Chapter 6

Ever since that day, the children kept bothering Nicolus about wanting to find out what was in the abandoned sewers. It didn't help that rumors didn't wink out but kept increasing.

From an unknown fae, it had turned into harmless prankster since it had ran away from anyone it had encountered or that was what the rumors said. It only stole food that was left out in the open every time it appeared so people weren't obliged to do anything about it, especially since it wasn't winter and food wasn't expensive and couldn't be kept for a long time.

"I keep telling you guys that it is dangerous. Why don't you understand?" Nicolus said to the three children who kept bothering him. Elam, Ozzy and Khai were there names. Elam had dirt-blond hair and was 10 year old and was white-skinned while both Ozzy and Khai were brown-skinned with black hair.

All three of them were too adventurous for their own good.

"We play there everyday and nothing happened to us, why would something bad happen to us only because we went a little further in?" Elam asked as the boys representative.

'That... Is a good, if a bit faulty, piece of logic', Nicolus thought as he looked at them.

'This is not good...anymore and they will just go ahead and do it'

There was another option of just telling Bronson about what they were planning to do but the poor guy was already busy enough without having to worry about what the children were doing in their play time.

He had to personally solve this problem.

"Don't you think the only reason nothing has happened is because you never ventured far enough from the entrance?"

Correction, he was not alone in this. Serina was always beside him to lecture the adventurous trio and since she had been doing that for a long time, her words had quite an effect. But he knew this couldn't go on like this. Even Albedo was curious about what exactly was in the abandoned sewers and although he hadn't voiced Nicolus he wanted to go there as well since he had a nice friendship with the trio.

'As expected, it came down to something like this' Nicolus sighed as thought.

"Alright, I will give my permission to do this" Nicolus.

"NIc! what are you saying!" Serina admonished him.

"-But only on the condition that we are going to go with you as well" Nicolus ended his statement as Serina gaped at his audacity. until right now, he was stopping them from doing the thing he now wanted to be part of.

Serina just stood there as if she was processing it then opened her mouth in outrage.

"Nic! You are supposed to stop them, not go along with them!"

After listening to Serina sermon him for half an hour and then convincing her that besides telling we didn't have any options and it was then those guys growing impatient and trying to do something reckless, Nicolus finally got down to preparing for their trip to to the sewers.

"That should do it!" Nicolus exclaimed as he wiped the sweat off his forehead

Scrounging around orphanage he had found some things which might be useful to have down in the sewers.

First on the list were some handmade face-masks made from old table-cloths, he had heard that there was a lot of dirt down in the abandoned sewers so to prevent any respiratory diseases he had made them for the trio before and now for himself and others. Then there was an old rope and a kitchen knife which was mostly for threats rather than an actual weapon and an oil lamp to light thier way down in the sewers. He also had some snacks for the children if they were going to be hungry or bored.

With all the preparations done, they gathered in front of the orphanage. The people going were Nicolus, Serina, Albedo, Khai Ozzy and Elam. The adventurous trio brought the less adventurous trio to the entrance in the sewer they used. They removed the lid on the unused pothole and slowly lowered themselves into the sewers.

As soon as they got down Nicolus noticed this place had dirt, a lot of dirt and the tracks on it were everywhere evident that the children played here quite a bit but since they were only spread the area visible from the light pothole above it seems they had kept their promise.

'I still hope it is something harmless' Nicolus thought as he lighted up the lamp

"Okay! Everyone follow behind me and stay in a place where the light from the lamp can reach you, if you find anything tell, everyone else!" Nicolus spoke in stern to which everyone nodded.

After getting a response from everyone else, Nicolus ventured into the dark abandoned sewers, away from the light of the pothole and children followed him.
