Chapter 42: The Keys

Chapter 42: The Keys

Alice woke up in a familiar place, the white void from a dream a few months back. She stood up and looked around her surroundings.

"I'm back in this dream now huh? Will Senpai be in here?" She muttered to herself, Sugimoto being the first thing on her thought.

She looked into the distance and saw the same door before. She walks over to it and touches it's frame. She noticed that the door was still unlocked and pushed the door open. The door collapsed in front of her and the white lights turned into darkness. She looked around her surroundings and there she saw Sugimoto, chained up by lockets surrounding him. Pixels censored his face and hid his identity.

"Senpai...?" Alice muttered.

He was kneeling on the ground, not moving an inch. She looked closer at the locket and suddenly noticed that each locket had names. She inspected each and every locket, just to see what they all say.

"Passion, Love, Honor, Guilt and Regrets." Alice muttered.

Alice was confused when she saw the lockets, she didn't know what they all meant. She reached into her pockets and pulled out another key. She inspected the key and noticed the words spelled out Passion on it. Alice's eyes widened and she began searching for the locket with the same name as it.

"P-Passion huh? So if I just put this in, it'll unlock it then." Alice muttered.

She pushed the key inside the hole and began twisting it. Suddenly the ground began shaking and suddenly Sugimoto woke up. She looked at her with a slightly panicked face.

"A-Alice.. I-I'm sorry... Don't hate me!..." He said to her.

"S-Senpai..." Alice muttered.

The ground began swallowing him up, he looked to the ground and looked back Alice.

"F-Forgive me!" He screamed at her.

She suddenly woke up again from her sleep and she looked around. She noticed that she wasn't in her room. She was in another space, the room was painted in dark and white.

She looked around the room and tried to get a better picture. She noticed that it was at a funeral with other people attending it. She noticed some familiar people at the funeral and she decided to look closer. Once she got closer, she saw a smaller girl, with short black hair standing in front of it with tears in her eyes. She placed an arm over her and the girl looks slightly up to her.

"Don't cry." The little girl muttered.

Alice was surprised when she heard the little girl spoke for the first time, she looked at her with a confused tone.

"W-What do you mean? I'm not crying." Alice told her.

Alice placed her hand on her face and felt tears rolling like a stream, she was shocked to see herself crying despite not knowing what she was crying about. She looked at the tombstone and there she finally understood the reason why she was in tears.

"D-Dad's f-funeral day?" She muttered in shock.

She looked around and everything began feeling real, the crowds depicts the people that came to his funeral and the little girl was her younger self who was comforting her. Alice was about to break into tears and went to hug her younger self.

"I-I'm sorry we'd have to go through this!" Alice told her younger self.

Her younger self stood there in an almost stoic way, she looked at her older stuff and held her up.

"Will you promise me a single thing?" The young Alice asked her.

She looked down at her, trying to hear what promise she was about to go up against. As she stood there, the little girl grabbed hard onto her hands and pointed towards something.

"don't let him get away..." The little girl said in a shrieking tone.

Alice jumped slightly from hearing her shrieking voice rather than her soft and innocent voice. She looked up and saw a shadow figure standing a bit away from her. Alice was frightened at first but grew curious about them. The figure began walking away from her and Alice began pursuing her.

As she began chasing, rain began dropping down in black as Alice tried to catch up to him. Suddenly she looked around and noticed that she was began feeling heavier. The black raindrop made her heavier and heavier. Alice continues to chase after him but soon the entire world is filled with the black color slowly devouring her. She began feeling like she couldn't breathe and tried to catch her breath.

"Wah!" Alice gasped as she woke up.

She looked around her bed and began catching her breathe. She was sweating bullets and felt a bit uncomfortable with her pajamas soaked. She got up and began heading to the showers for a quick bath. During her bath, she began thinking about the dream she had.

"So every time I sleep in a tired state, I will get a nightmare. But after every race day, I kept dreaming about my Senpai being locked in chains. I think there's a pattern to this, maybe I should try experimenting with it later." Alice muttered to herself.

She began remembering the keys and the paddocks that were in her dream, she didn't know how she kept obtaining the keys but she managed to unlock at least one of them. There are now four padlocks left on Sugimoto's chain.

"So I've only gotten a passion for now huh? What does that actually mean anyway?" Alice thought to herself.

She began remembering the dark figure that kept reappearing in her dreams.

"That figure has already appeared through multiple dreams already. I don't know who they are and what they're supposed to represent. But I feel like it has to be something or someone." Alice muttered.

Alice soon finished taking a bath and went to change her clothes. After changing her clothes, she heard a familiar tune coming from downstairs. She went halfway down the stairs and saw her grandpa playing his favorite tunes every morning of the day. Her grandpa noticed her by the stairs and called her.

"Come down and have some tea, Alice. I'm still preparing the sandwiches." Her grandpa told.

"Alright!" Alice said with an enthusiastic voice.

Alice went to the table and sat down across from her grandpa. He was still spreading the jam onto the bread as Alice sat there. While he was still preparing her sandwich, her grandpa decided to have a small talk with her.

"So, I saw you coming home last night with a guy in a blue Subaru. Mind explaining who they are?" Her grandpa questions her.

"Ah, he's just my Senpai from the same team as I am. I just asked him to drop me off here." She told her grandfather.

"I see. You should be careful with boys Alice. I don't want you getting hurt by them." He told her.

Alice began remembering all the times Sugimoto had already dropped her off at her home without her grandfather knowing. She just nods her head and agrees to her grandpa's advice. After her grandpa finished her sandwich, she began sipping on her tea and eating her sandwich. Her grandpa chuckles seeing her eating her food.

"Eh? Why are you laughing gramps?" She questions him.

"Oh, it's nothing. It just reminds me of the old days when you were so young. Your dad would always beg your dad for a sandwich or two." He told her.

"Hmm, maybe this is the reason why I love sandwiches." She chuckingly said.

"Yeah but sadly even from eating a lot of food, you only grew a few inches before stopping completely." He jokingly said.

" Yeah, don't push your luck, Grandpa." She said with an irritated look on her face.

After having breakfast, she said goodbye to her grandfather and made her way to school. As she arrived at school, her teacher suddenly dragged her in and brought her to the inside of the hall. She was suddenly standing on top of the stage to give a speech to the students about her success. She hadn't prepared a speech for herself and was nervous the entire time. But she managed to pull through and got to the day.
