Chapter 5
A week had passed since NIcolus had asked Bronson to teach him how to read write in the common tongue of this world (Basically this world's English.) and all had been going well he supposed.
The morning schedule where he played with the children didn't change much but he did have homework to complete in the afternoon so that decreased some of the time he spent playing with the children.
At night after dinner, He, Albedo and Serina received lessons on how to read and write from Bronson. Something he was always glad to do. He was doing exceptionally well, according to Bronson. The trick to learning a new language was always an environment. Since he already knew how to speak from his memories, he was quickly able to progress in being able to read and write.
And that left only Math, but as a former resident on Earth in the twenty-first centaury. It would have been a breeze right?
'YOU WISH!'
'You would be think with architecture around here being renaissance at best their Math would be at that level as well but NO. They were ridiculously advanced in Math. Imagine Nicolus' Surprise when Bronson explained Algebra for him. And his mind absolutely exploded when he brought out Logarithm tables.
Upon further questioning, he found that Mages and Alchemists needed advanced Math to complete their spells and concoctions. Bronson said as if this was common knowledge but expressed it was normal for him who lived in the slums to not know about. He further added since they were so helpful, they were than incorporated by Merchants into commerce.
"Now you know why I always stressed you about learning Math"

Bronson had said at that time with proud smile.
The silver lining was that at least the surprise was both ways. Bronson was also astounded at how quickly Nicolus and looked at him like he was some sort of prodigy.
This day went on as usual as the children played till noon and Nicolus had to watch over them as he did his homework which was given by Bronson every night without fail.
This was going on until he saw a trio of children approaching the three of them, the other two naturally being Albedo and Serina. These three he knew, they were the most adventurous, as they played hide and seek in the abandoned sewers of the sewers. The sewers were empty so there was no chance of drowning or getting excessively filthy, so didn't stop them but he made sure that they didn't go to far in since he had some suspicions about it.
It was the perfect place for something shady to happen after all. Although the fact that it was so obvious may have those type of people to reconsider, you could never be more cautious.
"Hey Nic! Are you free from the 'homework' that you said Bronson gave you?" One of them asked came forward and asked.
"I will be soon, why do you ask?" He told them, curious about what they had to say
The trio looked at each other and nodded and they said to Nicolus
"Have you heard stories about how things get stolen in houses near the sewers?" One of them, different from the one who talked before asked them.
"No" He said, subconsciously sitting straighter. He didn't like where this conversation was going.
"People are talking about it! The food in the houses near the abandoned sewer seems to disappear overnight. They say it was the work of fae!" The last of them explained with his voice punctuated by excitement.
'Ah yes, of course Fae existed here' Nicolus sighed inwardly knowing what they were going to say next.
"So we wanted to say we want to search for-"
"Absolutely Not!" Nicolus interrupted what they were going to say next.
'Jeez! Can't they be more cautious. It wasn't even exactly what down there was exactly a fae, it could be anything else like a thief or maybe a fae, but the not the kind fairy but the more dangerous variety of them ' Nicolus inwardly said to himself. It was good that the children recognized them as leaders since both him and Serina were older than other children here, if they went without asking for permission it would have been disastrous.
"But-"
"No But's there, you are not, in any conditions, to go in the sewers more deeply. it is highly dangerous and I will tell Bronson if you do so". Serina added her own share of words as well which caused the children to sigh dejectedly and go away from them.
They then started to dejectedly play and kept giving us mean looks but it didn't change our stance on this.
"They are reckless aren't they" Albedo said with a sigh
Nicolus and Serina nodded in agreement.
