Dearest diary,

I know it may sound insane, but given all the evidence and strange circumstances, I've come to a strange conclusion. I know they are nothing but a creature of legends but... I believe the predators might just be mermaids. But these are far from the creatures from our tales. The thought makes me dizzy, but there is nothing else that I can think of. I think that I have caught a glimpse of one from under the boat, I know I said I would steer clear of the water... But it just beckons me. To explore, to discover... I shall descend into the cavers tomorrow.
