Rest, Roles and Research (3)

Though Jien hadn't brought this topic up with the others he knew that they wouldn't fight his decision. After all this was something that would benefit the flexibility of their unit and give them a great amount of experience in varying fields. His only concern, if he could consider it, one was that they seemed to be afraid of the girl sitting in front of him. Though he couldn't blame them considering how utterly she tore them apart in battle and her animosity in the first meeting. They would need to get over their fear, and quickly at that. Working together in multiple drills as well as bonding over daily life was what he felt would be best, after all it was how his original team got to know each other.

One after another each of the other members filed out of their rooms, some more energetic like Rosalind and Robyn. Others seemed to still be drowsy or in a certain case just moody. Lastly those that were just as neutral as always joined the table after the others had found seats. Everyone had serious expressions on their faces, facing toward the boy and girl at the head of the table, one cool and measured, the other with a heated fire in her eyes.

Jien was the one to tell them what the plan was. Much as he had expected, nobody argued or fought against the decision. While there was still a slight undercurrent of apprehension over working with the wild girl let alone having her as the leader of a group of them. They trusted Jien's judgement based on the same battle that instilled fear of the girl staring them down.

After he finished explaining their plan of action, he clapped his hands together to make sure he had their attention from their internal thoughts. "I know it is a lot to take in but let's mull it over as we eat." he stated before standing. His eyes seemed to be filled with the shadow of a golden constellation for a moment before he blinked, causing it to vanish. "There is a mess hall three blocks away from us, quite convenient. There is also a library five away. I suggest we visit both as we will need to work to make sure everyone is up to speed before the end of this week, or as close as we can get."

Just like this their course of action was decided and they made their way after Jien, exiting the cooled building and out into the heat of the midday sun beating down on them. He moved like he had lived here all his life, leading them down the roads with confidence that confused onlookers. Soon they arrived at a large building with vast open structure held by simple stone pillars. It appeared to have several floors, but each was the same, long rough wood tables with long wooden benches. At the end of each of these vast rooms that made the Losler ballroom look like it was nothing but a broom closet, were large kitchens behind massive counters that students were lining up at.

Jien and the others took their place in a slightly shorter line and began their wait. Despite what they thought they found that the actual wait time was rather low, soon standing in front of the large counter within about ten minutes. A large man in the uniform, looking much like Rosalind's mentor Johnathan in stature looked down on Jien with sharp eyes but a warm smile. "What can I get for you?" he asked with a deep voice that seemed to rattle their very bones.

Jien gave a light smile and answered simply "Ten A set." The others didn't even know what the options were or what this one contained but Jien had decided for them all. This frustrated some of them and floored the rest. He may be their leader, but they at least expected to choose their own food, though there were no menus to be seen anywhere. To their shock the sharp look the man was giving them seemed to soften several degrees, his smile growing more genuine. "Glad to not have to give another lecture." his voice rumbled before he turned and shouted behind him "Ten A's!"

It wasn't long before ten trays piled high with a mixture of meat vegetables and rice were dumped on the counter. The serving sizes looked like they could serve three full grown men apiece, something everyone but Jien failed to wrap their heads around as they took their trays to find seats. Soon they were sitting in an empty section of a table looking at Jien with questioning looks as he quickly started to dig in while it was all hot.

It was several long minutes before he answered their unspoken questions. "The only thing you should order is the A set. It will differ by the day, but it will be the only one that you can get without merits, and it is the only one that will truly fill you after they start really training us." After he finished speaking, he continued eating. The A set was one created to help build up their bodies, especially for those that couldn't eat as richly as others. The military needed strong soldiers who could maintain over long campaigns and the Empire paid close attention to what was needed to create such individuals, physically, mentally, emotionally and to an extent spiritually in terms of helping refine control of spells given by the gods without trying to take the spells for themselves.
