“Come on big bro, pretty please.” Gary said while looking like a puppy in front of Bruno.

“Why do you even need me to go together with you to get your first pokemon? I’m sure you know where gramps lab is.” Bruno said while he finished washing the dishes from their breakfast.

“Why would i not want to go together with you? It’s so you can help me in deciding my second pokemon.” Said Gary while still having the puppy look in his eyes.

“Ah man, sure, i’ll go with you, but i won’t help you decide it, it’s your partner after all, you will be the one choosing who you think would feel better within your team.” Bruno said while petting Gary’s head a little.

“Let’s go!!!” Shouted gary while running in circles around the kitchen.

‘I thought Gary was more mature in the anime, maybe it’s the influence of having a big brother around?.’ Thought Bruno while he went to put his clothes on, and they were different ones today.

He first took off his pajamas and picked up some black cargo pants he had bought which had small metalic parts decorating the pockets and with some deep red stripes alongside the sides of the pants. Then he picked and oversized green long sleeved shirt and put it on, it was customized by himself, in it’s back was a drawing with black lines which made an image of himself, Thorn and Ember, in the front there was a little image of a flame and a thorn intertwining between themselves located where his heart would be, he looked to the side and checked himself in the mirror for a second.

His hair had grown quite a bit during these months, so he had to tie it behind his head in a ponytail, just like he used to in his last life. Sadly, this body was too young to have a full beard so he had to constantly take off the few little hairs that appeared in his face. He was pretty fit from training together with his pokemon and his body still had some scars from his last life that still marked him, apparently these scars were made by pokemon in this world before he came, he was quite tall for his age, currently reaching 1.74 meters tall.

Bruno then continued to pick the last items he needed, he put on his Black hiking boots he had bought for all the traveling he was expecting to do, they were really big and pretty comfy on the inside, he put on his pokeball belt which had magnets that allowed his pokeballs to be stuck in it, the pokeballs were only able to get out of it when the sensor analised he was the one taking them out, there was some heavy technology in them.

The last item was his bag which had mostly everything he needed, a few clothes, books and items to write in them, portions of quick-to-make food for himself and for his pokemon that he had prepared beforehand, a lot of water bottles, pokeballs, the pokedex, the map, a laptop, a tent with a foldable bed he could use to sleep in the wilds, a black foldable bike that only occupied the space of one of it’s wheels and some utensils he used to help him set a camp and cook.

He didn’t put any of these things in Godhome since he needed to use them in his daily life and it would be strange for anyone seeing a 16 year old boy picking some stuff out of the air, not that he didn’t have anything in there though. He couldn’t bring in furniture in yet since he would have to explain his family where their sofa went to, but the garden became more and more beautiful from the time he spent on planting apricorns, berries, apple trees, pokebeans, gracideas, energy roots, mints, herbs, spices and a lot of vegetables he collected these past months. He already had a lot of plants growing and sprouting their flowers, specially the berry bushes, the trees still needed some time but since he could control the entire climate of the garden, their growth rate became pretty fast.

He finished putting on his clothes and saw a necklace on top of his desk which had a fang tied in it, he lifted his hand up and the necklace floated straight to his hand, ‘Being a psychic is so damn good, i can understand why everyone that has a little talent with this go towards sabrina’s gym to train with her even though everyone knows she is kinda crazy.’ He thought with a light smile while putting on the necklace, he then quickly opened his status right before going out of his room.

‘The last three months passed way too fast, i wish i could train these skills a little more before going out.’ Bruno noticed that gaining skills were too difficult and needed a constant repetition in order to unlocking or upgrading them, it was all worth it since when he gains a skill it automatically makes him have a more natural understanding to said topics or the actions he makes, becoming faster and more skilled at their uses by a little bit.

The elite trainer, researcher and tactical command came as a bundle in the beginnning, he was training both Ember and Thorn and he noticed a change in the pattern in Thorn’s tackle, when he called it out to him he gained the three skills at the same time which helped him get the flow of training and battles smoother, all these three skills had beginner in them the moment he unlocked them and changed names when they ranked up. Psychic was only a simple training he made by floating items around himself, it has been getting easier and easier so far and also maintened it’s name, probably because it is a higher tiered skill from the start.

He got the trainee field medic skill by helping gramps in his lab when some pokemon started beating up each other and needed rapid medical care, he got some help from the Nurse Joy he met on Viridian City and quickly estabilized both pokemon, she then saw he had some potential in medicine and started teching him some tips. In one of the emergencies that happened almost daily, the skill appeared.

The cook was the easiest one since he liked cooking for his family and chef’s blade mastery was actually an accident, he has been training his cooking skill since he wants to know how to make tastier foods and also as a way to study more about the nutrition his pokemon needs. One day when he was making lunch, he sensed something flying towards his direction and he put the knife he was using in it’s path, he then noticed it was a caterpie that tried to steal some leaves he was cutting by spitting a web in their direction, the moment he cut the web was when he got the chef’s blade skill. The timing they appeared seems to be kind of random and unexpected but their progression was easier than their creation since it was just the repetitive use of them, even though it took a longer time due to the rising experience needed for the higher rarities.

Bruno went down and stayed at the entrance of the house, since Gary was taking a while he decided to check how far both Thorn and Ember had progressed in these months of training.

Ember also showed an impressive growth, it was amazing that she also learned sunny day by herself without any input from Bruno, but since it was recently acquired they didn’t have much time to train her ability together with it that much, it’s upgrade should be pretty close since sunny day recently became an uncommon skill and they have been using her ability and this skill as a combo during every training at night, ‘Honestly, this might be overkill for the start of my first circuit, let’s just hope i don’t get marked by the gym leaders which i’m sure will happen since i’m an Oak.’ He said while sighing.

“I’m here! Let’s run for it bro, the last one to reach gramps lab has to pay a potion to the winner.” Gary said while already running with a headstart, Bruno smiled and started running after him immediately.

Both of them kept at an accelerated pace and arrived at the lab after 10 minutes of running, “I won, hehehe, you owe me a potion now, lil bro.” Said Bruno while smirking at Gary who was sweating like a fountain while kneeling in the floor.

“Why are..huff…you so….huff….fast?” Asked Gary while grasping for air.

“I have been training alongside my pokemon for a while, you should have seen me exercising with them sometimes, it gets both me and themselves fit. Also, what do you think my pokemon would feel about me if i only ordered them and not even tried to get better myself?” Bruno said while trying to plant an idea in Gary’s mind who just nodded at what he said.

“I guess i do need some training.” He said while getting up and walking at a calm pace towards the lab.

Bruno followed Gary before saying, “I heard from gramps there were 3 more people that were getting their pokemon today, who are they?”

Gary thought for a second before saying, “Well, there’s the loser Ash Ketchum, i think Leaf is also coming for a pokemon and the mute boy named Red is also getting one for his journey.”

Bruno then remembered all three of them since they were famous in the anime and games of pokemon and also because he had interacted with them in the last 3 months and even before he integrated with this body, specially Red, the boy didn’t utter a word but always loved to come and watch him train his pokemon in the arenas by the side of the lab.

Both of them quickly went to the end of the room and saw their gramps talking with both Leaf and Red, Oak immediately saw them and gave a gentle wave and calling them to come closer, ‘No way, Ash is actually going to not arrive on time to get his pokemon.’ Thought Bruno.

Leaf was a small girl that was a little over 1.5 meters tall, she had brown hair that reached the middle of her back and also had caramel brown eyes, she was using a dark green shirt, jeans shorts and black sneakers. Red was a boy of around 1.7 meters tall, he had short black hair and black eyes, he was currently wearing a red jacket with a black shirt under it, jeans, red sneakers and his classic red cap.

Oak recognized both Gary and Bruno entering the lab and said, “Bruno, i didn’t know you were coming, since you’re here, can you help me by picking their starters we’ve selected before while i tell them the basics.”

“Aye aye sir, consider it done.” Said Bruno while he quickly said hi to both Red and Leaf and went to a room behind the giant machine they were in front of, gramps had once to him it was this machine that allowed him to transfer the pokemons above his sponsored trainers limit carry even without said trainer being in a pokemon center.

The place behind the machine was a pokeball labyrinth, there were so many of them it felt like there was no end to the corridors, most of the pokemon were in the ranch they owned and only returned to the pokeballs if the trainers that Oak sponsored called him beforehand and asked him to deliver said pokemon through the trade system.

Bruno quickly went to a table that already had the pokeballs marked as the starters inside metallic boxes while saying hi to some assistants he passed by, he carefully picked up three of the four he saw and brought them to the room the others were in.

“…and now you will have a pick of your starter pokemon that will walk with you during your journey as a whole.” Said Professor Oak when he saw Bruno had brought the pokeballs in.

Bruno expertly picked each pokeball and throwed them up to the air and three red flashes appeared in the room.

“Squirtle!”

“Char…”

“Bulba?”

They could immediately see the three pokemon, the famous three starters of kanto. Squirtle was making a pose to show his muscles, charmander was holding his tail flame while being a little scared at everyone around him and bulbasaur apparently had just woken up from a nap.

“Oh my god! This bulbasaur is so cute, come here cutie.” Said leaf while she kneeled and picked up the almost sleeping bulbasaur.

“Bulbasaur?” He tilted his head to the side.

“Kyaaa! It’s definitely this one, i won’t change it with anything else!” Said Leaf.

Gary glanced at Bruno before looking towards the squirtle and…. started posing back. Both of them started making poses to each other to see who had more defined muscles, ‘This is honestly really funny.’ Thought Bruno while trying to hold back a laugh.

While this was going on, Red was focused on looking directly at charmander who got even more sad when it saw it was the last one, Red got on his knees and extended his hands towards the charmander who got surprised that he was actually being choosen. Red nodded once and waved his hands once more towards the charmander, the pokemon got closer and got something it never imagined receiving, pats on his head.

“Char! Charmander!” The charmander started crying and immediately went in for a hug with Red who kept a firm grip on the pokemon.

Oak looked at this while smiling, “It’s good to see everyone was able to get a good companion and since i have already given all of you the pokedexes, you’re free to go. Go catch’em all and become the very best there ever was!”

Red gave a serious look at Bruno and nodded once before going out of the lab with charmander walking with a bright smile by his side.

Leaf also got her pokeball and recalled her bulbasaur before looking at Bruno and saying, “Say Bruno, do you have anyone to travel together with? I was thinking we could go together for a while.” Said Leaf while looking towards the ground and making a circling repetitive motion with her feet.

Bruno smiled before saying, “No problem, i don’t have someone to travel together too, it will probably be a good idea.” Which earned a big smile from Leaf and a confused look from Gary.

“What about me big bro?” Said Gary while trying to understand what he just said.

Bruno gave gramps a short glance before looking directly in his brother’s eyes and saying, “Gary, you have been too much dependent on me for the last years, i’ve already talked with gramps and we figured you need some time away from me so you can grow up. Please don’t feel like i’m chasing you out of my life, i just want you to have some autonomy without always needing me to be with you to be sure of what to do.” He said while getting closer to the already crying Gary and giving him a hug.

“Did you hear what i said?” he felt a soft nod from Gary who was hugging him back, “Don’t worry that much about it, you’re an intelligent guy, you’ll be safe out there and i’m always a call away, right?” He said and got another nod from his brother who seemed to calm down a little more.

“Who’s gonna cook me breakfast from now on?” Said Gary while looking like his life had ended.

Leaf got closer to Bruno and asked, “Is your food that good? I’m hoping for some good stuff since that’s his first question towards his future.”

“I’m pretty good at it.” Bruno said before he heard a voice from behind him.

“It’s actually crazy how good he is at cooking. How are y’all doing, i just came back from Mount Moon and you’re all leaving, i feel like my family doesn’t love me anymore.” Said Daisy while puffing her cheeks a little but still gave both her brothers a hug.

Gary looked dejected at her and said, “Big sister, big brother is abandoning me.”

“Come on Gary, do you think Bruno will be by your side forever? It’s honestly a good thing that they’ve decided for you to go on your own.” Bruno believed he saw Gary’s ghost going out of his body after Daisy said that to him.

Oak quickly came and gave Daisy a soft hug, “It’s good to see you back safe and sound, how were things in Mount Moon.”

“Well, i saw some strange things but we can talk about it later, let’s send everyone to their destinies first.” She said while smiling and getting a nod from Oak.

Everyone understood they wanted privacy to talk about it, so Gary quicly recalled the squirtle and put it in the second spot of his pokeball belt.

When the three of them were going out, they saw a boy their age coming running up the hill.

Bruno squinted his eyes and said, “Is that Ash?”

He then got nods from both Gary and Leaf and the three of them sighed together.

After a minute Ash appeared in front of the lab and saw the three of them together standing by the side of the entrance to the lab, he was still wearing his pajamas before he said, “Am i on time?”

Bruno then felt that gary was actually angry at Ash, he came closer to him and said, “Now, what can i see here? The grand loser Ash, eh, you will need to get lucky if there even will be a pokemon for you inside there since you came so late. If you ever are able to get out with a pokemon, i’ll already be miles ahead of you, bye bye loser and see you later big bro and Leaf.” Said Gary while he ran towards the north of the city where the forest that divided Pallet to Viridian existed.

Ash visibly looked dejected when he heard what Gary said, but Bruno quickly came closer to him and touched his shoulder, “Don’t worry about what my brother said, he’s just a little out of himself with too much stuff going on his head. You can go inside and talk to the professor about your pokemon, i’m sure you’ll find a good partner.”

Ash visibly got happier before storming inside the lab and shouting inside trying to find where Professor Oak was.

Bruno chuckled a little at the scene and felt a pull on his shirt, he looked to the side and saw it was Leaf pulling him towards the north, “Let’s go, i don’t want to lose to Gary or Red!”

Bruno smiled while they started walking towards the north, “Aye aye, let’s go see more of this world!”
