Chap 20 - World and War

As the full extent of the catastrophe unfolded, people sought refuge where they could, cowering in dark corners and behind locked doors. The sound of doors being bolted shut echoed like desperate prayers, but the relentless tide of fur and fang could not be stopped.

Black clouds of inhuman beasts raced with unnatural speed across the land, the underworld shadow flipping the mirror over the city. Their monstrous forms, a chaotic amalgamation of fur and fang, moved with a primal purpose that left destruction in their wake. Pinwheels of flame and fury ignited the air as buildings were set ablaze, the acrid scent of burning structures adding to the atmosphere of chaos.

However, even in the face of unimaginable horror, human resilience began to emerge. The unyielding spirit of survival propelled some to join forces, fighting back against the monstrous invaders. They gathered whatever makeshift weapons they could find and stood side by side, determined to protect what was left of their homes. The once clear sky now glowed with an ominous red hue, a manifestation of the city’s descent into hell.

The sight was surreal and haunting: humans clashed with werewolves in a dance of death and survival. Bright flashes of hope flickered amid the darkness, but the werewolf swarm was too overwhelming. The savage outpouring of growls, snarls, barks, and thundering paws left badly bloodied bodies sprawled everywhere. Some were violated by claws. Teeth butchered others.

Just when all seemed lost, a distant horn resounded through the city, carrying a glimmer of hope on its echoing notes. Reinforcements, summoned by the city’s desperate distress calls, were racing to their aid. As first responders and national guards arrived on the scene, the tide stood at a stalemate. The werewolves, sensing a formidable new force, momentarily regrouped. The darkest hours had only begun.

A tempest of helicopters flew in sheer numbers that would make Vietnam and Normandy look small, rumbled through the sky in battle formation. From dozens of bases, helipads were left empty as all martial forces responded.

Their rotors churned the air as they formed an aerial shield. Soldiers and tanks below. The atmosphere was electrified with fear and suffocating terror, as the worst of hell prepared to erupt.

A soldier staggered through the depths of a park, his blood dripping a fiery trail against the canvas of blinding snow. His footprints are drenched in blood. His hands twitched from the weight of what was to come. Howling wolves scaled towering trees, their talon-like fingers grasping at dripping clumps of snow that melted like tears on their fur.

The clamor of lead helicopters filled the sky above as they descended upon their prey. Pilots began to think something was wrong. Well… fuck, it was all wrong.

A lone soldier looked behind him, along the bloody trail, his eyes searching for something. He saw nothing. He turned to peer ahead, along with the snow’s thin, jagged crust that with every step made a crunch. He looked to his left and right, fellow soldiers marching along. Their noses were cherry red from the biting cold, teeth chattering, and feet hurting through their frozen boots. All this was trivial compared to what he spotted ahead, up in the trees. Two massive werewolves, blending within the branches. The only hint they were there was their hot breath off-gassing into the iceberg air.

A thunderous roar: burst from a werewolf’s throat as it LEAPT onto the broadside of a whirlybird. Ferocious growls and snarls echoed as the wolves lunged at their prey. The aggressive vocalizations, accompanied by bared teeth, added to the display of dominance and intensity of their attacks. Alarms ignited to life as distress calls blended into a symphony. Cries of “holy shit!” and “they’re everywhere!” were heard beneath the den of attacking beasts. A soldier blubbered out for his mom. Another screamed, “get the fuck back!”

A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

Air superiority crumbled swiftly as the werewolf swarm moved with relentless determination, overwhelming any attempt at resistance. Pilots met their demise by flying too low. Communication scrambled as the airwaves filled with dying, desperate, and panicking. Metal technology has become the infernos for bodies strewn inside eternal tombs.

A female soldier was driving until a werewolf landed on the hood and plunged its clawed hand through the windshield, like a hydraulic piston into melted butter, separating her head from her neck. Her helmet stayed on her lolling head by the chinstrap.

Muzzle flashes highlighted bullets soaring into the werewolves’ bodies. The only effect was to piss off the man-beasts even more. Helicopters burst like fireworks and crashed, burning to the ground. Some had landed on top of the military below, causing further chaos and destruction.

The lone soldier rose weakly to his knees. The urge to move anywhere was overpowering. Then the branch under his feet snapped. Something massive, heavy, and camouflaged in the falling snowdrift from the tree canopy rose behind him. He craned his neck to see the deep throat of a beast engulfing his face, swallowing his face.

The werewolf swarm invasion was swift and destructive. Black clouds of inhuman beasts raced across the land, creating an ominous eclipse-like effect. Pinwheels of flame and fury igniting the air. Air superiority ended swiftly as the creatures swarmed like a billion cicadas and locusts combined in a gluttonous hunger. Pilots were killed long before they reached their planes. Dying on tarmacs, taxiways and airfield aprons. Those who sought refuge in their homes were not spared, the invading horde showing no mercy.

The lucky few perished in their homes.

The plague of werewolves descended deeper. the monstrosities’ movement causing human disarray.

The werewolves, following an uncanny tactical and strategic pattern, plunged deeper into the city. The streets became a battleground where every human and vehicle in their path became prey. A group cowering inside a gas station faced an onslaught as plate glass windows shattered over them, adding injury to the psychological trauma. A bus overturned, a car crumpled like paper, and houses collapsed under the relentless assault. Utility poles swayed dangerously, wires snapping and sparking as the werewolves tore through the infrastructure. Skyscrapers and tall buildings became harbingers of death as bodies rained down, some thrown by the werewolves, others choosing self-termination to escape the impending horror.

Thousands upon thousands of panicked individuals fled through the streets, desperation etched on their faces. There was an unmistakable realization – the odds were insurmountable, defeat inevitable. The werewolves were executing a strategy of complete saturation, aiming to take over the entire city and eventually the world. A nightmare that took the same number of days to unfold as it took to create it.

Sirens wailed in full-throated despair, screaming warnings that blended with the frantic sounds of chaos. Cars careened toward curbs, colliding with parked vehicles, then sped away against traffic. Mass confusion flooded the streets, as the norm for the day became a surreal dance of abandonment and disorder. In this horrifying theater of survival, humanity faced a brutal awakening to the reality that, in the face of the supernatural, their once mighty civilization crumbled like a house of cards.

The werewolf swarm invasion struck with a ferocity that shattered the illusion of human dominance. A once-organized metropolis now reduced to a frenzied and desperate survival game. The air was thick with the acrid scent of burning debris, the agonized wails of those caught in the crossfire, and the metallic tang of fear. Desperation manifested in erratic human behavior as people veered between fight and flight, their once-coordinated urban existence devolving into a primal struggle for survival. Buildings, once symbols of human achievement, have now crumbled like sandcastles.

Howls echoed through the disintegrating remnants of human accomplishments.
