The Thoughts of A Firework
4. Preparing For A New School Life

4. Preparing For A New School Life

I sit around lazily on a sofa in my new home's living room. When I said 'lazily' I meant it. I stretch my body to wherever it wants and feels comfortable. While watching morning shows, I'm thinking it might be better to take a morning walk so I can be more familiar with my new environment. But I might be a little lazier than usual. I moved to this city one month ago. It feels weird, I'm going to a new school, with a new life, new friends, new homework, and a new environment in a city where a hundred suns fill the night.

Speaking of fireworks... How's he doing...?

It's been one month too since I met the boy I met while I was lost in the woods. I haven't visited the place since then. Because I'm busy with what moving people would do and to do the school entrance exams.

I entering a new school after the first semester is over. It wouldn't be too strange for a new kid to start school when the first semester is over but I still feel kind of nervous. Will I be able to have friends in this new environment or will it be the same as before...

After moving from my old city, now I live with my uncle. It might not be right to live together, he just give me a new home. It's not the same as the place where my uncle lives. The place where I live is like a college student's boarding house, but it's wider and has two floors. There is a living room with a sofa and a TV which I'm currently in, a kitchen with fairly complete furniture, and a bathroom. My room is on the second floor, opposite a room that is still empty.

This 'house' is the property of my uncle whose intention is to sell the land and will be evicted. However, after receiving news from my father that I would be moving here, my uncle did not do so. I am very lucky and grateful. It's a bit excessive for a high school girl to have her own house, but I can't live with my uncle because there's no room for me.

"But, living alone like this... it doesn't make any difference" I muttered.

It is Friday, the 23rd of December. The wall clock needles show the time of 9:30, maybe I should leave now.

I and my Uncle are going to my new school to receive my acceptance letter. Because previously Uncle had been informed that I had been accepted as a new student in a fairly good school.

I left around to go to my uncle's house and then to school. Where my uncle and I live is not too far away, maybe about 300 meters. So there is no need to bother bringing the bicycle that is in the house.

After walking for about five minutes at a rather fast speed since I'm in a hurry, I arrived at my uncle's house. Uncle's house has a fairly large yard. From what I heard from my father, Uncle is an important figure in this area. The family of the ancestors or something.

I walk through the large courtyard to the front door and knocked on it.

Knock knock~

"Excuse me, Uncle?" I greeted and called the host then stepped back so as not to be hit by the opening door.

"Ah yes, just a moment" The voice is soft and doesn't sound like a man's voice.

I heard footsteps from behind the door and the door is pushed towards me.

A woman appeared in casual clothes and wearing a red skirt. "Ahhhh, Hana, how are you, girl?".

This woman is my uncle's wife, I rarely saw her back in my old city but she does have a unique character.

"Good afternoon Aunt, is Uncle here?".

"Uncle is out and will be back in a moment. Just get in first, I will brew a tea" Aunt invites me inside while waiting for Uncle. I accept the offer.

"Ah, thank you, then excuse me..." I have to be polite.

"Ahaha, how polite you are".

The interior of the house is very well decorated. After entering through the door, I'm greeted by a passage that cut deep into the house, on the sides of which there were room dividers without doors, there were two on each side. And at the end, I can see the furniture for the kitchen.

I'm brought to the guest room which is on the right side of the door, possibly the room on the left side of the corridor is the garage. In the living room, there is an L-shaped sofa and two small sofas, in the middle of the sofa is a small table made of glass.

"Please sit anywhere, Auntie will bring tea and snacks".

"Ah, no need to bother, I'll only be here for a while. Waiting for my uncle as my parent's representative to enter the new school".

"Ah, is that so? Have you been accepted?".

"I did, thanks for the support".

"You are very polite, girl. I'm sorry we can't let you live in this house. Because there's no room. There's no way we'll let you sleep in the TV room".

Very good consideration, I thank you.

From what I heard from Uncle, this house has four bedrooms. One belonged to my uncle and aunt, my uncle's sister, and two cousins I had never met.

"No problem really, I'm used to living independently".

There's the sound of a door opening and footsteps that can be heard. Aunt goes to see who has come.

"Ah, where are you from? Hana is waiting".

"Is that so? Where is she?" A man's voice can be heard. I heard their conversation from the living room.

"Ah Hana, Uncle apologizes for making you wait".

"It's okay, I only wait for a bit".

"Wanna go right away?".

"Yes".

I agree to go now because it's already around 9:45, it's okay to be past the promised hour. However, it is also impolite to keep the administration staff waiting.

"Okay...". Uncle took me to the garage and there were two cars, one Sedan and one SUV. Uncle chose a Sedan to drive. I sit in the front seat beside the driver's seat. Uncle use his seat belt, and I followed. Then he start his car engine.

The distance between my Uncle's house and my house to school is quite far because my uncle's house is on the coast of the city. It may take about 15 minutes to arrive. There is a bus stop about 200 meters from my uncle's house and maybe I will use it to go to school later.

The road we are on is quite wide, enough for two cars from either direction to step on the gas pedal without worry. The view of the city's coast is full of buildings and houses of residents. I thought it would be full of rice fields. I am mistaken.

"Oh yeah, Hana, Uncle almost forgot. How was your preparation for school? Like notebooks, pens, etc.? Do we have to buy them all?".

"Ah, no need Uncle. I already bought it when I first prepared the things for the necessities for the new house".

"Wow, you completed the preparations a while ago, I see".

"Yes...".

After about 17 minutes of driving, we finally arrived at Ilutu City High School. Cute town name. But it looks from the outside of the school building is quite large. The courtyard is visible from the outside and is indeed very wide.

"Okay Hana, I'll park the car in the guest parking lot. Will you wait at the gate?".

"Okay".

I unbuckled my seat belt and then open the car door. After leaving, I close it again and turn myself towards the school. I looked at the building for a long time, gazing. "So this is my new school huh...".

The school field is in the middle and is surrounded by school buildings that form the letter U.

I approach the school entrance through the gate and meet the security guard there.

"Hey, what are you doing here? It's vacation time for the students".

It's a bit harsh in nature, but that's how security is. But one shouldn't be too wary of a high school girl.

"I'm here to meet with Administration. I will be entering this school next Monday".

"Oh... I see". He continued, "Then please go to the administration room. Where's your supervisor? I will guide you to the office" Suddenly his character became friendly.

"My uncle is parking the car in the guest lot, he will be here in a moment".

After waiting for about two minutes.

"Hana, come on in".

"Ah, let me take you to the administration office, sir".

This school is very large. There are two buildings and all of them are two-floored.

There is also a basketball court in the schoolyard. I thought there was a football field but couldn't see it. Maybe it's in the backyard.

The school security guard escorted us to the administration room. Located on the first floor of Building A, it has sliding doors and is made of translucent glass and there is a bar that says 'Administration Room' above the door.

"This is the administration office, please enter and wait for your turn for the tickets that will be given".

Wow, very formal, using a ticket. Just like in a pharmacy.

"Thank you, sir" I said.

"You're welcome. In that case, I'll take my leave to return to my post".

"Ah yes, thank you for accompanying us" said Uncle.

The security guard turned and walked back to his post only to turn around and say...

"Oh yea, welcome to our school" He gave me a warm welcome and turned back to his post.

The people in this city... are indeed very friendly, huh...

"Okay, let's go in".

Uncle opened the door in front of him and a gust of cold air hit both of us. The air conditioner that is turned on makes the air really cool.

We walk to the counter and behind it's a female staff wearing a formal uniform and smiling at us.

"Hello, do you need anything?".

"Ah, we have to meet the Administration Teacher" Uncle replied.

"The Administration Teacher is taking a break in the canteen. What business do you have with him?".

"This child will transfer schools here. We are here to take care of his files with the Administration Teacher" Uncle replied once again while putting his hand behind my back.

"I assume you passed the test?" The staff turned to me and asked.

"I've been accepted" I replied.

"Then, please wait a moment. I will call him and ask him to come here. Please accept this ticket and take a seat first".

The ticket is received by my uncle and on the ticket it says 'No. 16th'.

"Thank you" My uncle thanked and walked to the seat. I also sat beside him.

It can be seen that the staff took a cell phone from her pocket and touched it several times. Then she brought the phone to her ear. After the staff put his cell phone on the counter. She went into the back room of the administration room.

Looks like we'll have to wait a while.

After 10 minutes passed, an announcement was sent from the room's speaker.

{Please, for visitors with ticket number sixteen to go to the counter}

The announcement is repeated twice.

{Please for visitors with ticket number twelve to go to the counter}

Uncle and I got up from the chairs and headed towards the previous staff at the counter.

"The Administration Teacher will meet you at his office. Please follow me" She walk to the front door and opened it. We followed her behind.

The school looks very quiet. Probably because it's vacation time. We went up the stairs flanked by two classrooms. Then go up to the second floor and turn right. After that, you can see a room with a bar that says "Administration Teacher Room".

We stop our walk at the front door of the room.

"This is where he will meet you".

"Then, thank you for bringing us here" Said Uncle.

"It's fine, I'm just doing my job".

The staff smiled and intended to return to her post. "Then, I will return to the administration office". And she left.

Uncle said to me. "Are you ready?"

"Yes" I answered briefly.

It's nervous but this is just my acceptance process as a student in this school.

Uncle opened the door and revealed a man sitting on a sofa. "Ah, welcome to our school" He gave a warm greeting.

I replied, "Thank you".

The man stands up and introduces himself, "Nice to meet you, my name is Jagar Raditya. I am the Administration Teacher at this school".

I replied, "Nice to meet you, my name is Hana Binatha. I will be entering this school the day after tomorrow". I introduced myself and Uncle followed. "I am the guardian of this girl, her Uncle".

"Please, sit". Mr. Jagar sat down and we also followed him.

The table that separates both me and Mr. Jagar has a blue folder filled with files. Maybe it's my file.

"First of all, I will congratulate Hana for successfully entering this school".

"Yes... thank you. I have the support of my family".

Mr. Jagar smiled. "Actually this meeting is only for formalities, the provision of school uniforms along with attributes and school books". He lifts the blue folder on the table and a black plastic bag, quite large. "Inside this is your files. We will return them because the school has finished formatting them" said Mr. Jagar as he push the folder onto our part of the table. "And this plastic bag contains uniforms, attributes, and mandatory books from school". Mr. Jagar lifted the black plastic bag and put it on the table.

"Thank you," I said.

He put his hand back under the table and took some kind of white paper. "Before everything is finished, we will ask for signatures from the students and their supervisors as the final verification that you are ready to become a student of this school" he said while holding out a piece of paper and a pen.

Uncle take the paper and pen from Mr. Jagar's hands and then started to sign in the space provided. When finished, Uncle handed me the paper and pen. I take it.

When I was about to write my signature, my hand stopped. Like, won't move. I remember the times when I was still at my old school. Am I hesitating now? Even though I'm almost...

"What's wrong Hana? Please sign on your part" asked Uncle.

I can do it...

I managed to sign the paper. The feeling of relief that comes with a new burden on the heart.

Mr. Jagar and Uncle looked at each other. Mr. Jagar speaks up. "If it's okay, may I ask why you transferring in the middle of the semester?". The question made me freeze for a moment.

"...B-becau-".

"Ah, it's fine if you don't want to tell me. However, if there are any problems in the future, please talk to me". Pak Jagar calmed me down. That's a teacher for you, he can guess what's in my mind.

"Yeah... okay" I said.

Mr. Jagar stands up. "Okay, all processes have been completed. With this, you have officially become students of this school. Congratulations".

I too, stand up, "Yes, thank you very much". Then I bowed. I raised my head.

"Okay, how about we go home now?" Said Uncle.

I nodded.

Uncle then thanked Mr. Jagar, "Thank you for taking the time".

"No, no. I'm just doing my job".

"Then we'll excuse ourselves". Me and my uncle then opened the door of the room and started the way home.
