Chapter 2: The Web Novelist Is Shocked

Chapter 2: The Web Novelist Is Shocked

*TSPGoF*

There was a certain web novel that caught the interests of many people, it wasn't the best, but it was good enough to be widely known amongst the internet.

It all started within the world called [Vitaeria], where the concept of magic existed.

Magic is the spiritual essence of a soul, it is what strengthens the world. Without it, life will deteriorate.

Along with it, there existed all forms of life.

There were many races that inhabited [Vitaeria], but there were 5 specific races that had been able to establish countries of their own.

There were the strong, courageous humans. The fierce and agile Beastmen. The cunning and intelligent Elves. The bulky and technologically advance Dwarves. And finally, the prideful and fast Demons.

Wars were common, and each had lasted for almost decades. This was simply due to the races' disagreements to each other. Because of that, hatred has formed within each of them.

They primarily fought with weapons that were used for either close-combat or long range, but they also used magic along side them.

The protagonist was actually not a race from the main five, just a more lesser known one.

The story gave a slight insight to the difference between choosing or making an act that would be considered favoring one side and straining another, and choosing or making an act that was unbiased, and neutral.

The plot was enjoyable, and it was overall quite good, so the people say.

Now back to the main problem at hand.

Maxi had simply stood there, dumbfounded by the creature that he saw in front of him.

It was surely a [Glacier Hound]. He couldn't mistake it.

But....why?

It made no sense to him. He's currently in reality right? Then why is it that something he had created from his novel, is currently looking his way?

More questions are forming in his head. It wasn't a dream, he confirmed that.

This is reality..... or so he thinks it is.

Maxi is currently stressed out. He just can't believe it.

He had to take a few big breaths, probably more so, considering the unbelievable situation.

Maxi had somehow calmed down. How he was taking this all in, he didn't know.

He just hopes he isn't insane.....

'If this is reality, then that thing in front of me is real. If it really is a [Glacier Hound], then I should know what to do... probably.'

He had to identify his current situation right now, since he couldn't a short while back.

Glacier Hounds live in cold-climate areas, but due to their unusual bodies, they can survive almost anywhere. They become aggressive if threatened, but they're mostly neutral.

If he remembers correctly, they're Level 6 monsters.

Levels signify the threat of a monster, it starts off from Level 1 all the way up to Level 12.

Level 1-2 monsters are very weak, even an untrained citizen can kill one with enough effort.

Level 3-5 monsters need more experience to tackle, people that can take them ranges from the common soldier to a knight.

Level 6-8 monsters are more stronger, and need groups to deal with.

Level 9-11 monsters are powerful, it would take an army to kill one. It's quite rare to encounter these types.

Level 12 monsters are catastrophic, one alone has enough power to destroy a country. Though people don't believe they exist, since nobody has ever seen one. The few who got to see at least one were considered crazy, so no one believed them.

Though Maxi may have encountered a Level 6 monster, it's still a child, so there shouldn't be anything to worry about.

He actually thought it looked adorable too...

"Arf?"

"..Hey there little fella."

Maxi wondered why the cub was in an area that seemed far away from its home. It would be common for a pack to leave their snowy homeland in order to relocate, it was so that they can repopulate in other areas. It's the reason why they're almost commonly encountered.

Is the little cub lost?

He didn't really thought about it since he was shocked when he first saw it.

"Are you lost?"

The cub slightly tilted it's head to the side as if it understood him. Anyone would have thought of it to be cute.

Stolen content warning: this content belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences.

Maxi slowly approached the cub, but it seemed to think of it as hostile, and growled at him. Snow particles seemed to be visibly emanating around the it.

Even if it was still a child, it still looked pretty tough. Especially since Maxi's just an ordinary person.

"Don't worry, I won't hurt you."

It was understandable, who would trust a complete stranger that they met a few seconds ago?

He had to calm the cub down and tell it that he was friendly. It took a few tries, but the cub seemed to hesitate a bit before inching closer to him.

"Why don't you come with me? We can find the exit together."

Maxi gently told the cub, it seemed to be a bit happier now that it has company.

"Arf!"

The cub's tailed wagged happily before joining the novelist.

"Guh, finally!"

It took them at least 20 minutes of walking around to find an exit. Needless to say, he was almost jumping in joy when he found one. The cub seemed to be happy too.

"Arf-arf.."

The cub seemed to be feeling tired. How long was it lost inside the forest? More importantly, why was it lost in the first place? Where was it's travelling companions?

He'll have to think about it later.

"There, I found a place we can rest"

Maxi said to the cub as he beckoned it to follow him.

There was a lone tree next to a small pond. They didn't go far from their original spot, but having a small break right now is more important, especially for the cub.

They sat on the side of the tree where the shade was blocking the sun. The cub must have been more tired than Maxi thought it was as it fell asleep almost immediately after.

"Huh, I'm taking all of this in so easily. Whatever.."

Maxi sighed. His problem just got more confusing after meeting with the cub, yet he's doing so well right now.

"....."

He glanced to his right hand, he's still gripping them so tightly.

Maxi had posted his story online, but the original work was inside his notebook.

It was a lot thicker than when he first had it. He had to stick in more pages so that he can make the story longer. He didn't understand why he didn't just bought a thick, blank book and wrote his story there. It seemed more easier to have just done that than spending an hour just to staple paper in his notebook. But he honestly didn't care. He also had drawn illustrations of some characters and a few other things to get a more clearer image of what they looked like. It's mostly the reason why he recognized the Glacier Hound cub almost immediately rather than thinking it was an alien of some sort.

Also, why didn't he just gave his work to a publisher and made copies so he can make profit instead of posting them online?

He was a really stupid person. But again, he didn't care.

The mechanical pen was the only thing he used when he was writing on his notebook, he simple refilled its ink so he doesn't bother buying one.

'I only open my notebook when I'm just copy pasting the contents on the internet. But it wouldn't hurt to read some of it.'

Maxi never really had time to actually read from it since its contents were too thick and big. He only read it when he was simply re-writing it on his laptop.

A slight wave of nostalgia hit Maxi, it's already been a few years since he filled the final pages of his work, and not even once did he glanced back at his finished work.

He hesitated a bit before slowly opening his notebook, memories flashing in his mind briefly, making him stop for a few seconds before resuming again.

He opened it, and-

".........huh?"

The first page was empty, no traces of ink were seen.

Maxi was shocked for what seems to be the third time, he was sure that he wrote something there right?

He flipped to the next page, and the next one, and again and again, each time he does so, his expressions fear and confusion grew larger and larger.

A few minutes has passed before he reached the final page..

"...W-What the hell?"

His hands were shaking, it looked as if he was about to drop the notebook he was holding.

His reason of fear being:

....The notebook was empty.
