Chapter 4- Town potatoes
=========
"What the fuck!?" I continue screaming hysterically.
"What the hell did you people do to my arm!?"
The mayor scratches his head of gray hair while the commander just coughs.
After a few moments the mayor Balish finally speaks "Well, when you were found, your arm was already like that.... And even if you said it was cut off, well..."
I open and close my right hand for a few moments, then I swing my right arm around to test it.
Now that I am aware of it, my new arm feels slightly strange....
It feels a bit heavy on my shoulders and it's a bit difficult to move it around.
I take a few deep breaths then ask "So you just found me with a metal arm? What happened to the guy who almost killed me?"
Upon hearing that the mayor looks away and sighs "We found the armor, though what was inside it was.... Just a corpse, though it was as if it had been dead for days now."
I scratch my head "That can't be possible, It moved! And attacked me!"
The mayor then looks straight at me "I know, even we don't know what's going on right now, though something tells me we might find out soon."
To break up the tension built, I laugh and jokingly ask "So is this arm of mine really made out of iron or something now?"
I see the commander smile slyly as he quickly unsheaths a hidden knife and swings it at me.
I reflexively cover my face and close my eyes, though when the knife made impact, it just snapped, I didn't even feel a thing on my arm.
The commander then says "Harder than iron, boy, though you might want to get that checked, it's not normal"
It cough then reply "No shit it's not normal."
[An hour later]
"Aah! Finally, Out of the healers!" I stretch my body and arms outwards as I walk out the door of the hut.
The mayor already left earlier, though the prideful commander was still here.
I ask him a question before exiting "So how long was I out?"
He stands up from the chair he was sitting on and replies "From what I've heard, around a day or two."
I nod then say "Huh, I see, thanks." Then started to leave.
Though before I could, I felt his grip on my left shoulder.
"Before you leave, I just have one thing to ask you..."
I tilt my head and ask "What?"
"We're your eyes always like that? White pupils and all?"
I nod "I got it from my father, he had the same eyes."
He breathes out and scratches his bearded chin "I see, be careful now...." Then let's go of my shoulder.
as I step out of the healer's hut, I see the bustling market place of Arrias town right in front of me, I smile and remember that I haven't been here for a few months now.
The crowds are thick, thick with traders and merchants and also village people who want to buy products.
I wade through them, though some people take notice of my arm and stare at me for quite a bit.
Unauthorized tale usage: if you spot this story on Amazon, report the violation.
Once I made it through the crowded market streets, I see the outline of the Arrias town keep in front of me. The I head towards it because that's also the direction of where the town's entrance and exit was.
As I slowly make my way to the gate, I spot a small, yet well maintained house to my left, it was Alice's house.
I used to go there quite often when I was a child, but after my father left, I stopped visiting.
And also.... Alice is no longer there, around a year after my father disappeared, Alice went missing as well, all traces of her just vanished in one night. What's worse, it seems that no one, not even her parents could remember her.
I stare at the house where I made many good memories before for a few more moments, then I continue on my way to the exit.
[Arrias village outskirts]
"Finally, back at my shack!" I say to myself as I lie down on my small and hard bed.
"Damn, that reminds me, I should really get a new hoe soon...." I mutter to myself as I lay on top of my bed.
"Hold up.... Wasn't dad's old hoe here somewhere?" I sit up
I rummage through my small house, checking every nook and cranny for where my dad's old tool was at.
When I lift my bed, I finally found it. "Damn who knew finding something in this small house would be so annoying?"
I grab the handle with my left hand and try to lift it, though It was too heavy for me to carry.
I let go, then look at my metallic right hand for a few seconds. I open and close it and decide to try lifting it with my metallic arm instead.
I carefully grip it and lift, though this time I was successful.
Why is this thing so heavy? I can even feel it's weight on my metal arm. I think to myself while I sit down on the bed with the hoe still in my hand.
I closely inspect it and find that it's no normal hoe. Instead of a wooden handle, it is made of metal, though what type I could not tell. It also had some strange etchings on the handle and the blade.
I try to decipher it, but to no avail, So I give up and just put it down beside the bed for now.
"Man, what an impractical hoe, I can't believe dad actually lifted that thing..." I say to myself while remembering my father farm the fields.
As I nearly drift to sleep, I smell something, something was burning.
I immediately go outside and see an orange glow coming from the town.
I look closer and see that it was indeed a fire, though I could also hear faint screams of people coming from the town.
I go back into my shack and slowly lift the heavy hoe and rest its blade on my shoulder.
I then take a few deep breaths and start walking to the burning town, what awaits me there, I do not know...
