Chapter 4: The Web Novelist's Experiments

Chapter 4: The Web Novelist's Experiments

Author: I removed the part where the mechanical pen had an eraser in Chapter 1, I mistook mechanical as friction apparently. My bad. I also fixed some grammatical errors and missing words in that part.

Anyways enjoy.

"Noooo!"

The boy started running back to where he and the woman had been from, but was stopped before he could do so.

"No Maxi! We need to leave!"

"But my dad!"-

"You need to listen to me! Your dad is trying his best right now, he promised me to keep you safe! Are you gonna make him waste his efforts!? I want you to trust me, okay?"

Large tears began to flow down from the boy's eyes. Though he was reluctant to, she was right. His father had stayed behind to buy time, enough for both of them to escape. It took a while to truly convince him to leave his only beloved parent, but fortunately, it wasn't too late.

He hesitantly nodded while clenching his fists.

As they were nearing the exit, he looked back at where they came from.

With his vision blurry from his tears, he said in his mind...

'Promise me you'll come back, just like how you promised her, please....'

"...."

Eyes, meet Sunshine. Sunshine, meet Eyes.

Maxi had woken up from his quite uncomfortable nap, the ground was hard, the grass was itchy, and it was cold. He had to find a better resting place, or else he'll probably have back cramps.

He stretched for a bit before picking up his things and stood up.

He still wanted to experiment on the notebook's abilities, such as if there were restrictions or the like. He knew that it was able to create objects out of nowhere, but what else can it do?

While thinking of such things, he glanced at the cub that had already woken up, small icy blues staring back. Was it waiting for him or something? When did the little guy woke up?

"Arf!" Barked the dog.

With a smile, he replied. "Good morning, or is it afternoon?"

The sun was up quite a bit, so it was probably morning, or so he guessed.

He yawned a bit before hearing grumbling noises, he saw that it came from the baby hound. It's ears drooped as if to say that it was starving, it was about to get fish from the pond, but Maxi had a thought.

"Wait for a moment please" Said Maxi.

He had told the cub to wait, even when it wanted to gather food. The cub was a bit irritated as it was already hungry, but he told it that he was gonna get the food himself. This made the cub tilt it's head in confusion, was he gonna get the fish?

Maxi tried to think of what to use the notebook for, so he came up with an idea to catch the fish and cook it.

He had opened his notebook and started writing, he wanted to experiment right now for a bit. First, he simply wrote the words "fishing pole" to see if it can create the object.

A flash of light had appeared in the ground in front of his eyes, the sight had made the cub back away, but was told by Maxi that it was nothing to worry about, so it began returning to its original position.

A few seconds later, in its place was a fishing pole.

"It worked!" Exclaimed Maxi. So it was able to create objects simply by writing their names, interesting.

He also noticed that the word "fishing pole" was still written in the page. Huh? Wasn't it supposed to be erased like what happened last night? He'll have to find figure it out later.

He picked up the fishing pole that was black in color, and had begun inspecting it. Yup, definitely real. Now he wrote in "fishing line" and "fishing hook". The flash of light appeared again, but in place was a fishing hook and and a long thread of fishing line. So it was able to create multiple objects at the same time, quite useful. The words were still written as well.

Next, he wrote "five worms", he wondered if adding numerals will affect anything, and was curious to see if it can create living things.

And what did you know, it worked. The process of its creation was repeated, and had made five worms.

He was amazed. It was simply worms, but he had now found out that it was possible to create something that was living.

Oh the possibilities....

Also, the words were actually gone. He guessed that it was due to the object created was a living thing, then what about the burger? Again, he'll figure it out later.

Now regarding his ability in fishing, he wasn't an expert, but he had a gained a bit of experience when his father took him camping. He had connected the line to the pole, and then tied the hook to the line.

He could have just wrote the three together and combined them so he didn't have to do it manually, but for now, he wanted to do this. It brought up some great memories from back then, so it was fine to make it this way.

Next, he baited a worm (poor, poor worm) in the hook, and had simply started fishing in the pond.

He had used up all of his worms, but he was able to gather 2 fishes, one for him and the other to the cub.

He didn't know if it would work, but he wanted to see if he can manipulate the location of where the object will be created. He thought that if he pictured in his mind the location, it would be placed there. He also thought if mixing multiple words together was valid. He wrote "campfire", and pictured that the object was placed in between the tree and the pond. The two were a good distance apart from each other, so it was fine.

The flash of light appeared again, but this time it was a bit bigger. To his surprise, the campfire was actually placed in between them, but it wasn't in the exact same spot that he wanted it, he'll need some work on that.

Same with the worms, the words written were gone.

The wood seemed to look like it just started burning, but the fire seemed big enough already.

As soon as it was made, Maxi made some skewers to help cook the fish to the fire. While all of this happened, the cub had watched everything, it was amazed to the point that he started wagging his tail in delight while barking happily.

"Arf Arf!"

When the fish had finally cooked, the two of them had started eating. To Maxi, it's flavor was miles apart from the heavenly burger that he ate in delight, but was still glad that he was able to experiment on the notebook's powers.

After eating, he decided that leaving now was a good time as any, but first....

He took the fishing pole, line, and hook, and piled them in one place.

He grabbed his notebook and his pen, and glanced at the words still written:

- fishing pole

- fishing line

- fishing hook

He wondered if he did it like this:

- fishing pole

- fishing line

- fishing hook

......

.......

Nothing happened.... yet.

The words that were crossed out had visibly turned transparent before disappearing completely.

"Wha-"

A slightly strong wind had suddenly formed around the area.

The wind grew stronger, and had circled the three objects. Maxi watched in awe as a black hole suddenly appeared above the items, sucking all of them almost instantly. It soon vanished as fast as it had appeared.

....

...

"..What the hell?" Said Maxi, still shocked about how the items were taken away.

He got the results he had expected, but he didn't expect it to be that flashy, much less a black hole appearing.

Even the cub was amazed at the sight that had occurred. It probably didn't see anything like this before.

He questioned the method of erasing objects, he was still dumbfounded.

It took a while, but the two had finally regained their senses, it was truly quite shocking.

"Huh...well, I guess I need to head out now."

"Arf!"

"What is it?"

He glanced at the cub, that reminds him, why hadn't the cub headed out to leave yet? It had already woken up moments back, it should have been fine, with the glacier hounds' naturally fast speed and keen senses, even a young pup can avoid great danger quite easily.

"Where are your friends? Your pack? Don't you have one?"

*Whimper*

"Uh.."

It's ears drooped down with it's eyes staring at the ground, did something happen? It looked to be perfectly fine when they had first met. Yet it looked like...

He doesn't know what happened, why it was back there in the forest, but it looked as if its expression showed signs of sadness.

Maxi softly patted it's head, the eyes of the pup soon stared at the awkward smile the young man gave.

"You know what? Forget it, if it brought up something bad, then I won't pry any further."

The cub had showed a face as if it understood, it nodded in understanding. Most monsters are generally smart, so to able to understand other species is nothing out of the ordinary. It can also be due to their understanding of body language.

"If you want to, you can come with me if you want."

The cub had been a bit surprised for a moment, before replying with a cheerful:

"Arf!"

They never noticed, but after a while, their relationship slowly, but steadily grew stronger. It seems that now they have finally became aware of it, and soon became friends.

"That also reminds me, If you want to come with me I have to give you a name. That way, we can understand each other better."

"Arf?"

It tilted its head in confusion, is it wondering what name he was going to pick?

He thought for a moment before finally opening his mouth.

"How about.... Snowflake."

It shook its head. What, it doesn't like that name?

"Well then... how 'bout Snowcone?"

Nope, it seemed like hated that name more than the last one.

"Icicle?"

Nope again.

"Popsicle?"

Nope.

"Canada?"

Nope, it doesn't even know what that means.

"Cooler?"

Yeah, nope.

"Friez-, wait no, I actually hate that name"

Yep, the dog is questioning Maxi's poor naming suggestions.

'What to name it, hmm. I don't even know its gender, so a gender neutral one maybe?'

"Then what about... Winter? That seems like a fitting name."

The cub's ears perked up, it seemed to like that name."

"Arf!"

As if to show that it likes the name, it wagged its tail happily.

"Arf Arf!"

It leaped a considerably fast speed towards Maxi, who fell down on his bottom after receiving the impact, all the while his face being licked by the now happy puppy.

"Hahaha! Alright alright!"

After getting up, the two stared at each other for a while, until..

"Well, guess that means we'll be stuck together for a while, Winter"

He reached his hand to gently rub the cub - now named Winter -'s head.

It gladly accepted it with glee.

"Arf!"

With this done, they finally head out.

Maxi and Winter. They will continue to bond and strengthen their friendship for a long while,

Until something of course... happens.

Chapter End.

I'll consider Winter as gender neutral for now, so I'll simply address them as "they".

I'm not gonna lie, I chose the name Winter because of a comment back in Chapter 1. So thanks for indirectly helping me good sir/madam. XD
