-.-.-Chapter 5-.-.-
Once I was done with the explanation of my plan for dealing with the Dursleys both my parents had relaxed back in their seats with satisfied looks.
“So we’ll only need to wait for about a month after you’ve left to do this, and after you’ve sent us a letter to confirm things are as you expect them to be?” my dad clarified.
Relaxing back in my seat myself, I nodded, “Yes, both for the plan to work, and as a precaution, because while this might in fact be the world I think it is. It could just as easily be some branch one that has things different than the original. Like one where either of the Potters didn’t die that night and actually lived to raise Harry, if it is then the plan won’t be needed.”
“Right, and what about that Sirus fellow, you said he was innocent, is there some way we could get him free,” my dad asked with a frown.
I shook my head, “No, not right away at any rate. He’ll break out of the prison on his own in the summer before my third year anyway, while it would be nice to get him out before that. All the ways I can think of getting him out right now would involve exposing my knowledge on things to others, and while you two took it well I don’t trust others to do the same. I’m also ninety percent certain that any legal attempt to try and get Sirus out would either get blocked by those in power or get him accidentally killed by one of the prison guards in order to make sure the fact he never got a trial does not come to light.”
“Ugh, politicians, hate those little twits,” my dad grumbled as my mother just smiled and shook her head, that was something that we had both heard regularly in the house, no one liked politicians.
I shook my head in amusement with her before taking note that my system was almost installed, “ninety eight percent, almost done” I commented as I sat forward wanting to see just what system I would get.
“Here’s hoping it’s something good sweetie,” my mum smiled watching me.
“Fingers crossed lad,” my dad said, holding up his hand with his index and middle finger crossed as I watched the screen tick down the last percentages before it changed and my eyes flew wide open as I openly read the words on the screen aloud.
“Ultimate Pokémon Trainer System Installed” I said with awe in my voice.
Both my parents looked confused at the awe in my voice and my Dad was the first one to ask, “What the naffing hell is a Pokémon?”
I blinked several times at him before openly facepalming when I remembered Pokémon wasn’t something that would even be released in the UK until 1999, thus explaining why they didn’t have a clue what I was on about. A fact that rather disappointed me as Pokémon was the first real game I had played in my first life growing up, I may have spent most of my childhood and a good part of my adulthood being addicted to it.
“Okay, this is going to take a while,” I sighed before I began to give them a run down of the Pokémon games and the whole genre of RPG video game series. How Pokémon were magical creatures with powers that could be captured, tamed and trained as pets or used in battles for competition and so on. I might have gone a little too in-depth at points and used various terminologies that left my dad confused, though my mum just rolled her eyes fondly at the sight, knowing how I got at times when talking about things I was passionate about.
Did you know this story is from Royal Road? Read the official version for free and support the author.
“So this system allows you to do what exactly, catch these creatures and train them? And what’s the Ultimate part about?” My dad queried after I finished my explanation.
“Let's find out,” I said before mentally hitting the “next” symbol on the screen as it changed, before reading out what the next screen said.
{Congratulations upon receiving the Ultimate Pokémon Trainer System, this system allows you to obtain Pokémon partners through tokens that you can acquire in certain ways, unlike regular Pokémon the Pokémon from the system are not so limited in power and ability like their real life counterparts, once fully evolved their level limitations will be removed allowing them to reach beyond their species potential, to help you start on your journey as a trainer a beginners package has been left for you in your inventory, please open it at your earliest convenience}
My voice had shifted through various octaves as I read through and comprehended the magnitude of what I was reading and judging by both my parents' faces they did as well. This was massive, even just a single fully evolved Pokémon had strengths and abilities that a regular person could only dream of, limited in the games by a level one hundred cap on their level and other caps on their stats, but the system I had not only were Pokémon real, but their potential was virtually limitless.
“Holy shit” I muttered, with wide eyes. My mum was still so shocked that she didn’t even scold me for my language, and my dad could only nod numbly in agreement.
“Well I think it’s safe to say that you got a good system, a wizard with a future army of magical creatures with untold potential behind him, yeah I don’t think any are going to mess with you,” My dad said after a moment.
I however frowned hearing that before shaking my head, “both yes and no,” I said thinking as I did so.
“Why not?” my mum asked worriedly.
“Because, while it might seem like a brilliant thing to do. I would have no way to explain where they came from without exposing myself, and even if I did somehow explain them off as undiscovered magical creatures, then the ministry would try to take them, and while they might be powerful they can still die to the killing curse just like anyone else” I stated.
My dad frowned, “damn so even though you got a system, and a good one by the sounds of it, this world has magic as a hard counter for it.”
“Pretty much, but it’s not all bad I suppose, if the notice was right, I also have an inventory, which is basically a walking hammer space to store whatever I want, that’s already pretty useful” I mused as I closed the screen and with a thought of ‘Menu’ a new screen appeared showing my options.
“Hmm looks pretty basic as far as systems goes,” I mused aloud as I began to read out each of the listed options and the descriptions listed under them.
{Status}
“The users Status screen, where stat points can be allocated to users stats, gained upon leveling up, and other details are listed”
{Inventory}
“A hammer space storage that can only be accessed by the user, only system items or items which belong to the user can be stored”
I snapped my fingers and scowled when I read that, there went my plan to use my inventory as a way to steal items. Both my parents looked at me oddly when I did that, but come on anyone would do the same if they had access to a hammer space.
{Store}
“The system store where the user may purchase or sell items”
{Dungeons}
“Instant dungeons where the user can go to train themselves or their Pokémon, monsters defeated will have various drops from system currency to rare items”
{Pokémon Home}
“A home for your Pokémon that you are not using or need to rest, can be entered at will at any time, by thinking the mental command “Enter Pokémon Home”, and left by thinking “Leave Pokémon Home”, time inside Pokémon home runs concurrently with the real world and cannot be altered. Any Pokémon currently residing in Pokémon home can be called to hand inside their Pokéball with a thought”
{Options)
“A list of options to allow the user to optimize their system experience”
