Book 4: Chapter 6

The gravel crunched beneath Jessica's bare feet as she followed Nikki's lead through the towering piles of scrap metal and discarded debris. The early morning full moon beat down on them, and a bead of sweat trickled down Jessica's spine, a stark contrast to the icy tension coiling in her gut.

Salina stood waiting for them in the shadow of a rusting car frame, her pale skin practically glowing against the dull, weathered backdrop. "Over here!" she called, waving them over.

Jessica quickened her pace, Nikki matching her stride. "What've you got?" the future werewolf asked, her eyes scanning the junkyard with a practiced eye.

"I think I found the perfect trap," Salina said, her lips curving into a sly smile. "There's an old trash compactor just over there. If we can lure that thing inside, we can turn it into a nice little cube."

Nikki nodded, her expression impressed. "Nice. Let's get to work, then." She turned to Jessica, her purple eyes glinting with a hint of camaraderie. "So, you wanna tell me how you ended up as a werewolf?"

Jessica felt a familiar prickle of unease, but something about Nikki's open, almost friendly demeanor put her at ease. "It just happened, really," she admitted, her gaze drifting to the ground. "I was... out in the woods one night, and I got attacked." She shuddered, the memory of that fateful night still sending a chill down her spine.

"Ah, the classic werewolf origin story," Nikki said, a wry chuckle escaping her lips. "Wanna know my story now?”

Jessica looked up, her brow furrowing with curiosity. "Sure! What happened?"

Nikki glanced around, as if to ensure they were alone, then leaned in closer. "Back in my time, I was a cheerleader, just like you. But one night, I got bitten by a genetically engineered wolf that had escaped from some shady corporation's lab." Her expression darkened, a hint of anger flashing in her eyes. "Those bastards were using the supernatural for their own gain, and I made it my mission to stop them."

Jessica's eyes widened, a newfound respect blossoming within her. "Wow, that's... that's incredible. So you use your werewolf powers to fight the bad guys in the future?"

"That's right." Nikki's lips curled into a proud grin. "I'm kind of a superhero, you know." Her expression softened as she reached out and placed a hand on Jessica's shoulder. "And you know what? I'm glad I'm not the only one dealing with this whole werewolf thing. It can be pretty lonely, being a monster."

Jessica felt a surge of relief wash over her. "Me too. I've been keeping this a secret for so long, it's... it's nice to have someone who understands. At least I have a few friends who know my dilemma.”

Salina cleared her throat, drawing their attention. "As much as I'm enjoying this little bonding session, we've got a monster to trap." She gestured towards the rusting trash compactor, her eyes narrowing with determination. "Let's get to work."

Nikki nodded, her expression shifting back to one of focus. "Right. Jessica, you and I will lure the thing into the compactor. Salina, you'll be our backup, ready to hit it with whatever magic you've got."

"Sounds like a plan," Jessica said, a newfound confidence swelling within her. Nikki was right—she wasn't alone in this fight. She had allies, friends who will stand by her side and take on this threat.

The three girls set to work, their movements quick and efficient as they prepared the trap. Jessica and Nikki positioned themselves at the entrance of the compactor, while Salina took up a position nearby, her hands already sparking with the beginnings of a spell.

"Alright, let's do this," Nikki said, her gaze hardening with determination. "Remember, we need to time this just right. As soon as that thing steps into the compactor, Salina, you hit it with everything you've got."

Salina nodded, her jaw set in a resolute line. "Understood."

Jessica took a deep breath, trying to quell the nervous flutter in her stomach. This was it. Their one chance to take down the monster and save the camp. She couldn't afford to mess this up.
