Chapter 37: Zephyr vs Elf Guard

Zephyr's Lightning Strike caught the Elf guard on the shoulder and sent him tumbling down, screaming in pain.

Seth saw this and shouted his name. The boy thought he was done for already and was static to see him intervene.

The Celestial Elf managed to recover and stood back up. His left arm was hanging uselessly after receiving the impact of Zephyr's magic.

"How dare you injure a Celestial!" He was absolutely livid now. "You humans are nothing more than pests...we should have never allowed you to keep existing!"

Zephyr did not mind the Celestial's words. He was more focused on his movement, ready to react at any second. He needed him to get closer… if he tried to use his Lightning Strike from here, it would certainly miss the target. It was clear that this Celestial Elf combat style relied heavily on speed.

A quick peek at his stats revealed he had eighteen remaining Mana points. Just enough for what he had planned.

The Celestial guard let out a combat shout before charging directly at Zephyr, his longsword firmly gripped in his right hand.

Zephyr stood in place and followed his opponent's movements with his eyes. His enhanced senses made it seem like the elf was moving in slow motion.

But after crossing half the distance, Zephyr felt a gust of wind hit his face, and the elf's movements became much faster.

'He is using wind magic to enhance his movement speed!' Zephyr realized. It was the first time he had seen magic used in such a way.

The Elf quickly twisted his heels and changed directions, not willing to give him an easy target.

He saw the Elf warrior increase his speed even more, to the point that it was difficult for him to keep up with his movements as his opponent tried to get behind him.

The moment he lost track of his oponent, he knew the Elf was behind him.

'Now!' Zephyr estimated he was already close enough.

"Lightning Nova!" Sparks surrounded his body and burst outwards in a perfect circle.

The Elf was about to perform his attack when he was hit by a wave of electricity.

It did not cause much damage to him, but it was enough to stop him for a moment, revealing his position and staggering him just long enough for his next move.

Zephyr twisted his torso to aim his hand behind him, at the attacker. "Lightning Strike!"

This one hit the Elf right in the center of his chest, piercing his armor and coming out on the other side, burning everything in its path.

With his heart completely destroyed and his lungs badly burned, the Celestial fell backward onto the stone floor with his eyes still open and an expression of pure shock.

[Level up…status recovery…]

"You did it, you won!" Seth came running to his side while cheering loudly. "This is incredible, I never thought that a human could… what are you doing?!" Seth pointed at him.

Zephyr was currently busy, taking the sword and scabbard from the recently deceased elf.

"What does it look like? I'm taking his sword and scabbard."

"Ah… I see." Seth understood at least. A sword was not something a human could acquire easily since only Celestials were allowed to have martial weapons.

And going south of the Wall, there might not be another chance to get a weapon like that.

Even if they find some remains of the old Kingdoms, the weapons used by humans of the past had likely rusted away already.

"But why are you naked?..." Seth asked.

Zephyr secured the long sword onto its scabbard and set it aside.

"Wait, what are you doing now?!" Seth could understand taking the sword, but Zephyr was taking the dead elf's boots.

Zephyr showed him his naked feet. "I need these boots more than he does. Now… don't just stand there and help me out! I also want his pants."

"His pants too?" This was just too shameful for him. He had been taught since he was little that stealing was wrong, but… stealing from a dead Celestial was just on another level. "Aren't you worried about Divine Punishment?"

Zephyr scoffed. "If the Gods haven't punished me already for killing him… they won't care if I also take a few of his things."

Zephyr finished taking the boots by himself and got started on the pants. "Come on, help me. Hold his arms while I pull them down."

"That's…" Seth appeared hesitant to perform such a heinous task.

"Hey! We need to leave before another patrol of Celestials comes here. So help me already!. I need some pants!"

Seth had no choice but to reluctantly help. "Ew… Zephyr, this is disgusting…" The boy complained as he held the dead elf's arms.

"These are great pants...it would be a waste to leave them here." He would have also taken his upper armor, but it had been too damaged with his magic to be of any use.

A few more minutes later, Zephyr had removed everything from the Elf.

He put on the guard pants and also secured the sword to his waist. The pants and boots felt incredibly comfortable and although he had no time to examine the sword closer, he was sure it was of great quality steel.

"Okay, now we better g-"

"You killed him?!"

All of a sudden, they heard the voice of Bill from behind.

Zephyr did not receive any warning this time; he had been too busy to notice.

Still, it didn't seem like Bill wanted to fight. He was just staring in complete shock at the dead Celestial.

"I can't believe this… you killed a Celestial…" For him, like for most humans, Celestials were the closest thing they had to living Gods.

And now, he has seen one being killed… and by a human at that. This has truly shocked his perception of reality to the core.

"I heard that guy calling your name before…" Bill moved his eyes from the corpse to him. "Are you really Zephyr?"
