Chapter 3 - Ophelia

Chapter 3 - Ophelia

A blue transparent screen with a spinning vortex appears before James.

"Research" was one of the first few system options which James tested when he was stuck in the forest. All James has to do is to throw things into the spinning vortex so that the system would analyze, research, evaluate and then create the same product in a card format. Depending on the number of customers, the system could generate more than one similar card every day. Currently, the system could only generate one similar card per day.

"Album" was also one of the few system options where it is a storage that keeps the created cards in a categorized order which the James wants. James could also store back cards that had already been generated or taken out from the system. The categories which are created so far are Monster, Equipment, Ability and Item cards. These categories are later divided into either consumable and non-consumable.

Non-consumable Monster Cards are cards that can be summoned and unsummoned. James set the rule that If the summoned Monster is destroyed, it will turn back into a card until the user came back to the shop to pay restoration fees. This also applies to both non-consumable Equipment and Item cards. For non-consumable ability card, the card can be applied to anyone who does not have the ability and cannot apply again to anyone who has the same ability. It also cannot be used again to raise the level of the same ability.

Consumable Monster Cards are cards that can be summoned for a short period of time and both the card and monster will disappear. This also applies to both consumable Equipment and Item cards. For consumable ability card, the card will disappear once the ability is applied to the user.

Due to experimental reasons, James did not set the levels and rarity of the cards. He treated Barren and Corn's parents as beta testers. When the monster cards are given to Barren and Corn's parents, the level of the monster cards is altered to match the user's level. Those cards will be rendered useless once James is done with the adjustment of levels and rarity.

Lastly, "Create" option allows James create cards based on his imagination and editing. Should the created card exceed the information which the system had researched, the creation would become a failure.

James began his experiments by throwing the small sack and the rabbit into the spinning vortex. The system generates a white outlined table that lists the number of elements and materials it has analyzed and details it has evaluated.

James: By the way, System.

System: Yes, Sir?

James: I have been wondering. Where do you get the power source to assist me in all these experiments?

System: Emotions. Sir

James: Emotions?

System: Yes, my power source feeds on the both the positive and the negative emotions of the merchant and his or her customers.

James: Wait, so when I was in the forest, I should be feeling despair and lost but I still feel confident that I can find my way back. That was all your doing?

System: Sir, as a merchant, you should always keep your cool.

James: And who actually wrote that rule?

System: I don't know, Sir. It's already written inside me when I woke up.

James: I see....since you are able to feed on our emotions without us knowing, is there any possibility you might overeat?

System: Not possible, Sir. There are written rules in my programming that prevents me from overeating. For example, the range of mode is from 1 to 5. 1 stands for high despair and 5 stands for high hopes. Should a customer's mood is either ranged at 1 or 5, I would feed till it is either ranged at 2 or 4. As for you, my owner, my written rule requires you remain at 3.

James: I feel like punching the person who wrote your programming. So what new elements have we discover?

System: From the previous meeting with the customer's Barren, the green and yellow magical stones, we have discussed that each element should have its own fixed color but it appears to us it may not seems so. By further researching, the green stones seems to contain other elements. This also applies to the yellow magical stones.

System: Elements found in the green stones are earth, wood, poison, jade, core.

System: Elements found in the yellow stones are thunder, wind, gold, paint and light,

System: Cards created so far are Wooden Bull, Wooden Hound, Wooden Falcon.

James: Maybe we should try using other mixtures. By the way, I thought I did remind myself but I keep forgetting.

System: What is it, Sir?

James: Your name.

System: Sir. My serial code is made up of a long line of codes and alphabets if you want to know.

James: That's not a name. Nevermind, I will give you now. what do you think of Ophelia?

System: Ophelia, also known as help in Greek. Created by the poet Jacopo Sannazaro and used by Shakespeare for his play "Hamlet".

James: How do you know all of this!?

System: It seems anything you need to know will be automatically added to the database. Is there anything else?

James: You do amaze me sometimes. Anyway, from now on, your name will be Ophelia.

Ophelia: Change of name complete. is there anything to add on?
