Chapter 14: Lightning Strike!
“Stop!” Zephyr yelled. He could hear the stone cracking.
The beast ignored his pleas and charged again, smashing its whole weight against the tall rock.
“Nooo!” Zephyr screamed as the whole thing came crumbling down.
He jumped out at the last moment and avoided breaking his skull, but as he landed on his left shoulder, he heard a loud crack.
Zephyr screamed in agony as he rolled away from the falling pieces of rocks.
The red bear growled again, but this time it felt different than before. He could almost swear this was a growl of smug satisfaction at succeeding in its task.
The boy used his remaining arm to pull himself up, but he knew that trying to run away from the beast was an impossible task.
His legs were shaking, and his entire body was hurting.
‘If only I could use that spell that killed the sea monster… why can't I use it?!’ He lamented.
If that spell came from him, that means he should be able to do it again.
‘What was the name? I know it's not just Lightning… I'm missing something!’
The bear approached slowly while making threatening noises.
Zephyr took a step back.
“If only I could remember that spell… I would blast you a-”

* Lightning Strike Lv:1, Mp: 5
* Identify Lv: 1, Mp: 1 ]
“What?!” He was completely startled.
Not just because he heard that woman's voice again, but because a sign with letters had appeared in front of him.
Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.
He could read them with no problems despite not recognizing that language. The symbols were different from the ones depicted in the books he always read.
The red bear stood up on two legs, towering over him. It extended one of its giant arms and prepared to tear him apart with its claws.
“This is not the moment to think! That first spell right there must be the one…”
Zephyr moved his right arm upwards and aimed it at the head of the bear.
“Lightning Strike!”
A sphere of light appeared before the palm of his hand and in the next instant, it transformed into a bolt of lightning that shot through the head of the bear, killing it instantly.
The beast fell backward without having the chance to make another noise, with black smoke coming from the hole left by his magic.
[Level up…status recovery]
He saw the message this time before it disappeared.
And immediately after, all the pain he was feeling disappeared completely.
“Wow!” He exclaimed.
“Wait… didn't the same thing happen when the sea monster died?... I'm sure I heard that voice too, and then I felt recovered…”
Zephyr moved carefully around the body of the bear and examined it to make sure it was dead.
Once he felt safe again, he looked around his surroundings.
“Hello?” He called for the owner of the voice.
That woman had already helped him twice, and he didn't even know who she was.
“Hello?, lady?... ehmm… I just wanted to say thank you….” He could not catch a glimpse of anyone.
“Am I talking to myself?...” He was starting to feel silly. Could he have imagined the voice?
‘But the magic is definitely real…’ He didn't know much about how the magic of an awakened human worked.
The Celestials never offered any information about the subject of magic. It was something forbidden for humans after all.
Perhaps all magic users hear voices like that one.
“Wait… if this voice is related to the magic… then…” Zephyr glanced up at the sky.
The Celestials worship the Four Elemental Gods. It is said that their magic originates from these four Gods. It was given to the Celestials as a gift.
If the voice he heard is related to the magic he received, then it could only be… the voice of one of the Gods.
“Forgive me for not recognizing you earlier… oh great Goddess!” Zephyr got on his knees.
He stood there, kneeling for several minutes, but got no response.
Zephyr wasn't sure if he had to do something more.
Even though he was aware of the existence of the Four Elemental Gods, the Celestials never talked in detail about their religion.
It was yet another thing forbidden for humans. They were not allowed to worship any God, much less the Celestial's Gods.
“I hope I did not offend you… oh Great Goddess!”
He waited for a bit longer, but again… no response.
With no other choice, he stood up.
“I must continue on my journey now!” He made sure to tell the Goddess before taking his bag and going on his way.
It was a shame he didn't have a carving knife with him; otherwise, he could have taken some of that red bear meat.
But without any tools, it would have been folly to even try.
The skin of a red bear is thicker than the average leather armor. It would have taken him days of work to even make a hole using a sharp rock.
His food should be more than enough to reach the town, and then he had enough money to fill his bag with supplies.
What worried him the most now was… how to hide his appearance.
It wasn't just his eyes, but his silver hair would be too eye-catching in a place where everyone has black hair.
“I should at least practice my magic on the way there. It could come in handy if they try to capture me…”
A thought came to him as he was walking.
When those letters appeared before, he saw a list with not one but two spells.
“What was the other one?... Ifefy?... no…”
He glanced at a group of flowers on the side.
“Right!” He now remembered the name.
“Identify!”
[Flower]
The letters appeared again in front of him, but he didn't hear any voice this time.
“It works!” He said with excitement.
“I can truly do magic!”
