Let's take the time to look at some of the many things that could lead to the end of the world our mc is from. Yes, I said zombies which I haven't gotten around to writing about yet but what kind of zombies are possible? We could also take a look at possible reasons for the outbreak other than vague ideas. This is going to be a theory-crafting chapter so it's even possible some of this may be in the story. I also want to go ahead and say go leave comments of ideas and if I like what I see a real side story may show up or it may even appear in the main story.
I honestly haven't put much thought into what kind of zombies I want in the story, but if I'm being honest with my self I have always loved the tried and true slow-moving mob zombies. The problem with slow-moving zombies though is how could they manage to spread fast enough to pose an actual threat. The answer to that question has to be a disease/virus/infection/whatever your zombies are based off being airborne this, however, creates the problem of survival rates and immunity. If it's airborne how vast is the spread, how fast is conversion rate of human to zombie or animal if you choose to go that route.
And finally for the last of the bigger questions in this category travel speed of the airborne based let's just say virus for this. These are just three of the major factors you have to take into account for a semi-realistic spread of a virus to make slow zombies work. I mean you can take a look at how viruses in the real world have spread but nothing would even come close to having the power a zombie virus would need to be able to make slow zombies work. You could in theory just have them pop up for no apparent reason but I dislike them just going zap and boom you have zombies everywhere.

As for fast zombies you have a whole different set of problems to explore to make them work effectively. Like do you count infected as zombies? I personally think that all things that act and behave like a zombie should be counted as one but that's my opinion. Do scratches spread the infection or just bites? Granted that question could be asked for any kind of zombie but it's a lot more terrifying if all it takes is one little scratch from a zombie that can move as fast if not faster than a human to become infected.
You can also look at how the zombies could evolve, fast zombies don't leave much room for evolution unless you get into the freaky mutations. Whereas slow zombies can become faster and faster to naturally adapt to the loss of pray. It's also a lot easier to imagine slow zombies being naturally suited to ambush people when you think of fast zombies it's a lot harder to picture them being quiet enough to do something similar. Being a person that writes more with feeling and off the top of my head than planning things out it makes it harder for me bring the whole story together.
Which leads me to the fact of why I like to write shorter chapters, it allows me to tie the story together easier. But yeah I just wanted to point out some of what goes on in my head while I think about the story and how I want it to move forward. I do put in a lot of time thinking of the story so while I write what comes to me and feels natural it's not just all made up on the go with no thought put into the work and instead of copy-pasting zombie mutations because spoiler alert we will be seeing some I don't want reused ideas.
So expect some crazy zombies that can do stupid things because why not and hoo-ray for new things. Welp, that does it for this little side project and I hope to see some ideas posted before I post another one of these.
