Chapter 11. Struck dumb and deaf?!

Chapter 11. Struck dumb and deaf?!

The old man looked at Naath and let out a breath, of course the old man could tell that Naath hadn’t used any treasure. He was fully aware that the young man in front of him had indeed refined his own energy. He shook his head inwardly as he place his hand on one of Naaths shoulders and began to put a trickle of energy into his body. Not even ten seconds after the old man started though, Naath asked a ridiculous question.

“Ah excuse me elder, but can I ask that you not just use one frequency of sound? Can you please go through the entire spectrum of low to high? As low as you can go and as high as you can go please elder.”

“Cheeky little shit, I was a “stinky old man” now that you want a favor I’m suddenly an elder? Alright if you give me a good reason I’ll do it as an apology on top of giving you a free breakthrough, hows that?”

“Many thanks elder! Please excuse my earlier comment I can be quite rash when the matters of home are talked about so dicourtiously. I’m sure I’ll be able to bear more with age, as for why I made this request it is simple. My innate body of devour essentially makes it so that every element with all the small variations have a taste. And if I’m honest even though I come from a small village I have always loved exploring new flavors so this was like a gift right from heaven! Elder, with your sound element it is like a flavor that will slowly change over time. How could I pass that up?”

“Ho, I see, the old records are a little incomplete then, I’ll have to update the devour body information when I get back to the sect. That reason is good enough for me I suppose, okay kiddo all the wavelengths and tones it is starting low.”

“DUNNNN!!”

Like that a large low wave of sound emanate from the palm of the old mans hand that was making contact with Naath. The low sound seemed to be felt in ever single persons very bones, some would even swear they felt the bass in their souls. The entire crowd though felt their ears ringing slightly from the sound. Brutus seemed to be the most affected though as he was whimpering on the ground pawing at his ears. Baal saw this and without even thinking walked up to Brutus and put his hand over the wolfs ears. At first Brutus was upset that someone had touched him other than Naath but when he noticed they were helping his to avoid the sound his attitude changed completely.

He looked and saw that it was Baal, the human his master had made friends with. Brutus took note of this and started to feel just a little bit of respect for this human as well. Of course Brutus was still weary after this humans earlier words of selling him off, but this was a good first step to making Brutus trust him.

Once Baal did think and realized exactly what it was he was doing and what a dangerous magical beast he had just put his hands on he quickly removed them. He tried to apologize to Brutus for touching him without saying anything but Brutus moved forwards and put Baal’s hands back over his ears. Baal was completely caught off guard but smiled and properly cupped his hands over Brutus’s ears, even using a little of his martial energy in order to keep the sound out. Brutus instantly felt a wave of relief and gently leaned his head into Baal’s hands, stunning the already amazed crowd further.

As time wore on the sound slowly rose in frequency from low and vibrating in people bones to high and ringing. After 15 minute some people couldn’t take it anymore despite trying to endure and witness what was happening and started to bleed form their ears. These people backed away and reluctantly left the plaza unable to observe further. After 20 minutes had passed the sound was out of the range of hearing for most humans, even most cultivators. However Baal still kept his hands over Brutus’s ears knowing full well this wolf could hear it still. At the 30 minute mark Naath finally spoke up.

“Elder, I am about to break through to the fourth level on bone hardening now. I recommend that you use something to protect your hearing. Brutus, you know what to do, oh and take Baal with you please, we’ve become martial brothers now after all.”

The old man was confused by this statement but when he saw Brutus put Baal on his back and start running like there was a third level demonic lion behind him he took the hint. He used his own sound martial energy to cover his ears and form a barrier unsure as to why.

Naath waited as long as he could to give Brutus and Baal some distance before his breakthrough. After all this was going to cause a huge commotion and if his last breakthrough was any indicator at all he might even take a few of the less sturdy buildings down in the city. Finally after three minutes he couldn’t hold his breakthrough back any longer with all the energy he was absorbing from the old man. This time when he broke though though there was no sound at first. Some of the crowd started to mock Naath at this moment, however, just as they started to speak an insane pressure wave swept over all of them.

The wave of pressure distorted the air itself making a visible shock wave in it. It pushed everyone in the crowd down onto the ground making them panic. The pressure wave spread out and swept through the city, but after 20 meters had dissipated enough to not harm mortals. Feeling this pressure wave the face of the old man blanched to a deathly white. He yelled with his sound martial energy.

“Everyone! Cover your ears and go out onto the street do not stay inside any buildings! Now!!”

His voice traveled across the whole city and the pressure wave earlier cause people to take note so they all listened thinking something major was happening. Once the pressure wave did stop spreading though another insane thing occurred.

*RUMMMMMBLEE

SNAP SNAP SNAP

CRACKLEEEEE

BANG!!!!!!*

Finally the sound of Naaths bones being turned into a fine powder rang out, the sound wave was like a super volcano going off explosively. A whole new pressure wave emanated outwards this time accompanied by a sound that was absolutely deafening! Even the old man on stage who was at the peak of muscle strengthening was struggling to stand in place! The wooden stage began to crack and splinter, the nearby stone bricks in the plaza started to crack in places. Every single person in the crowd was thrown around by this wave of pressure like leaves in a hurricane!

The elder had tried to use his sound energy to protect everyone leading to him wavering as well when the shocking sound wave hit! The sound wave spread out rapidly not diminishing at all until it reached several dozen kilometers away. Even then it was now just weakened and still went on for another tens of kilometers. The massive sound wave swept down buildings like they were a child play set, it left many people injured, and a few had even died as they weren’t cultivators and couldn’t withstand the shock wave.

Finally when the shock wave and sound dissipated completely over a hundred kilometers away Naath had finished making his breakthrough. Everyone in the plaza was thrown around wildly despite the old mans energy forming a barrier over their bodies. They were mostly uninjured but almost every single person there had completely gone deaf from the sound. It wasn’t permanent of course, they were cultivators after all. But it would cost a small fortune to buy the right medicinal pills to fix their hearing!

Without exception every single person present once they stood up just stared at Naath, completely unsure of how to respond. This went beyond just a genius, this went beyond what the talent stone could measure! Every single one of the people here would remember the name Kongbai Naath from this day forward and not dare to forget! The only person here who still had his hearing was the old man, but even his ears were ringing and his body aching slightly from the impact of the shock waves. He laughed out loud at the crowds expressions of awe and horror at what they had just witnessed and joked to Naath.

“Look, not only has young master Naath struck them deaf but also stupid ahahahaha.”

Naath was at a complete loss for words all he could do was laugh himself. This breakthrough produced a result that astounded even him. In fact he managed to reach a full 24 compression in his bones. The only thing he could think of was that the True Void membranes must have a cumulative effect. A situation of one plus one isn’t two but rather one times two is two and two times two if four. Each consecutive membrane seemed like it would have a greater and greater effect on his growth. But this much of a difference was jut… insane!

What would happen when he condensed all of his true void membranes and reached the third stage of his True void Arts? Would he break the whole damn planet apart?!

Even Naath had to laugh at the absurdity of the situation, this was too much even for him. This was the immensity of the void, this was the true terrifying face of the True Void Arts. The old man doing the testing finally stopped laughing and wiped away the tears from his eyes. When he was done he smiled widely and told Naath.

“Young master, the same with your friend earlier, I cannot simply make you a core disciple or elders disciple I don’t have the authority. I can only unfortunately give you permission to enter the sect as an outer disciple at this time. However, with your talent young master it is only a matter of time before you are able to become an elders disciple, hell maybe even the sect master himself will show interest! No he absolutely should!”

Meanwhile inside said sect, every single elder there felt that shock wave and heard that deafening blast! They were all moving at full speed towards the testing site for new disciples, hoping to catch this genius. They couldn’t believe their luck, another genius popping up immediately after Quill? They looked less like elders as they hurried to get to the testing site and more like a pack of rabid coyotes. It took them a few minutes to reach the gate and when the did they pushed all the other people aside not even sparing them a glance.

Most of these people were newly added disciples to the sect so this was far from an ideal introduction to the elders. In the crowd there was even a young man walking side by side with a silver/white wolf. One elder took note of him because he specifically pushed him and the wolf out of the way to move past them. Once they made it to the testing stage they demanded to know who it was that produced such a result. The old man now standing up as his chair had turned to a bunch of wood splinters laughed at them.

“Look at you elders, running like a group of feral dogs at the first smell of meat. I can tell you all who it was but that wouldn’t be any fun would it? I can give you his surname but thats the only hint you’ll get. Kongbai. Now good luck you old pack of wild dogs.”

Once of the elder completely lost his temper screaming

“IMPUDENT!!! Testing elder Song, how dare you speak to us higher ranking elders like this?! I will take care of you myse-”

He stopped short as elder Song had taken out an identity plate, it was a golden plate with the symbol of the Raging River sect on it. The elders were all stunned and elder Song explained.

“Idiots, you didn’t even bother looking at the new rules did you? You all know we’ve been getting more and more talents recently, and that the rules changed because of this. Part of that was that my authority is now second only to that of the sect master and is even equal with the law enforcement head elder. Did you all not notice that Enforcement elder Dave is not here? Hes the only one who read the new rules I guess and decided not to look for trouble with me! Personally I think he deserves a reward for his due diligence in keeping up with new policy and rules.”

All of the elder paled when they heard all of this, they didn’t want to believe it but the title plate in elder Song’s hand proved without any doubt that he indeed had the authority he had stated. It was also true that elder Dave was not here, indicating that all of elder Song’s words were 100% true. Learning this all the rabid elders apologized and stomped off angrily. This time when the disciples got in their way they directly threw them several dozens of feet. Including the new disciple with the wolf and his friend. They simply didn’t care about the consequences at this point as they had all suffered an extreme humiliation.

Naath though who had just been thrown with Brutus and Baal remembered each and every one of their faces and made a note to get revenge later!
