Chap 46 - King Protocol

Candace, her presence well-received. added, “Supatra and Jason have played a crucial role in bringing Lángrén here.”

Supatra, with a curt nod, addressed Antonio, “We did as you commanded, King.”

Jason, flashing a roguish smile, chimed in, “Yeah, it was a team effort. Plus, Supatra and I had some quality bonding time, if you catch my drift.”

Supatra shot him a withering glance. “You’re insufferable.”

Jason, undeterred, turned to Antonio, “But in all seriousness, we got her here.”

Antonio acknowledged their efforts with a nod, his eyes shifting to Lángrén. “Lángrén, there was a promise. Long ago. Now is the time.”

Everyone’s eyes filled with confusion. Lángrén hesitated before speaking, her words measured. “You allowed me to leave the pack because I chose a different path. Do you need me to call her back? She may not have done as you wished Antonio, but I cannot ignore the centuries of friendship we share.”

Antonio, his expression pained, responded, “I value that friendship, Lángrén. Yes. The answer is, yes. Make the call. Something itches in my fur that says she was successful.”

Marisol, feeling like an outsider, kept to the shadows. Nia approached Lángrén with a familiarity.

“Lángrén,” Nia said with a smile, “It’s been so long. I remember you from when I was a child.”

Lángrén’s eyes blinked as she looked at Nia. “You’ve grown into a remarkable woman, Nia.”

Nia, with reverence, asked, “Why is my uncle doing this? I know you tried, Uncle, but I need to hear it from someone else.”

Lángrén sighed. “We cannot stand idly by while humanity destroys the world. We need to work together and find a way to coexist.”

Nia nodded, absorbing Lángrén’s words. Antonio spoke up, “Lángrén is right. The time for unity may come, but now is not that time. We need to handle the immediate threat and then find a way forward.”

Marisol observed the dynamics at play. The room was a canvas of conflicting emotions and allegiances, each individual carrying a burden of their own.

As the conversation continued, Supatra exchanged glances with Jason. His style reflected a deeper sentiment, a silent acknowledgment of their connection. Jason listened to Supatra, but his eyes held genuine affection.

Marisol’s eyes narrowed. “¿Por qué me usaste? (Why did you use me?)” she said to Antonio, a slight venom in her tone.

Antonio silenced her with a raised hand, his gaze sweeping over them. His dark eyes, usually as warm as forest soil, flickered with something deeper – anger perhaps, for what he needs to do, or the weight of the death he unleased he bore alone.

“Has it been so long you have forgotten?” he rumbled, his voice rough as gravel. His eyes filled with unquestionable authority, tempered by tungsten wrapped by the gossamer strings of a king’s soul. His question was an earthquake to all in the room.

A wave of shame washed over them. Their King brought them out of the shadows into the light of the world. Yet, they, his pack, had begun to doubt, even questioning him. His face, etched with the weariness of ages, hardened.

“Kneel,” he commanded, not with words, but with a look that cut deeper than any forged blade.

And they knelt, every werewolf, head bowed, not only in obedience, but also in an outpouring of repressed gratitude, loyalty, and awe. Antonio, their King, leading them from the abyss, a warrior-god among men. Then a rustle of clothes, Candace, wearing a twilight-hued velvet blouse and freshly washed face, moved to kneel. But he caught her with a rough yet gentle hand.

“Here, at the end of all things, my love,” he said, his voice softer now, still holding the echoes of battles won and demons slain, “we stand together.”

Candace took his hand, her touch the only warmth in the blood-chilled air. Their gazes met, a silent communion that spoke of shared burdens and enduring love, a fortress built against the encroaching darkness.

The gathered wolves watched, heads bowed, a tableau of devotion etched against the dying light. For in that moment, they witnessed not only their King and Queen, but also the embodiment of loyalty, courage, and love – the things that even demons could not conquer. As long as they stood, hope remained, a flickering ember in the face of oblivion.

“Marisol,” he said with gentle firmness.

She stood and beat her heart twice with a fist. Her eyes worried at the audacity she felt for speaking to her King in such a manner. “Vivo para servir. (I live to serve.)”

He locked his gaze on her, “Who do you serve?”

Confused by the question, her voice trembled. “¿El paquete? (The pack?)”

“No. You serve life. You were given the ability to create a life by your womb and wolf nature. You have doubled in that fire to be Varkazana. Using both, you sired your cubs. ” Antonio caught a look with Candace, then turned his attention back to Marisol. “In the sacred dance, you, and only females who are mothers, embody the divine artistry to bring forth life, mirroring the Creator of the Universe’s tender touch in every breath and heartbeat. Your essence intertwines with the cosmic rhythm, a vessel of cosmic energy, graced with the ability to nurture and weave the tapestry of love into eternity.”

His eyes looked past her soul, “You live to serve. Not me. You serve your cubs. The future. The divine. You live to serve life.”

Antonio laid his hand on her shoulder, “In serving life, we chose you to be a representative of the Seven. You have experience with the migrant gauntlet of freedom. Do you still wish to stand with us?” He stared like a wolf at a spit-cooked rabbit.

Without hesitation, she replied, “Es un honor. Simplemente no quiero que lastimen a mis hijos. (It’s my honor. I just don’t want my children hurt.)”

Candace glided towards Antonio with an ethereal elegance, her every step a mesmerizing dance. Alongside him as if whispering an incantation in the language of creation itself. “That’s why we’re here. For the family.”

Each stood, one by one. Jason. Nia. Supatra. Lángrén. Each beat their heart twice as they held their chins high.

Antonio began passionately, “We revealed ourselves to fight the army of men and thunder. They did not hear the war drums beating. It was for compassion that our family had to rise, to fight for those who could not defend themselves.”

Marisol, curiously interjected, “¿A que costo? (At what cost?)”

Antonio turned to face her, his resolve unwavering, “Blood, sweat, and tears. The blood had to be spent on discipline. The air grew too hot, the seas rose too quickly, the food grew scarce, and tempers grew shorter. It took only a moment, and we would have lost our last chance to restore the balance. We were the swords that pointed in all directions.”

“Mi Rey. ¿Por qué yo? (My King. Why me?)” Marisol was eager to understand, for answers.

Antonio, looking at Nia, explained, “As with her mother, fate called us to sacrifice for the pack. You children follows Lángrén. At some point, her mother left. Lángrén was her path back to the pack.”

Nia’s simmering anger erupted as she challenged Lángrén, “You knew? You fucking knew? All these motherfucking years, and you KNEW?”

Antonio’s authoritative woof silenced Nia. It was not a request from her uncle. It was a direct command from her king. “You forget your place, Nia.”

She kneeled, vibrating at controlling her rage and confusion. Through gritted teeth, she asked, “How may I serve?”

Antonio stepped forward. “We had held the line. We fought the voices that tempted us to do it when we lived in the dark. We had pushed the festering fog back into the swamps of hell. We fought on battlefields for no glory. We were field beasts called to serve. We would dance with ghosts and demons.”

The group surrounded Antonio. “How will you live?”

Each knelt again, alongside Candace. Her smile shone with pride as she declared, “I live to serve.”

Marisol knelt without hesitation, expressing her commitment, “Vivo para servir. (I live to serve)”

Lángrén stood, hesitant and skeptical, “You will bear the weight of this, not me.”

Antonio’s silence spoke volumes, and Lángrén finally conceded, kneeling alongside the others, “I live to serve.”

Antonio looked around, a sense of unity and purpose radiating from the group. With a nod, he declared, “Let’s do this.” United and resolute, the pack prepared to face the human world. As if by blood and fur through a mycelium network, the pack felt rejuvenated.
