Once Vain

An endless scream bounces repeatedly through Damien’s skull as he is led to his cell. His eyes are downcast and empty. The walls around him are dull and unkept. Every foot has a tiny box passing as a cell emblended in the wall. Scores of men sit, barely able to move. With slinky fingers and sulken skin. Damien makes out a withered old man with a long beard slumped over, no air within his lungs. Next to that is where they throw Damien to the floor. Along with him, they toss a circular device that looks heavily damaged. A recorded voice cuts through the static with the words, “see you soon.” The door slams as Damien lunges at the device. He then buries his head in his hands before coming to tears.
