Chapter 2: Illuminated

The lights of the city almost seemed to dance as they shimmered in the dusk sky. Tai's legs dangled over the edge of the building's roof, the city lights reflected in his eyes as air cars whizzed by below him. "Country boy can't get enough of that view huh?" Kashurra teased before the roof door clanked shut behind her. "You've been up here a while. You okay?" Tai didn't look at her he just continued to gaze at the city skyline. "How long do you think it would take to see everything the world had too offer?" Kash was caught off guard by the suddenness of that question. "Woah there buddy, where'd that come from?" Tai stood up and looked Kash in her eyes. "The past few months I've been in three different territories and not once did I stop to take in the sights. I've missed so much in my life and I didn't even know to look. Now, I want to see it all." Kash chuckled nervously. "Well good luck with all that, but I only came up here to say bye. After all the craziness this past DAY I think I need to take my ass home. So, bye." Without waiting for a response she turned around and headed back towards the door. "You need a lift?" Tai asked. "Duh, you think I'm gonna walk back to Sagev? I'm just going to ask Ysmay if she can get me a ride home." Tai smiled. "I'll take you." Kash rolled her eyes. "Do you even know how to drive an airship?" "Nope. But I don't need one." Tai waved his hand and the air beside Kash collapsed into funnel shaped hole large enough for an air car to pass through. Kash stepped slowly away from it. "What is that?" Tai walked up to it and put his hand through. "It's a door." He answered. "To where?" Kash asked beginning to relax but still unsure about what she was looking at. "Anywhere you want." Tai replied holding out his hand. Kash didn't take it. "How?" Tai retracted his hand. "Ever since Aour I've felt...liberated. I understand myself, I understand what I can do. I can feel everything, it's all pulling at each other but for once it isn't overwhelming." "What are you?" True sincerity filled her voice for the first time since they met. Tai smiled and held out his hand again. "Let's find out." This time Kash took it and they both disappeared into the door.

Outside a small cafe a few blocks from the laboratory Oya and Bonrue sat. "No, I can't say I've ever met this Mul but I do recall Cassius speaking about a boy by that name before." Oya's eyes lit up. "Really? So you think he would know something?" Bonrue sipped his drink before answering. "Most likely. I've already sent him a message I'm just waiting to hear back from him." It was then that two female students approached their table. "Professor Ortega?" The first girl called out. "Did you have a chance to grade our term papers yet?" "My apologies Kealy I have been busy the last few days, but I will get to them soon." Bonrue replied noticing the other girl staring at Oya. "Of course please forgive me. Kealy, Tula this is Oya a friend of mine." "Oh my gosh I just love your hair." Tula complimented. Kealy joined in. "You have such an exotic look to you, are you Terrabeian?" "My dad has a cabin in Terrabe and he takes us every new bloom." Tula added. "I'm from Xibalba." Oya answered flatly, clearly annoyed. The girls got quiet. "Oh...um well we gotta go." Then the two of them walked off quickly. "I apologize." Bonrue said. "Don't, Humans are humans. At least they didn't try to kill me which is a nice change of pace." Bonrue awkwardly took another sip from his glass as his watch began to beep. He pressed a button and a hologram of Cassius's face projected from the watch. "Hey Rue I got your message and got in touch with Lukohé and he knows Mul but the last he saw him was back when they took out Bahn. He was just a kid, the guy's gotta be pushing fifty now. But as far as what happened to him he reckons the only person who'd know anything is Xtabay." Oya frowned. "Thank you Cassius." Bonrue ended the transmission. "So.." he asked, "do you need a ride?" Oya shook her head. "I've been there before plus I finally understand how Thanata does it." "Does what?" Bonrue asked. Oya smiled and vanished. Reappearing inside the dining hall in Xtabay's palace where she and Nanette were enjoying dinner. Nanette let out a yelp at Oya's appearance. Xtabay quickly stood out of her chair. "You." Xtabay sneered. "Where's Mul? " Oya demanded. "Dead." Xtabay replied. "Liar." Accused Oya. "Killed him myself." Xtabay boasted. Oya's clenched fist began to generate electricity. "Thanata would have told me if she collected him." Xtabay's eyes shifted. "Then you can ask the little bitch when she comes to get you!"
