Chapter 19: Zombie City
Zombie City
The giant tentacle like root smashed towards the exploration team before they could get their bearing, their respective forces already warned them that they should be careful in this exploration because only rank 5 and below were able to enter safely.
This meant two possibilities, high ranking awakened fell in this ruin leaving it severely corrupted by the abyss or there was a trap there. Their mission was to bring the general layout of the city and not to spend too much time exploring.
Entering the book world seemed to have scattered all their plans.
The root smashed the building, the building did not even shake as if the entire force of the strike was absorbed.
The lady with the concealment skill immediately took action, the entire building was reflected in her eyes with a whirlpool forming at the edges. She wanted to pull the building out of the ruin perception. After facing the attack she chose the most safest action to take bacause she felt like everything in the dead city has come alive.
The expressions of the zombies became warped, some condensed dark swords, spears and other weapons and cleaved the building interrupting the attempt to conceal.
Lucky who could not hide his shock at the turn of events immediately took action, apart from the skills they were given, he had learnt a rune combination for a new skill from a ruin he explored, teleporting as a rank 5 can cover a large distance but in a restricted place like this it becomes more difficult.
The mutated skill he learnt was called displacement, he could teleport anything within a range around him to another place provide he had placed a mark beforehand.
This skill had an advantage compared to lucky star, it is difficult to interrupt or intercept it.
Lucky wanted to bring his temporary teammates with him because his intuition was not giving him any signs of danger despite the obvious signs of danger they were facing, leaving alone was a sure way to death.
His eyes and sea of consciousness deepened, skills like this were difficult to execute so he needed to focus. He attempted sensing the spatial mark at the entrance but he realised that at some point in time, the mark disappeared.
He nearly broke his focus, it was impossible for him not to be aware of his mark dissipating silently, his mind became clear immediately. Only the abyss could corrode everything around it, they knew this city was influenced by the abyss but not to the extent of not being able to use their skills.

The leader of the team who wielded the rank 4 weapon spirit sun sword suddenly raised the sword, he could see that the building was at the limit of absorbing the force of the strikes hitting it.
The corner of his eye caught the book silently vanishing, the book seemed to have merged with the space of the room.
Above the building, a bird with pus running through it body landed on the rooftop. The beak of this bird would make one feel despair, it was unusually sharp and paired with the appearance of the bird, it gave one the illusion of death just by a state.
The sun path awakened leader did not wait for the bird to take action, he gathered energy in the sword and cleaved it upward.
Bright and pure light lir everything up, the bird that had a menacing appearance seemed to have taken a heavy blow.
Half of its body was lacerated with the other melting under the force of the purifying flame.
Lucky buffed up the team’s luck and attempted the displacement with the closest mark that surfaced in his consciousness.
The entire team vanished, they appeared at a building out of reach of the tentacles but filled with zombies, they sighed in relief.
Gunvor took action when he saw the large number of zombies. A phantom of wings appeared in his back, he rose up slowly flapping his wings: metal spirit wings.
Phantom of darts filled the sky, the zombies exploded in large numbers.
They did not wait to see any changes in the city, they immediately used the shortest action possible to attempt arriving at the entrance.
The building were they disappeared from became indistinct, the book that merged with the building began to extricate itself slowly.
The bird at the top that the leader killed disappeared like it was an illusion, the zombies around did continued wandering around as of time was reversed to when the team first came in.
At the tallest building in this dead city, the phantom of a leaf like seed became more real. Patterns and symbols of a moon filled with dark fog were engraved on it.
The leaf reflected the actions like watching an action movie.
The shadow skill team member opened a shadow tunnel waving to the team, trying to pass through the void and stars seemed to have been suppressed in this place, the skill wielder could feel that the restriction on shadow tunnel was more relaxed.
Gunvor looked at the distant statue at the centre of the city before entering the tunnel, at a time like this, they could only trust their teammates abilities.
The team appeared at the foot of stone wall, they subconsciously frowned as this was not the entrance. The leader of the team raised the sun sword and cleaved the wall.
The wall in front of them crumbled to their relief, everything they had experienced so far only meant one thing, this place was extremely dangerous, they as rank 5 had no chance of surviving at all.
Beyond the wall, a small dead human like figure stood in a praying posture seeking penance in an unknown direction, beneath his feet was an image depicting a human with crystals all over his body resisting a giant snake.
The face of the human was illusory but they could feel the extraordinary power the individual wielded.
Despite feeling the need to investigate what made him come here, the dead human suddenly opened his eyes, freezing his thoughts.
