Chapter 14: Naiveté

Before I could speak again she spoke up again. “We lost a few feet of land. From our south part from what I hear. The people who invaded our land where killed by some knights who live there. That being said with 60 of them attacking. We were lucky one knight lived through that.” Evie said.

“60 deaths is a lot of deaths. I am surpised they didn’t retreat. I am surprised both parties didn’t retreat.” I said without thinking about the current situation.

“To where Yama? Nations avoid war because there is no where to run. Accept we have enough land where people can run back to safety.” Evie said while trying to get herself up in a sitting position. It took her a while put she got up. I would have helped her but I have a feeling she would refuse my help.

“Do other nations not accept refugees?” I asked. Right after the words left my mouth I feel like I was being naive. No, I am naive. Who has room for refugees? Maybe me and other nations out there. The only one I know that can take refugees is my nation. I will gladly welcome you with open arms. You will work though.

“Ha, there are millions of nations possibly in this world. This world is very divided. Haha, Who would accept weaklings in a nation? What will they do run away from all there problems?” Evie said laughing a little while talking.

I see it does make sense. I never understood why nations accept the citizens from other nations. In my opinion if you can’t fight for your own nation. Then why do you expect others to take you in? I guess you could argue civil wars, but it’s still your nation. Fix it, and then you’ll not be a burden on others.

In America at least when I was alive. The refugees had a far to protective status. They could work and send their money to another nation. Disgusting if you ask me. Especially since most refugees are economic refugees. Running from their nation since there nation is too poor.

If I accepted people they would have to work. Which includes working in the military. Not a combat role sure since weaklings will do anything not to fight. I would still make them do maintenance or cleaning stuff up. Poop as to be cleanned somehow. If you refuse to fight then you can clean stuff up.

“Well, anyways did any of them surrender? We can use them as labor. We need more maids or farmers. Maybe even a researcher or two.” I said thinking about what to do with prisoners.

“You really will use people who just surrendered? I guess that is better than death.” Evie said with a sad face. Is she disappointed with me or something?

“Regardless of what I think about people who surrender. You need to get some rest. We are about to be at war with 20 nations. This war will no be like our previous wars. This one will be long and drawn out.” I said with a pissed off attitude. Not towards Evie but the situation.

I know I have infinite retrys or something along those lines. I just hate how I am starting a huge war. Sure I have a lot of neutral kingdoms not participating for now. I also have a few the align with me. I don’t have to worry about those fighting me.

Regardless when I wake up I know I will have to work my butt off. What’s this? Evie is sleeping on the couch? I would bring her to the bed and sleep with her. I just don’t want Enna to find out we are husband in weife in the middle of a war. For now I will just go to sleep.

Something is shaking me while I am asleep. I wish I could sleep for five more minutes. If I could do that I would be happy. I am in a middle of a war so I have no time to rest. I immediatly woke up to find a girl on top of me. She was on top of my chest. Her hands where around my neck. Is she trying to kill me?

When my eyes open her eyes closed a bit and got off of me. She bowed a bit. I remember her she used to be in commonor clothes and have bandages all over her. She still has a few bandages over her left eye.

“Forgive me for waking you up in that manner. I tried shaking your side but you refused to wake up. I am not tall enough to reach your head on the bed. So I had to get on your chest and shake your shoulders to wake your brain up.” The girls said bowing and slightly lifting her maid outfit.

She is trying to bow when introducing a guest. Girls lift their dresses a little bit when meeting someone. Since girls don’t give handshakes they bow a little. Just like the good old middle ages.

“You don’t have to bow and lift your skirt unless you are introducing yourself to someone new. Also why are you so small? You are thirteen, shouldn’t you be tall enough to reach the bed. I know this beed is three feet off the ground but still.” I said to the little girl.

She blushed a little bit and let go of her skirt. “Well, we met on bad terms and wanted to meet you the proper way. My name is Yuki. I was a refugee in the Nation of Felatry. They gave me to a poor family and I was barely feed. I am severely underweight. I think I read that food can affect height.” The girl named Yuki said.

That makes sense. It is a fact on earth that if you don’t eat enough, you growth is stunted. I am sure that is just a wives tale in this world. Regardless of wives tales, she did come here skinny and in bandages.

I opened my screen to see a new message. Four nations were capitualted and what was Beta has fallen. Three white peaces was signed. We are at war with six nations. The amount we gained was astongishly three miles. We took land from the nations taht signed a white peace. They apparently lost a couple of units and surrendered each.

I wish I could get all of the land, but I am we aren’t at war with those people anymore. I want to hurry up and finish these wars and focus on building the nation. Infrastructure, business stuff, farming, and so much more to focus on.

“Ok, time for work. Do you know about Enna and Evie? How are they doing?” I asked the girl named Yuki.

“Um, Enna is not happy. They were talking about something along the lines of marriage. They are now waiting for you at the breakfast table.” Yuki said with a worried look.

Poor me. Enna must have found out me and Evie got married. I hope Enna let’s me live and not die in the middle of a war. That would be embarssing in the history books. I need to face today with a bright smile. Since today might be my last day. I need to at least die with a smile.

I opened the door to the room where we eat all our meals. When I did the girl behind me, Yuki tensed up and tried to put on a brave face. I looked at her and smiled a little more. Yuki is brave to be beside me infront of the two wives. Maybe she can feel the pressure in the room.

I too feel the pressure. I am just ignoring it to keep my sanity. Evie is cool as a cucumber, but Enna. Is starring spears into all parts of my body.
