Chapter 2 - The Wolf Queen, Part 2

# The Wolf Queen (part 2)

"Fuckfuckfuckfuckfuck"

RunRunRunRunRunRun.

While it's common for a player to fight a boss 20 (or even 30) levels above him/her, it's a completely different story if said boss was over 10 times your freakin level.

Even when I tried to shoot her, the arrows just bounced off her as she kept on chasing me.

*Alright, think. I can't hurt her by simply shooting at her. What else can I try? What have I learned so far?*

1) Shots fired at point blank most likely have increased power.

Right!

A point blank shot might be able to hurt her!

I turned around to test my theory.

"GroaW!"

And had to duck just as a giant paw sailed over my head. Ironically, the large size of the Wolf-Queen was actually to my advantage, as it had to crouch awkwardly to reach me.

*A POINT BLANK SHOT AGAINST THAT????!!!"*

Regardless, it was the only hope I have.

I quickly drew my arrow and fired at the leg that just landed next to me.

The arrow landed and stuck to the target.

*It works!*

Immediately following that, the leg I just shot swatted me away.

You have 7% hp left

"Oh, Sugar Honey Iced Tea."

Not only was my hp reduced to shreds, my body armor also had its durability reduced to 0, leaving behind a few ragged strips of leather.

"GroaW!"

I jumped backwards as the Wolf tried to take a bite out of me.

*Alright, first, I have to make it harder for her to attack me.*

After taking a short leap forwards, the Wolf swung her left paw to try to hit me again with the same backhand swat that got me earlier on.

"KOTE-AI_YA!"

(Really, it's just "Kote" (ko-teh) but kendoka's tend mangle their kiai shouts as they get more experienced.) (Also, I knew a friend who shouted his girlfriend's name by accident during a match! "AH-MEN-DA!!!" (Amanda) )

Using my bow I struck the offending paw as hard as I could with my bow while leaping away to my right. It didn't really hurt her, but it cushioned the blow and prevented it from hitting me.

Skill Learned!

Bow Bash:

Using your weapon, bash the enemy to create an opening.

Based on your strength stat, the level of this skill, and the size of the opponent, this skill may cause varying degrees of knockback and/or stun.

The Wolf-Queen twisted her head around to try to bite me, but I could tell I was just out of range.

*You can't hit what you can't see!*

I drew my bow, and when I felt that her face was close enough, I fired one arrow into her left eye.

Critical Hit!

The Wolf-Queen has lost half her vision!

As she clawed at the arrow stuck in her eye in attempt to get it out, I quickly ducked under her to unload as many arrows as I could into her soft underbelly before leaping out of the way.

Critical Hit!

"Now run like hell."

Since I leaped into her blind side, the Wolf couldn't tell where I was immediately. So I took this oppurtunity to run towards the tree in the center of the glade. It was only when I was halfway there when she spotted me.

I wasn't running there for no reason though.

But rather It's because I had a brainwave not too long ago.

In truth the quest had provided me with the greatest possible weapon.

I reached the tree.

Reached down...

Scooped it up...

Turned around...

Saw the Wolf running full throttle towards me...

Made sure the tree was to my right...

She was about the reach me...

When suddenly...

...

...

...

...

...

...

"HOSTAGE NO JUTSU!!!"

"!!!"

What she saw in my hands was...

The wolf pup!

The effect was immediate as the suddenly swerved to her left, towards her blind side.

CRASH!!!

Straight into the giant tree, losing a big chunk of her health.

"HaHA!"

Using the remains of my leather shirt, I tied the struggling pup onto my back.

(My quiver was slung around my waist rather than over my shoulder)

*************************************************************

I've been fighting for a little over an hour now.

"GroaWoooo!"

"Tch!"

I quickly executed a forward roll, barely avoiding the paw that slammed down where I was a moment ago. The minor gymnastics I learned in Phys Ed class back in secondary school has been proving to be suprisingly useful.

The Wolf-Queen has proven to be quite the vocal bitch. Everytime she attacks she seems to bark, or howl or growl, or make any other kind of noise.

"Take this!"

Once again, I fired arrows towards her underbelly.

By the way, if you're wondering why she's still attacking me without hesitation, it's because the pup had managed to wriggle its way out of the rags that were binding it to me some time ago.

By then I had managed to whittle her health down to about a quarter it's original value. Since then, the battle had degenerated to what you see right now, with me continuously dodging her attacks and shooting at whatever opening I could find.

So far, she had only managed to hit me once more, and that was when I tried to get closer to shoot her other eye out. Luckily by then my health had fully regenerated, and I survived with a sliver of health left.

*Still, she's pretty accurate considering she's blind right now.*

Once in a while, she'd lose track of me completely, allowing me to recuperate my stamina, reload my quiver, and repair my bow before continuing the attack.

The once majestic Wolf-Queen was actually quite a sorry sight right now, with arrows sticking out all over her body. Occasionally a few arrows would fall out; probably the game systems' way of limiting the number of polygons on one body. Just as well, it gave me more unobstructed areas to aim at.

Speaking of arrows, my my once "extremely large" supply of them was starting to run dangerously low.

On the bright side, I had learned a new skill, and leveled up my other skills.

Skill Learned!

Point Blank :

By firing your weapon at close range will increase the effectiveness of your attack.

0 - 1 meters: 30% increase in Attack Power and Armor Penetration.

1 - 3 meters: 15% increase in Attack Power and Armor Penetration.

Improving this skill will grant increasing bonus to Attack Power and Armor Penetration.

In addition to that, my Archery skill has increased to Beginner Level 4, and my Bow Bash skill increased to Beginner Level 2.

At this point the Attack Speed increase from Archery was beginning to be noticable, and it was quite a strange feeling to have your hands move faster than they were used to.

Truth be told, even if I were to die right now, I'd still profit with all the skill gains.

But stubbornness was a trait that ran in my family.

Thwang! Thwang!

I quickly fired two more shots at her leg. There weren't critical hits, but every little bit helps. (Although I really should be saving ammo at this point)

"GrrrRRAA-(SNAP!)-nnnnnn!"

Her jaws snapped shut just inches away from me.

I fired one more shot into her nostril.

Critical Hit!

Due to your "Point Blank" skill, Attack Pwr and Armor Penetration was increased by 30%

The Wolf-Queens sense of smell has diminished slightly.

SNEEZE!

The arrow flew out of her nose.

*Ew gross.*

Good thing I was long gone by then.

"Reload. Reload.. Oh SHeWT!"

When I opened my inventory, I found that I had only 7 arrows left to put in my now empty quiver.

*Best make the best of it.*

While the Wolf-Queen was still trying to find me, I quickly climbed part-way up the large tree.

"HEY, IDIOT BALL OF FUR! OVER HERE!"

When she heard me the Wolf turned towards my direction, but didn't rush over as she normally would. Instead she cautiosly walked over.

She probably knew that the tree was in this direction, and didn't want to crash into it again.

*Not yet, not yet not yet..... NOW!*

When I deemed that she was close enough, I leapt off the tree and raised my bow up high.

"MieEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEENNNNNNNNN!"

BASH!!!

With all my strength, I swung my bow at her skull!

Your skill "Bow Bash" has increased to Beginer Level 3!

STR +3!

The Wolf-Queen has been stunned!

The Wolf-Queen's knees buckled as she fell to the floor.

I carefully perched on top of her head and took aim.

*1! 2!*

I fired a shot into each of her ears.

The Wolf-Queens sense of hearing has diminished slightly.

With her ears already occupied by arrows, I quickly shifted position onto her snout, I fired two more shots into her eyes.

Even though she was already blind, the eyes were still critical weak points.

Cleared of her stun status, the Wolf-Queen suddenly lifted her head up, causing me to fall off my already precarious perch and land on the floor.

*5! 6!*

The two arrows landed on her throat.

(The second one got a lower bonus as the Wolf-Queens head was slightly higher at the moment of impact)

"KOTEEEEIIiiii!!!"

I barely managed to get my bow up in time to protect myself from another paw swipe that caused me to fly far, far away.

*One last shot.*

I stood up and took my stance, keeping my eye on the target as she turns towards me.

Nocking my arrow, I raised my bow above my head, and slowly lowered it into position as I fully drew the bow.

The Wolf charged towards me, fully commiting to this attacking.

Never blinking, I watched for the openeing that I knew would present itself sooner or later.

"GGRRRroOAWi_ICHRRrrrr!"

(alright, maybe going a little overboard with the growls)

The Wolf-Queen growls and snarls at me. Her bad habbit.

For a moment, the opening I was looking for presented itself. But....

*Not yet, she needs to be closer.*

As she got closer to me, she started to turn her head 90 degrees.

*??? Looks like she's going for a bite. Just as well. It will make things easier.*

"GrrrRRoooOAAAA..."

Her jaw opens up exposing the maw I was looking for.

*Wait.*

Never blink.

She reaches down towards me, almost ready to gobble me up.

*Wait.*

Stare into the Jaws of Death.

The jaws start to close around me, ready to encase me in a cage of teeth, bone, and flesh.

*Wait.*

The world turns dark.

My arrow flies forwards.

The cage disintigrates.

And the sun rises once more.

The Wolf-Queen has been slain!

Author's Note:

Hello Again!

Ni Hao!

Konbonwa!

As promised, here is the action part of chapter 2.

For the people who were actually angry with me for the cliffhanger, I apologise.

As for Frosty, congratulations for guessing the hostage situation.

Since this is my first time writing a fanfic, it's also the first time I'm writing an action scene.

The next chapter (and subsequent chapters) will probably take a little longer, since I'm writing them from scratch, unlike the previous releases which were mostly ready by the time this thread was created.

As always, thanks for reading my fanfic, and any and all criticisms and comments are appretiated!
