Chapter 3- unexpected potatoes
=========
[Present time]
<
"So, tell me about the survivor."
I ask the mayor sitting by the chair next to the bed where a young man with black hair sleeps.
The mayor is dressed in lavish clothes, as befitting of his status. He has gray hair and a wrinkled face.
He looks at the sleeping boy then begins to speak "His name is Locke, 17 this year I believe."
I glance at the boy and sit on another nearby chair.
"You say he survived an attack?"
The mayor nods and replies "Yes, but when another villager saw him, he was already like that, and the person in the armor was only a withered corpse."
I scratch my head and ask "A corpse? How could a corpse attack someone?"
The mayor shrugs his shoulders "I myself do not know, but it's most likely for the best if we keep some of your men stationed here as garrison."
I nod in agreement "You're right, these are dangerous times."
I once again glance at the sleeping boy "Was he always like this?" And pointed to his arm.
He shook his head "No, his condition was already like this when he was found."
I use my and to stroke my beard "I see... Wait! He's crying?"
I stand up to get a better view, and I see drops of tears flow down his face.
The mayor also stands up, but at the same time, The boy starts to move slightly.
<
"Weird, what and old memory" I mutter to myself as I wipe of the liquid I feel on my face.
I then stop as I notice multiple strange things,
One, the bed was too soft.
Two, I am using my right arm to wipe my face, that shouldn't be possible.
And three, It's too bright.
I slowly open my eyes to see two men watching me. One of them looks familiar, though the other one is a complete stranger to me.
"Mayor Balish..." I call out to the familiar looking man.
"Where am I?" I ask while looking around.
As I scan the room, I see multiple other beds similar to the one I am currently laying on, though they are empty.
"You're in the healer's Locke, how do you feel?" The old mayor asks me.
"Not too great, my back hurts cause the bed was too soft."
The other man then suddenly cut in and starts to question me "You were attacked correct? Can you tell me any details of what happened?"
"Yes I was, though who are you?" I then look at the man.
He has brown, short hair, and a great beard upon his face. He is in knight's armor, similar to the knight who attacked me, though his armor is adorned with the likeness of a great red dragon on his chest plate.
Stolen novel; please report.
He smiles slightly as he introduces himself "My name is Daro, a commander in our lord's grand army. No doubt you have heard of my great feats."
I quickly answer "Actually, no, I've never heard of you."
His face then distorts into an expression of shock "WHAT!? Surely you've heard of the hero of the civil war!?"
I tilt my head and ask "There was a civil war? When?"
The mayor then looks somewhat annoyed and cuts into our conversation "Commander, I think you should be asking him for details?"
The prideful commander then says "Oh yes, I probably should." He then coughs and faces me again So can you tel me any details about your attack?"
I nod "That day, I was just farming like normal, then that crazy guy just tramples on my fields and threatens me with his sword asking for food. When I tried to charge him for money...."
The mayor and commander then interrupt me "Wait, did you just say you charged him for money?"
I nod "Yeah, a man has to make a living somehow."
The commander then laughs and slaps his knee in amusement "I don't know if you're an idiot or just brave, but it's the first time I've heard about someone charging for money while being threatened!"
The mayor then sighs and rubs his forehead with his hand "Please continue, Locke."
I nod again "So when I asked for some money, he went ballistic. He tried to kill me, though eventually I was able to get a good strike at his head and knock him down."
The commander then mutters "I see.... And what happened to your arm?"
Having been distracted by the questions I forgot about my arm "Oh yeah, it was cut off when he was falling, it hurt bad."
The mayor then shows a concerned face "But Locke, your arm...." He then moves around his arm as if to signal me to move mine.
I do so and immediately I realize something is off. After all my right arm is supposed to be gone.
I close my eyes and slowly turn my head to the right.
When I open my eyes, I see a metallic armor like arm, somewhat shining from the bright lights coming from the open windows.
"WHAT THE FUCK IS THIIIIIIS!?" I scream out loud, in surprise.
Well, this was certainly unexpected.....
