Chapter 1: (1108) I leave, I live

In the 14th century Europe the house of Habsburg was one of the most influential houses in the Holy Roman Empire, the Habsburg family produce emperors and kings of the Kingdom of Bohemia, Kingdom of England, Kingdom of France, Kingdom of Germany, Kingdom of Hungary, Empire of Russia, Kingdom of Croatia, Second Mexican Empire, Kingdom of Ireland, Kingdom of Portugal, and Habsburg Spain.

Are you wondering why I’m talking about this stuff? Well that’s because I died and got reincarnated here in the house of Habsburg, you think I’m fortunate? Well let me burst your bubble but I was born as a bastard child, my mother is a maid serving the grandson of Count Radbot of Klettgau, his name is Otto II of Klettgau but for some reason he changed his surname and chose the name of his fortress which is Habsburg.

When one reincarnates he or she needs to have a cheat right? Well my cheat was somewhat both a blessing and a curse because I’m immortal! That’s right I can live until the day I died if I’m not killed. For your information I love history novels much more the stories which takes the protagonist back into the past, time travel if you want to call it, so to learn more about those stories I read the background of each stories, their settings and history because of that I grew loving history, because of that it might just save my life.

It’s now the year 1108 and my supposed father is now going on a campaign against the Hungarians, he’s also accompanying Kaiser Heinrich V in this journey but before he went he left me a message, “Leave the house my son I’m sorry for not being a good father, before I leave I will give you a small city that you can rule, you are already 8 years old and because of your exceptional intelligence I’ve deemed you worthy of such and able to do such responsibilities, the main reason I want you to leave is because of your brother Werner, I don’t want you two to fight for succession if I die, thus I decided to give Werner the reigns when I die I hope you understand my son and I hope you forgive me for being such irresponsible father P.S. Change your name when you leave the house”

Thus I left the house, even though I was just a bastard child he didn’t disdain me as far as I’ve known and read bastard children tends to live a harsh and cruel life, that’s why even though he didn’t properly took care of me as a father I’m still thankful for his love and care. Still I’m curious about the territory that was given to me; it was just a simple patch of land with no name thus I named it Neuehoff from the german word Neue Hoffnung which means new hope, having a total of 100 families half are farmers a quarter are hunters and the others are caretakers of livestock.

If you’re wondering why I’m alone is because my mother still needs to work in the house and I have no followers because I’m a bastard, well it’s not that bad to travel alone sometimes I have merchants accompany me and because my father ruled his territory well there’s only small outlaws fortunately I didn’t encounter one.

When I arrived at the settlement the head is already waiting for me, he’s still young for a village head but majority of the population are still young the eldest are in their 30s while the youngest are still infants, we went to his house and started to discuss official matters, “My Lord my name is Cristoph the chosen head of the settlement it’s an honor meeting you lord…?” ahh yes so this is why father said for me to change my name alright “Its Alberto, Alberto von Neuehoff”.

We started to discuss the basic things, first the settlements circumstances, its economic status, and finally security; I asked the village head to introduce to me the whole village, for the whole day we were doing it when we were done I asked him to convene a village gathering which he in turn accepts, it’s weird though I don’t feel any hostilities from the villagers, do they not feel curious why a child was given such territory?, let alone hostilities I don’t even feel any shred of ill will from them maybe I should just ask this on the village gathering.

While I’m waiting I sorted the documents and scanned some of them, with the village heads information and the documents that was presented to me to summarize it all up the settlement is just barely self-sustainable, the security is barely acceptable there’s only 6 stationed guards while 14 are volunteer guards all in all a total of 20 guards, the villagers circumstances are sad though, there are no doctors, they don’t even know hygiene when one becomes sick 80% chance that he dies, worst of all only the village head knows how to read write and calculate simple math for short the whole village is illiterate!, sigh… where do I even start with all this trouble maybe in the village gathering some of this can be solved immediately.
