chapter 2: Grief.

Kyn slowly woke up. His body ached. He looked around, there were small fires on the ground, in a ten metre diameter. A breeze rolled in, and Kyn realized he was completely naked. He quickly found some leftover rags and wrapped it around his waist, covering himself.

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw what little remained of his wife. Her body was charred, and the front of her head was missing.

"Why?" His legs felt weak, and soon buckled under his weight, making his head slam into the charcoal ground.

He crawled towards his wife's corpse, put her on his lap and started to cry uncontrollably. Nothing held his emotions back, so he just let them cascade. The tears felt like burning oil, but there was little he could do to stop them...

 -----

Kyn had stopped crying after what seemed like an eternity, his eyes were dry and his gaze blurry for but a moment. As he looked around, he could see the flames were gone, and not even embers were alive.

He slowly and carefully moved his wife off his lap and dug a pit with his hands. He put her corpse in the hole and then filled it with dirt, offering a prayer, heedless of the foolishness.

"I..." No words came out. Nothing would bring him solace. Nothing. This was his life now. Eternal suffering, Death Mur- NO.

He paused as small fires appeared on his body, and quickly dissipated. "I will treasure your memory and I hope the father provides you safe passage to the heavens." It was a useless gesture. Noone was there, no matter how much one wanted something to scream his misfortunes at.

P.O.V. change: Kyn and Reivi

I feel so empty.

-I don't want to ruin the mood, but we need to leave.-

What?

-We don't know who sent them after us but we need to hide in the meantime.-

Why?

-Because.-

Shhh, I see something in the distance, 30 metres from here. Seven men. Wielding weapons. The blue jackets mean they're probably patrollers.

How am I seeing so far? I groped in front of my face, hoping to feel a spy glass over my eye. No. I saw every detail on my skin, from the scars of torture, to the minute ridges on my fingertips.

-Your grief enhanced all of your senses to such a degree that you could read a small book from 10 metres way with ease, hit an ant between it's eyes with an arrow or count how many grains of sand are in your palm without looking-

How?

Wait, they are approaching me.

They reached the destruction I caused. "Stay right where you are!" One of the men shouted.

"Did you see any trolls passing by here?" One of the other soldiers said.

"I did, I killed them as well." I felt my skin warm up.

"DEMON!" The leader shouted, and I lost all control of my hands. I bared my fangs at the enemies approaching. I suppose I looked like a blur to the untrained eye, but every moment felt like a long, painful minute. One of the guards attempted to stab me but I quickly grabbed the spear out of his grasp, cutting my hand in the process. I held the spear by the butt and swung the spear sideways cutting the throats of two approaching swordsmen, and in a few minutes, they would be dead.

Two archers shot arrows at me. One hit me in my right shoulder. I used the momentum to turn my torso sideways grabbing the second arrow with my teeth, so I grabbed it with my left hand and threw like a miniature javelin at one of the spearmen. I sidestepped one of the spears coming at me and kicked the fool in the lower jaw, stabbing his mouth from beneath with my toenails killing him. I pounced at the last three of my prey easily landing on top of one and clawing his neck out while the other two guards ran at full speed away from me.

I stood up from the corpse and gazed in amazement at the carnage I had caused. What have I become?
