Caleb had just begun to finish plowing and planting seeds in the last area of normal crops and was deciding on the first new plant he'd make. It had to be relatively small in width but height wasn't an issue as long as it didn't block the sun from the surrounding areas. He also began to decide on things it could do for entertainment purposes.
Starting with something small he began by imagining a seed the size of a grape that could lay dormant for decades. He then made a dark yellow shell around it that would protect it from small amounts of force. A small hole at the bottom was left for water to enter and let the seed know it was able to grow. Once the roots began to leave the hole the inside would swell while the shell would begin to soften.
It would eventually look like a balloon and once the inside had absorbed enough water the shell would rise up from the roots and begin to push out above the ground. The shell would then expand out like an umbrella and underneath it would carry multiple small drooping branches. These branches would begin to wrap around surrounding plant life for nutrients in the wild, but in the field they would just droop, looking like thin threads with water droplets dotting the sides of it. Once the plant had finished growing the threads would detach from the surroundings and begin to grow their own seeds.
Caleb knew that eventually, the land he stood upon would begin to let wildlife return to the surface and he needed ways to control their population lest they begin to destroy too much of his forest. Letting species evolve and create communities as humans once did would be acceptable, but too much destruction would require retaliation. Retaliation that this new plant could enforce.
It would grow on the outskirts of settlements with too much pollution or if too many plants had been destroyed in a short amount of time. Animals and intelligent gatherers would see the plant as a source of nutrition. It would be a sign for intelligent life that a cull would soon occur if things weren't rectified.
If things continue in an unfavorable direction for Caleb, the plant would begin to release the seeds en-masse and target the food supply that the community relies on. Whether it be plants or meat, they would be drained and left to rot. Water sources would be dried as hundreds of plants would line the stream or well they relied on. Caleb would move them into reservoirs and lakes to drain them if needed.
Creating a plant that could convert salt water to fresh water would take but a few moments to create. To go against him would be going against the planet.

Caleb named his new plant, "Nevebo." It would be harmless normally and would be a surefire way of control.

The amount of time I've had to wait to do this again is in the decades or even centuries. I can't wait to finally do this! Greta was coming out with everything now and I watched excitedly as she started laying things out.
First a metal pole with a loop of metal attached to it, then a brightly colored and segmented rope, and a counter with a remote foot pedal. I'm so EXCITED! I've wanted to beat my record for a long time now, but nobody ever wants to help me and the people who aren't my friends always stay away from me. It's not fun to force someone to help you so now that Greta is willing to help again I'm just so eager to start!
----------------------------------------
Greta had just finished gently laying the items on the ground and began to walk to the far wall of the room. She patted the floor with her foot along the wall until a dull thud sounded out. She then leaned and reached down to lift part of the floor, and set it aside. Inside the hole there was a circle opening in the foundation where you could put something in.
She got back up and grabbed the pole, then slotted it inside of the ground. Next, she set the counter up on a stool so it was easier to view and had the foot pedal in a divot on the floor. "So that was supposed to be there? I always assumed you stomped on the floor so hard one day that the wood compressed." said the thin, pale man. "Well," Greta began, "now you know it was a design for this. That's how often we used to do this, but one day there was an issue and we couldn't continue playing."
"Oh, I know what happened!" He said while jumping up and down while raising his hand. "Let me tell them! Please please please let me tell them what happened!" With a nod from Greta, He began to tell them a short story. "One day we were doing it like usual and some rude guy-" "My subordinate." Greta cut in. "Yeah yeah, whatever he was, he cut in during my game and I didn't like it so I destroyed him!" He finished.
The guests looked at Him with horror and looked at Greta only to see her sadly nodding. "Yeah, so that's why you guys shouldn't interrupt what we're going to be doing. And it's going to be a long while too. The last time we did this it took weeks." Greta told them. "That's why I told you to clear your schedules just in-case before coming over here."
With that, she attached the rope to the loop and stood near the foot pedal. She then took a deep breath, blushed a bit, and then shouted out; "WELCOME LADIES AND GENTLEMEN TO THE 6,385TH GAME OF JUMP ROPE. TODAY WE ONCE AGAIN HAVE OUR ONE AND ONLY JUMP ROPER TRYING TO BEAT HIS RECORD OF 34,918,384,298" Looks of defeat and despair littered the faces of the guests.
"WOO HOO, LET'S GET THIS PARTY STARTED!!!" He said with joy while positioning himself in the middle of the pole and Greta. Greta began by windmilling her arm and He jumped. Greta tapped the pedal with her foot and He shouted, "ONE!!!"
