It's finally the day of battle, Henry V placed me near him with my household troops of 300 levies combined with his personal retinue as his guard numbering a total of a thousand men strong. The total number if our army is almost 10,000 thousand strong including us and the guards while the enemy has an estimated total number of 10,000 also.
According to the chronicles of Pegau Abbey, on 10 February 1115 the Imperial forces gathered at the Kaiserpfalz of Wallhausen and moved about 40 km (25 mi) towards Welfesholz (today part of Gerbstedt in Saxony-Anhalt) to meet the united Saxon troops led by Duke Lothair, with first skirmish occurring already on the same evening.
The next day Henry's commander Hoyer of Mansfeld started an offensive whereby he was killed in a sword combat by the young robber knight Wiprecht II, son of the arrested Count Wiprecht of Groitzsch. The incident decided the battle: the tackling Saxon armies of Lothair were victorious, forcing Henry's troops to take flight. In his 12th century Chronica Slavorum the Saxon chronicler Helmold described the battle as "the largest encounter in our time".
However instead of Hoyer of Mansfeld I became the supreme commander of the army. Our army comprise of 1000 generals bodyguards, 5000 light infantry, 2000 heavy infantry, 1000 missile infantry, 600 light cavalry, 400 heavy cavalry.
Last night some minor skirmishes happened when my light cavalry encountered the enemies scouts. A man named Wilhelm performed splendidly during thr battle with his wits he almost annihilated the enemies scouts.
His 50 light cavalry units split themselves into 5 units and hid themselves before they were even spotted by the enemy, he and his men slowly encircled the enemy scouts near a small hill, 2 units were shown to the enemies as bait and because it was dark the other units where not discovered by them and when the enemy scouts chased the 2 units the other 2 flanked the chasing scouts which composed of 50 light infantry and 10 cavalry units, the enemies rear was left open to prevent the enemies from becoming desperate that may result to unnecessary casualties on our side.
When the enemy troops were broken the last unused unit chased the strugglers, killed those who resisted and captured those who surrendered. 13 infantry 2 cavalry units were captured while 3 cavalry units escaped while the others were killed.
The information we have gathered from the captives states that the enemy comprise 5000 light infantry 3000 heavy infantry 1000 missile infantry 500 light cavalry and 500 heavy cavalry.

The Saxons positioned themselves on the planes of Welfelsholz, to prevent history from repeating itself I planned to fight defensively and divide the troops into 2 one will be led by me and the other by Wilhelm.
But decision incited the ire of the nobility of course.
Noble A: This ridiculous! your letting a commoner and a low noble lead the army your majesty? We will never accept this!
Noble B: Thats right! It's supposedly us who has the right to command those armies!
Hoyer of Mansfeld: Amateurs who still smelled of their mothers milk should not include themselves in the military matters. And what's this nonsense of dividing our troops into two and most of all playing defensively? Do you want out forces to be defeated that badly you cowardly kid?
Noble C: Looks who's talking such boisterous tone but a head full of hot air and rocks.
Hoyer of Mansfeld: Shut up you old bag!
Sigh now I know why this guy died, he's literally what you call a musclehead and a dumbass. Why did Henry gave the armies command in the original history anyways? That I will never know.
I was aboit to explain myself when an unexpected man entered the picture
Conrad III: You! Silence yourself! Are you quarreling in front of the emperor himself you disrespectful bunch?!
Henry V: Enough Conrad, in response to your inquiry of why I chose Alberto and the other commander he suggested is because of their talents in commanding troops and accompanied by their efficiency which I deemed noteworthy.
Conrad III: Which you idiots lack most of all!
Noble C: Well just think of it this way if they fail then at least it's their heads that will fall not yours.
And because of that the nobility we're silenced but they still grumble behind my back though so I should adjust my tactics just incase those idiots do something which they are expert to, doing something stupid.
I ask Anselm on how we should position our troops, according to him if we want to play defensively we must form the shield wall formation with the cavalries and the flanks and missile infantry at front.
Wilhelm positioned himself in our easternmost flank in the offensive formation waiting for the right moment to strike, you must be wondering why we divided ourselves into an offensive and defensive formation in open planes?
Well it's because that with this tactic even though it makes our troops quite fragile but with this formation we can react to any unexpected circumstances with utter flexibility.
While forming ourselves the enemy formed themselves into a line formation with cavalries at the flanks, heavy and light infantry in the center with missile infantry behind, but it also seems like Lothair himself is in the frontline with his guards to further inspire his troops.
Its already noon when they finally marched their whole army against us and with this the greatest battle of our time finally commence.
