Rose is your average teenager living in New Singapura, save for one factor: the alter ego. Thanks to her alien salamander symbiote bonded with her in both body and mind, she dons can transform into the Salamander, New Singapura's first and only superhero. But being a superhero isn't all mad villains and tyrants: it's managing a daily existence. As she struggles with her daily life and heroism, a world paranoid and resentful over her will force her into challenges she isn't ready for. Maintaining friendships and love when you live a double life, having loved ones unknowingly hate you and dealing with internal turmoil that comes with sacrifice - this is not just the reality of the Salamander, it is the reality of Rose's. When the dust settles, the question won't be if she wins a fight, but if she does the right thing. Being super is easy, being a hero much harder. Written as a love letter to all superheroes who inspired hope into me, in particular a certain boy scout and webhead. Story uses Singaporean vernacular or Singlish during dialogue segments! Please don't be afraid to look up any unfamiliar words! This story may at some point contain mature themes like mentions of attempted suicide, terrorism and gender-based violence. Though I nor this work condone those things, I understand it may be too intense for certain readers. I will mention when a chapter will contain those themes so you can prepare for it.
