Chapter 9: The B̶e̶a̶u̶t̶y̶ Idiot and the Beast (3)

The sun has already gone home once we started the camp fire, of course thanks to my magic it did not take long.

Remembering the girl’s ability, I looked for a rock with a large relatively flat surface and carried it over.

“Hey, could you please wash the surface of this rock, I will roast some ribs and belly meat from earlier on here.”

“Ooh that sounds tasty, sure thing!”

As she continued to clean the rock away from the flames I cut up the ribs and belly meat into strips.

By the time she got back, everything is prepared.

Ah, she has that smug looking face again, does she want a praise?

Again, whilst ignoring her, I admit, she did do a great job.

The rock is extremely clean and even dried too.

“Nice work, thanks… Oh I haven’t gotten your name yet, what’s your name?”

“My name is-”

She placed the rock next to the fire and sat down as she replied.

“Daamiliavekorikenii Azilianiovosericalia.”

“...”

Long! So long!

“You may call me Daami for short.”

“Pfft.”

“What’s so funny?”

“Is that really how you pronounce it?”

“Yea! Duh- Me... Daami.”

“Pfft!”

“Hey! Don’t laugh at my name! It was the name my mother left me...”

I can’t, I couldn’t control myself, It fitted this girl so perfectly, a common word from my otherworld knowledge was ‘dumb’ and calling someone a ‘dummy’ was labeling them an idiot.

I probably shouldn’t say anything, the word ‘dumb’ doesn't exist in our world.

“I’m sorry-”

I apologized as I wiped tears away,

“i-it just took me by surprise, anyways my name is Aras, I’m an Ogrekin.”

I introduced myself as I begin cooking.

Ah, the searing sound of pork belly with the melty fat hitting the heated surface creating the porky aroma is temptatious.

Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.

Almost loosing myself to cooking, Daami accepts my apology after a short pause.

“Fine I’ll let it go… anywhom, that’s a rare race! But where’s your crystal horn? I heard as a child Orgrekins had really pretty crystal horns.”

I lifted my hair covering my translucent stub horn after she asked.

“I’m an orphaned Ogrekin, I have this weird horn since I was born, but I was told I am definitely from the Ogrekin race by my mentor.”

“I see… it’s not just me…”

She begins looking sad after I explained.

“I’m also an orphan with unusual race traits-”

She begins to lift her shoulder lengthed orange blond hair behind her ears.

“Ah.”

I never noticed before.

“I’m a quarter-Elvin, I don’t know who my father was, my mother was a half-Elvin born from an enslaved Elvin, unfortunately she was also a slave and abandoned me near a village after I was born. She left a note explaining she did not wish for me to become a slave so she left me with a village in the outskirts within the forest, I stayed with an old hunter who lived on the edge of the village I was left at. As you can see, I also have an ‘odd’ feature, I only have one long ear similar to that of an Elvin, while the other is a normal one that of Humankind.”

She continued to explain her background that she was going to explain earlier. Now that things have settled, I make a better observation of her.

She wore an outfit of leather and cloth combo, fitting that of a hunter title, with tools and fanny pack like sacks tired around her belt, although she is sitting, her height seemed to be above average. Her body build was athletic so her profession must not be a lie then. I quietly continued to listen.

“I was discriminated in the village the first time I went there with the old hunter as a child, they treated me like a cursed child, or worse a illegitimate child of a noble and an Elvin slave. They feared the possibility of a noble looking for me to erase my presence or capture me as a slave and in the process affecting the village alongside. So after that, I stayed living with the old hunter who took me in. He treated me like his own granddaughter so I was extremely grateful, however grandpa passed away a few years after the event. Before he died, he taught me hunting and gathering techniques so I could survive on my own, and on the day I turned an adult at the age of 18, I grew out my hair and left the small house I grew up in and decided to make a living by myself in the forest.”

She looked more gloomy after the story. I do understand why, although it was a sad occurrence, It was a common happening, nobles of any race, with the humankind being the worst offenders, due to their population size, often abusing their authority and carry out atrocities. Including against their own race.

“I was abandoned as a child, I did not know my parents and I grew up living and training with my mentor until I was 18 as well, I did not suffer discrimination as I did not interact much with others, however I sympathize with you, I guess we’re two peas in a pod.”

I tried to comfort her as she looks up towards me.

“You’re not so bad of a person after all!”

“... Of course I’m not! Who just saved you!”

“Ahaha, ok, well since you’re a wanderer and we are also the same age, let’s travel together! I’m sure you’ll need my help I mean you have no common sense.”

“Wha-”

This girl! I take it all back, she’s definitely an idiot, I’ll definitely get dragged down with my future if she comes along.

“Actually I have a goal and it could be dangerous along the way and-”

“No need to explain, we are friends now!”

She leans over and pats my shoulder.

“...”

Her eyes are glittering, they are full of determination, she’s really set on wanting to travel together!

I couldn't even make up a good excuse in time.

“Yea fine, by the way, your pants is on fire.”

The idiot got too close to the fire as she leant over.

“AH! My pants, this was my last good pair!”

“Last good…”

Yea this will be tiring from now on.

As she put her pants out and tried to fix them, I continued to finish grilling the meat on the rock as we camped out the night.
