Chapter 15: Stats!
“Identify!”
[Rock]
“Identity!”
[Grass]
“Identify!”
[Dirt]
“Hmm… It doesn't give much information.”
He glanced at another bed of flowers, different from the ones before.
“Identify.”
[Flower]
“It just says that…” He was excited to be able to do magic, but this was a bit underwhelming.”
He looked at his fabric bag.
“Identity.”
[Bag]
“Well… at least I can do this.”
He extended his palm and aimed towards a small group of rocks poking from the ground.
“Lightning Strike!” He shouted with force.
[Insufficient Mana.]
“What?!”
Instead of the flash of light from before, he got that message.
“I don't have enough mana?... What is that?” He had never heard that before.
“No, wait… I think the voice of the Goddess mentioned it before… she said it was a… source of energy?”
He at least understood that without this 'Mana', he could not use more spells.
“That's troublesome… what if I am attacked now?... How can I recover this Mana?”
He wondered if resting would be enough.
“It would be nice if I knew how much Mana I have…”

“Whoa! What's all of that…” Zephyr stared in awe at the rectangle filled with information that floated in the air.
He made sure to carefully read everything before it disappeared.
There were many things he didn't understand, but all of this information seemed to be about him.
It even had his name up there, next to the word status.
His health and mana were also shown in numbers.
“I guess this means my health is great, but my mana is almost empty… and then… that +1 per minute… is that how long it takes to rec-...oh!”
He just saw the number go up. Now he had 3/12.
“I was right! It must take a minute of rest to recover one point so if I have twelve, I'll make a full recovery in only twelve minutes. That's very fast.”
He did not know if twelve points of mana was a lot, at least compared to other awakened. He could easily assume that Celestials were much more powerful than this.
“My health seems low though…”
For a moment he wondered if this was because of the Temple Offerings he did every month.
He knew those offerings consumed his life force.
“There is no point in complaining about that now…”
He looked at the rest of the information.
“Strength, dexterity, intelligence, vitality and luck… and those numbers next to them seem to indicate… what? How good they are? My strength is only 3? That sounds low.” He glanced at his arms.
They were not as muscular as some of the other boys his age but he still did a lot of physical work.
“Available points…” He read the last line, trying to understand its meaning.
Everything in there seems to have been expressed in numbers, so these available points…
“Can I use them to increase my stats?... but how do I do that?”
He moved his hand over the panel a few times until his finger accidentally touched the strength stat.
[Strength: It increases damage dealt with melee-type weapons, increases carry capacity, and allows for the use of heavier armor among other things…]
“Ohh! I can touch this and it gives me more information! The Goddess who made this must be incredible…”
He then pressed the other stats and gained a greater understanding of what aspect of his being was affected by each stat.
Dexterity improved his hand-eye coordination and reflexes, making him a more skilled combatant.
Intelligence improved his magical abilities and improved his available mana.
Vitality made him more resistant to damage and increased his available health.
Finally, luck affects fate itself, increasing the chances of positive outcomes for himself.
“This is great but how do I…” He pressed the ‘Available points’ text.
[Available Points: You can acquire them when leveling up or as special rewards. Distribute these to increase your stats by pressing the + sign next to the stat you want to improve]
“Ahh, I see it now!” He got excited when he saw the symbol on the panel. "So, which stat should I improve first?...”
He considered it for a few minutes.
“My strength is too low, let's try to improve it.”
He put three points into it, raising it to 7.
Zephyr immediately felt a physical change in himself.
It was small but also noticeable.
The bag he was carrying felt much lighter and when he looked at his arm, his muscles became a bit more pronounced.
“Incredible! I have truly become stronger… and I still have 12 more points. Where should I put the rest?”
His health was also very low and he was very aware that this was his very own life. If his health ran out… he would die.
Since he was not able to see it before, he didn't know how close he came to dying during his struggles against the sea monster and the red bear.
“I better not think about that… let's increase vitality now.”
He put 5 points, raising it to 10. Then he saw his health jump from 09/09 to 24/24.
“I feel a bit safer now…”
He then put 2 points into dexterity and the remaining 5 into intelligence. He was going to be in trouble if he ran out of mana.
And it will also make his spells more effective.
[Intelligence reached 10…. mana regeneration increased by 1]
