Chapter 1 - Barren the Hunter

James's recollection of memories was interrupted by a shout.

Corn: Uncle James!

James shifted his view from the card he was holding to the boy who is calling him.

James: Sorry, I was in the middle of something.

James said while showing an apologetic expression.

Corn: Sorry to disturb you. Should I leave your shop?

James: No, it's alright. So how're your parents doing?

Corn: My father.........

Corn's reply was cut off by the ringing doorbell while the shop door was swung outwards.

James: Welcome....Oh! Mister Barren, how is today hunt?

A man in his thirties wearing brown clothes with leather armor, came in smiling while carrying a brown sack that looks heavy. He was also strapped with his two sheathed daggers, a quiver full of arrows and a unique wooden bow.

Barren: Thanks to your magical item. Hunting has become smooth for me.

Corn: What magical item? Can I see it?

Corn spoke excitedly after hearing the keyword "magical item"

Barren: Give me a minute.

Barren put down the tied heavy sack down while saying.

Barren: Let's see where I put it. Ah-ha! There you are!

Barren rummaged through his leather armor and took a card that has the same unique cover.

Barren: Summon! Wooden Hound!

The card disappears and a wooden dog appears Barren.

Wooden Hound: Woof!

Corn: Cool! Can I play with it?

Barren: Go ahead. Don't harm the boy.

Barren looks at the wooden dog while saying.

Wooden Hound: Woof!

The wooden dog barks with acknowledgment.

Barren: James, I managed to find what you want. Is the magical item I wanted still available?

Barren drags his heavy sack to James' counter while saying.

James: Of course, as long the value of the items you have brought is equivalent to the value of the card.

James paused for a while before replying again.

James: but you know the usual. I still give you a discount even if you don't come to my shop regularly.

Barren: Ha, if you mean the time when I escorted you from the forest to town, that was nothing. Who would be that crazy to live in a forest full of ferocious beasts?

James: Even it is nothing, I am still grateful to you for helping me out.

James smiled while recalling the events.

It was two weeks since the time James was stunned by the events that he was in another world and attached along with a system.

James has been wandering back and fro from the tree which he had laid on and tried walking back the same direction which he believed it is the right way.

The problem is the right way which he believed in leads him to a dead end cliff.

It was on the way back where he meets the hunter's Barren. Luckily, for James, communication was not a problem as Barren was able to speak the same English language.

Thanks to Barren's escort, James was able to find a town with human activity. He was glad he did not have to survive on rations which are made of a tube of potato chips and a 1.5 liters bottle of soft drink.

Stopping his recollection of memories, James eagerly looked at Barren and spoke.

James: So may I see what you have in there for me?
