When we reached the class, it was almost packed full. This class was situated in the school hall. It was big and the only room in the school that could occupy the lot of us. This was not a usual scene. Usually, people only come and go as they pleased. Attendance was not compulsory, so, nobody came unless they don't have anything urgent. People living in poor conditions may have to go hunting or work which may take days. So, sometimes they miss class, and nobody could say no to that. But today is the last day of school for all of us and they have to get a soul beast all of them came. We will also get a merging portion today for the merging process. Everybody was seated next to their friends and they were all talking. We also took seats in the middle.
Very soon after we got seated Mr Silva the headmaster of the school came. He had a book in his hand. He places it on the podium in the school hall and looks at the crowd in front of him. The noisy hall becomes silent.
"I know you guys are happy, confused or scared, planning for the future, deciding what to do or where to go. You will also be looking for information about how to get into universities and when they start their admissions. I will provide you with as much information as I can."
He took a breath and looked around " Now I am going to revise somethings for you guys that you already know. First about Energies and Affinity's. I know that you guys have learned it for many years now, but i have to just refresh your memories about everything."
He smiled at us and continued " Force affinities are of 3 kinds – Ki or Internal Force, Mana or External force and finally Aatma or Soul Force. People can use Ki to increase one's physical features. Ki helps us, humans to increase the speed and strength with which they move or do things. It strengthens muscles, tissues and bones. You can't attack directly using Ki. But it can improve humans to limits almost like a metal. If correct affinities are found Ki makes one's body very tough to break.
Then comes Mana, which is an external force. It does not change or add any benefit to one's body directly. It is used in conjunction with sounds, spells, or actions that turn into attacks or defences. Mana is a magician's weapon. Mana users need to be very intelligent to effectively and efficiently use it. There is something called Mana weaponization which is a very tough mana technique that converts mana into a physical weapon like a sword or a spear. "
The school clerk brought a glass of water for the headmaster to drink. Mr. Silva drank the water and continued
"Sorry for the interruption, where were we, ah yes, aatma. Last is the Aatma or Soul force. This is the odd one out of the 3. Aatma can be used to attack directly but only mental attacks, not physical attacks. But that is a very high level technique not all can do. But in it's peak power aatma user can use mental attacks also. Aatma is commonly used by way of making a soul pact or contract with a soul beast. People with a high amount of willpower, intelligence and wisdom tend to be highly successful as Aatma users."
He gave a pause let all that information sink into every students minds.
"Now then we will talk about there genral natures. Ki users tend to take profession with a high number of physical confrontations. Even in the non-combat profession ki is preferred by professions like smithing, sculpting and mining. Punches or kicks from Ki users always pack a load. Ki users also have high-speed attacks. In a physical confrontation, they have the upper hand. "
He drank one more glass of water and continued.
"Mana users on the other hand are long-distance fighters. They are magicians and Mid-range attack suits the best. Professions like Magicians, Priest, and Elementalist are all examples of mana users. Non-combat professions like Alchemists, and Doctors also prefer having mana."
"Aatma users are people who are summoners, Pact makers or contractors, Necromancers etc. They use connections with the beasts or elementals or beings from other planes to fight or get their work done. There are some users who attack with weapons and use their combination with the beast to fight or work. All non-combat professions are good with Aatma users but there is nothing, in particular, they are very good with except in maybe farming and animal rearing."
He paused for a second and looked around. " Now that force knowledge is updated lets get into professions"
He smiled at the students to his left and continued. "Professions are generally 2 kinds Combat and Non-combat. Combat professions are 6 and non-combat are numerous. Most people after selecting a profession take one of 2 options. Either they Study or go on a journey of Lovitus. A citizen of the Jambu empire has 18 University options to study from. All of them are very prestigious there are even students from outside the empire coming there to study. People are coming from the far west where there are only deserts and from the far north where it rains snow and lakes are frozen for half of the year.
For combat professions, university education is for 5 years but for non-combat professions, it extends for 8 years. For the combat profession, it is 2 years initial then 3 years final. But for non-combat, it is 3 initial 2 intermediate and 3 final. After their education both of them serve the empire for 3 years only after that could they do what they want. They could either continue the work or take up something.
Royal Road is the home of this novel. Visit there to read the original and support the author.
The university education is on a merit basis with it being free for the highly talented and paid for the less talented. Most universities can accommodate up to 300 students a year. So, each university has around 2500 students at each time depending upon their speciality.
The second option is to join the adventurer association. If they join, they have to do compulsory work once every year which the adventure association recommends for atleast 12 years. After that it becomes optional. Even then most adventurers do those because of the high amount of compensation from adventurer association's work."
He took a second for all that to sink in. Then he said
"There are, basically, 6 combat professions. Those are: -
Ø Tank – They are the defensive powerhouse of every battle. They fight while defending, they retaliate more than initiating a fight. These people usually have a single-handed weapon and a shield. There are also groups who use two-handed weapons and discard the shield. In a fight, they help in organising the defence while guiding the offence to stabilise. They have great defensive ability and stamina and strength
Ø Fighter – They are the offensive front of every fight. They usually carry a lightweight weapon because they depend more on fluidity in attacks. But there are a lot of people who carry two-handed weapons or heavy weapons for attacking. They usually have high stamina and strength and speed.
Ø Rogues – These are the group that specialises in speed attacks and attacking and escaping. The hit and run tactic is the most common tactic used by rogues. There are many other tactics used by them. They usually depend on these tactics to successfully win a fight. They usually depend on dual weaponry of lightweight nature. They use short weapons like knives, short swords, daggers etc. They make great assassins and collecting information is their speciality. They usually have high speed, dexterity, stamina and intelligence will also be high.
Ø Rangers – These are the group that predominantly fight from long range like using bow and arrow. Yeah, my kind of people. There are also people who use weapons like darts, slings, and Javelins. They are usually good at providing backup and initiating a fight. They could also be used as assassins. These people also have substitute weapons like short swords or short weapons. They can be substituted for both rogues and fighters, but only for a short period of time. They have high dexterity, stamina, strength and intelligence.
Ø Mages – They are the main ranged or mass destruction providers in a fight. They usually don't have a weapon other than a staff or a wand. Their physical capabilities are low compared to other professions but they are magically well built. Their lower physical capabilities don't mean they are the easiest to kill, most mages have high defences using magic like magic shields or barriers.
Ø Clerics – Technically speaking clerics are also mages. But they don't fight. Clerics lack attacking capabilities. They are the lifesavers on every battlefield. They are the immediate as well as essential life support of every fighter in the field."
I thought 'Each affinity has these 6 options to choose from and these professions may be modified according to their weapon of choice. There were 100s of combinations for each job according to preferences. Also, if you have more than one force affinity then that also influences the choices. For example, if you have all three affinities with Mana being the primary and Aatma being your secondary then you could become a summoner but if Aatma is your primary and mana is your secondary you could become beast tamer, not Summoner. The difference is that Summoner has to do a procedure similar to those without Aatma as main that is they need to kill the soul beast to link it. But the benefit is that no matter how many times a summon dies it could be resummoned after a few minutes to hours depending on your level. Another difference is that Tamed beasts are more loyal and trusting towards their masters than the summons. But if your primary is Ki and your secondary or tertiary is Aatma then you could be only a beat hunter. The difference here is beast hunter has a lower number of summons and he is a half summoner and half-beast tamer. He has to do both their procedures according to the situation.
Clerics are people different from Mages like summoners and beast tamers. Clerics have an additional blessing of Prithvi, God of Life. It is a rare blessing only 3 of 100 get it. So, most groups use the help of alchemists or doctors in their battles. Alchemical apprentices are the most common ones because most of the fire, Lightning or magma users take it as a secondary profession. Elemental affinity also differentiates clerics from each other.'
