“WHGH….” The jackal started growling, Renji was sighing in relief when the Jackal started growling once again.

‘What the hell is going on here?’ Renji thought as he was terrified by the sound that he just heard. It seemed like the jackal was ramming its body into the entrance of the bunker where Renji was hiding.

‘But the stinky moss should work on it as well, so why is it trying to come after me? I didn't move nor did I make a sound that would trigger them, I was told that their noses are quite sharp, and they hate the smell of the moss.’ Thought Renji.

He was trying to rationalize the situation; he couldn’t comprehend why the jackal would want to kill him as he hated the moss and avoided it at all costs.

‘I must leave this bunker immediately, thankfully these bunkers are made for any kind of situation as there were many entrances built.’ Renji started to make his escape through the furthest exit he could find. He didn’t have much time as it seemed like the entrance that the jackal was attacking would break soon.

‘Good I just need to close this now and I will be able to buy myself some time.’ Renji thought.

Renji was able to make it out of the other exit in time, just as he was about to exit the jackal broke through the entrance. Renji without wasting any more of his time closed the lid as tightly as he could. This lid was special and stronger than the others, this lid was made of stone and to open it and close it one needed to pull a lever which in turn opened the lid with the help of a low-quality mana stone.

As Renji closed the lid, he broke the lever that opened and closed the lid as he didn’t want to take any chances. Renji looked around and found himself in total darkness, he could only see small light coming through from far away. It seemed like he was inside some kind of cave; he didn’t hesitate as time was of the essence and he ran as fast as he could towards the light.

‘I will go straight as the roads are twisty.’ Renji thought as he saw two options in front of him, one being a dirt road that would surely lead him to the city and the other one that would lead him to a dark forest.

Renji was somewhat confident in traveling through dense forests as he was very skilled in parkour, all of which he had learned through training from his father. On the other hand, if Renji chose the road to go through, he would have to travel through windy roads, meanwhile, the jackal would just come at him straight, so the choice was obvious.

‘What the hell....’ thought Renji as he came across the area where the massacre had occurred a few minutes ago. Seeing the gory site Renji became somewhat nauseous as he hadn’t seen so many dead bodies and blood before. This was the first time he had experienced the horror of the forest.

Even though he wasn’t feeling that well, he didn’t allow himself to slow down. He took a wooden sphere from a nearby dead body, with the parcel in one hand and a sphere in the other he ran with all his might.

“GURRRR….” The sudden growl that came from behind him scared the crap out of Renji.

“How the fuck did it manage to destroy the lid so fast. Did it perhaps come out of the destroyed lid? No, that can’t be possible, it shouldn’t have that much of a brain to do that.” murmured Renji as he couldn’t figure out how the jackal managed to catch up to him so fast.

‘It seems like the jackal is limping, I am sure it would have killed me by now if not.’ Renji thought as he saw the jackal running weirdly, it seemed like the last attack from the man earlier had badly damaged one of its legs. Although Jackal’s speed was greatly reduced because of the injury, unfortunately, it wasn’t reduced enough so that Renji could escape easily.

With every passing second the jackal came closer and closer to Renji, he started to panic after the jackal was almost 10 feet near him. He started to constantly look behind him, and as many times he looked that many times the jackal had closed their distance.

“Shit…” Renji cursed as he suddenly tripped as he was looking back. Renji didn’t fall but he was imbalanced and his speed was reduced for an instant. In just that instant the Jackal came right behind him, it leaped towards Renji swinging its claws at him.

“Ahhhhhh….” Screamed Renji as the jackal had managed to land its claw on his back. Renji could feel his back getting hot because of the blood that was coming out of the wound. Thankfully the wound wasn’t that deep as he managed to dodge at the right moment. If he hadn’t moved at that time, he would have been dead with 2 pieces of his body being scattered in different directions.

The wasn’t deep but it was still painful, Renji’s mind became numb because of the pain he was in. Even after being in so much pain, Renji didn’t slow down a bit. He was running like there was no tomorrow, just then an obstacle came and he had to change direction. Renji changed his direction with no problem but, the jackal wasn’t able to do so in time because of its injury.

With a loud banging sound body of the monster collided with the huge boulder, and the Jackal made loud whimpering sounds in pain. When Renji turned his head to see what had happened, he could see that the jaw of the jackal was badly injured. Half of its face was hanging down, but even in that condition, the monster was chasing after him to kill him.

‘Why does it want to kill me so badly? If a monster is hurt so badly, they would think of running away not attacking.’ Thought Renji, trying to rationalize the situation. He couldn’t understand the behavior of the Jackal at all.

Renji was slowly losing speed as he was losing stamina rapidly. The chase continued, and Jackal injured Renji multiple times. Renji had found out the jackal was unable to change direction instantly, and he used the same trick many times to injure the jackal. Jackal was also gravely hurt from constantly running into obstacles.

Renji as well as the jackal had lost a lot of blood, leaving behind them a huge trail of blood. Renji was starting to feel powerless as strength was slowly leaving his body along with the blood. Even the jackal had lost a lot of blood but for some reason, its speed remained constant.

The jackal was behaving extremely weirdly, it was acting as if it had gone berserk. It constantly tried to kill Renji, even after it had lost both of its eyes. While Renji was in the blink of losing consciousness, he lost a lot of momentum. The jackal was once more behind him and leaped to attack him, this attack was different though as the jackal instead of aiming for his head aimed for his legs.

“NOOOOO….” Yelled Renji as he fell to the ground because of the injury on his legs.
