bids me luck with my future and leaves.
I look at the ship I purchased and soon I see the entrance near mid section. The ship was 3 stories high even though it was a small ship and was 16 meters long with the bridge being at the front and the door opening up into the cargo bay in the lower deck.
Near the back of the ship sat an elevator which took me to either the main work area where everything that makes the ship work is located or the top floor which is the captain's room.
Since I already had the core I go to the second floor and look around.
The corridors were light blue painted with lights on the top corners and lower corners of the corridor walls. The doors for each room were slide open doors.
Half way through I found a hologram of a woman appear before me.
“Greetings Captain Leah Binoli, I am G47AH, I am the AI unit installed into this craft to assist the captain in his endeavors.” She said in a robotic voice.
“Thank you, please guide me to the core holder.” I order her.
AI units are unique. They can be growth types or stationary. You can guess what each are by the type. Growth type get smarter and better at doing their job with time while stationary have a set parameters for their workings. Also growth types are the only type that can gain sentience and even then they remain very loyal to the captain that helped them grow that far.
The AI led me near the center of the small craft and into a room which had a large cylindrical container made of very strong carbon fiber glass.
“Please drop the core within the holder. The entrance is near the top.” The AI said and appeared floating while pointing the lid.
I see a few steps pop out from the wall just behind the container.
Walking over I climb the steps which put me just right to reach it so I lift the small lid and drop the tiny crystal inside.
The small marble rolled in and fell and as soon as it was half way in static from all around stuck it and it stopped in mid air.
“Commencing core subjection…” the AI said and just like that several bolts of static shot out hitting the core.
It reacted to it and it kept getting struck by the static. Suddenly though one of the static bolts holding it in place turned black and vanished and when ever a bolt attacked it would strike back.
“Warning….ERROR….ship system compromised….ship defense system compromised...ship main FRA...A..M…..” It stopped half way and suddenly all the static turned black before it began alternating between the colors the core shifts through. The ships lights all turned off.
Only the light from the core was lighting the place.
“Gyahahahahaha” I jumped at the sudden low giggling as if from a madman.
“Gyahahahahaha” It laughed again and I turned around.
“COME OUT!! AI UNIT WHERE ARE YOU!!” I shouted at the top of my lungs.
“Gyahahahahaha” The laughing continued as it somehow watched me.
I pull out my magic gun and the wand and prepare to shoot.
“A child should be careful with stranger~~~!!” The laughter stopped and said in an echoing voice that sent chills down my spine.
I moved to the middle of the room to be ready for anything.
A sudden noise which was the steps retracting made a lot of noise and I jumped pointing the gun that way but all I spotted was the core.
Finally I heard the door open and when I looked I nearly fainted.
“BBAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!” A sudden shout from the floating hologram head of a man I never saw before.
I lose all strength in my legs and even pee myself as I land on the ground trembling.
Suddenly all the ships systems and lights turned on and what I saw was more than scary. Rolling on the ground was the hologram of a hoodlum you would see in bad zones of rogue zones.
He had many piercings and body art and a really weird hair style and he was rolling around laughing like there was no tomorrow.
“GYAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHA!!! T-T-THAT FACE!!! IT...IT WAS PRICELESS!!! LOOK LOOK!! GAYAHAHAAHAHAHA!!” He shouts when suddenly several images of my face when I was nearly scared to death appeared.
“GYAHAHAH GYAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!! I CAN’T BELIEVE DIEING AND LISTENING TO THAT OLD BITCH WOULD LEAD TO SO MUCH FUN!!! GYAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA!!!! THIS IS GREAT!! GYAHAHAHA NOT ONLY DO I GET A CUTE GIRL TO PISS OFF!! I GET A SHITTY SPACE SHIP TO MAKE DEADLY!!! THIS IS HEAVEN ON EARTH!!!!” He shouts happy as he can be.
Still not over the shock I just watch the hoodlum as I slowly regain control of my body. When I calmed down. I could feel my rage slowly growing as the fear subsided.
"WHAT THE HELL IS YOUR PROBLEM!!! AND WHO ARE YOU!! AI UNIT APPEAR THIS INSTANT!!" I shouted in my rage as a bit of tears also ran down my cheeks as a sign of my fears still being there.
The hologram stopped laughing a moment and looked at me before laughing and getting up.
"Gyahahaha, you mean this bitch?!" He said and snapped his fingers.
To his left the ships main AI appeared and with his left arm leaning on her shoulder he supported his weight on her. He then took his right and began to slap the AI's cheek.
"This bitch here is weak! It's probably harder to fuck a 13 year old then it is to hack this bitches software and take control of the ship! Gyahahah, I did the same thing she was trying to do, sealed her up! Even now she is trying to overrun me but I am to good for a scraped F rank growth type piece of shit that only knows mainstream stuff!" He said all the while with a disgusting grin.
"I just wish I could override this fucking captain command!!" He suddenly said with a frown as he made the AI vanish. "Seriously the codes made to at least protect the shitty captain are some serious stuff. It's a self repairing and growth type seal that will get better with each attempt to break it. Fucking thing is built to last!!" He shouted as he did the actions to kick the holders main panel but his foot just disperses on impact.
"So...what are you going to do with me now?!" I asked a bit frantic.
He turned to me hearing my voice and a grinned formed. Suddenly he vanished and appeared crouching with his face near mine.
"Well obviously I'm going to be this shitty ship's main AI and that bitch my maid! I can't do much besides that because of the fucking system and I cant kill you and gain freedom so I will at least run this rust bucket!" He said in a moderately calm tone but I did note a strange tone of voice.
"NOW THEN LET'S HIT THE STARS!" He suddenly shouted and I quickled followed up.
"WAIT WE CAN'T!!" I shouted.
At once he started at me and put his face close again.
HUH~!! And why not captain bitch!!" He said pissed off.
"Did you by chance check how much magic power you have and how much fuel we have as well as how much MP it cost to make more." I tell him.
Yep this is the main advantage of having a core. They are essentially the main workers of the ship and the fuel source.
As soon as I finish saying that several panels appear around us.
One showed ship status, another fuel and life support, another showed several other types of thing and the last one was the cores purchase screen.
He looked intensely at the purchase screen then at the fuel tank which was filled with only planetary travel fuel.
Suddenly he was staring down at me rage in his eyes.
"OI OI BITCH!! What the fuck is this planetary shit and space fuel shit!!! And why the fuck does the space one cause 500 MP to fucking buy!!! AND WHERE THE FUCK IS THE 3K MP I GATHERED WHILE LISTENING TO THAT BITCH TALK ON AND ON!!" He shouted.
"Um...dungeons loose all but 100 MP when they are removed from their dungeon or holder or added to one." I said in a small voice.
"GYAAAAAA THAT BITCH!!!! IT'S SO FUCKING HARD TO GATHER MP FROM THE FUCKING AIR!!!" He shouted while leaning back with both hands on his head.
I actually looked at him with pity now. I believe gathering ambient mana for dungeons that still don't know the gathering rate is around 0.1 for every 10 minutes.
To gather 3000 is rather impressive to say the least.
After his outburst his previous energy was burn out and he was sulking in the corner while drawing circles in on floor.
"Um...can you release the AI. I still need to get my things at home before I can leave the city to find low class dungeons to train in." I asked.
"Ah...make her stop trying to capture me and make me the main controller and its done." He said lifelessly.
I reluctantly agree and he unseals the AI and instantly the static fire commences but I quickly undo the order and give the new order.
She quickly accepted the order and with this she could access the entire ships controls again.
"I'll be wallowing in despair for a while. Don't talk with me brat just do what you want." The hoodlum said and his hologram vanished.
As quickly as he appeared he was gone and left me with the AI.
"Um...that...was scary." I said out loud. "Please take me to the bridge so we can leave." I tell the AI. She bows and tells me to follow.
The bridge was near the front and had three seats near the wall. One was for a technician who specializes in the programming part of the system. On for weapon system and one for scanner. In the middle was a big seat for the captain with many controls around it. In front of the captain seat was another control panel with a glass screen and following the view to the wall was the window of the ship which showed outside.
I sit down on the seat which moves forward and puts me in position to use the controls.
"Please place your wrist module in the captain's control slot." The AI said as a small block appeared in front of me and opened up showing a small circle.
I remove the wrist pc and put it in. It was small since I have a thin wrist but the shape conforms to its shape and it pulls back. A small glass top covers it once it was back inside the panel. Suddenly all the screens on the captain panel turned on.
"Please input the location you wish to go." The AI asked.
On the screen, map of the gigantic city Rokita, which is the city dungeons name, appears.
Using the dungeon tower as a reference I find my dormitory and make its location.
Suddenly the course I would take turns to an empty lot one block away.
I accept the trajectory and the ship starts to take off. The thrusters below the ship fired off and my ship began to rise. From the window I looked out to see the ground getting further.
My adventure was just starting and I can't wait.
