Chapter 4 - Abilities
I lean forward from my throne and tell my people “We have a situation. I will need everyone’s cooperation to deal with it.” I see Archer is making a fuss by raising her hand trying to get my attention. I look towards her.
“Umm so boss!! Umm what do ya mean?” says Archer wagging her tail and acting excited. Is she stupid? I reply “I was getting to that Archer. Anyway it seems we or should I say my entire home has been transported to another world.”
Aside from Saber the other NPCs are looking at one another confused. I do not particular blame them since I am in a similar situation. “What we need to do first is gather information. After that we can decide how to proceed.” I said cautiously since I do not know if the NPCs will follow my orders since they are living beings now and not just automated AIs.
“Ok boss!” -Archer
“Affirmative master.” -Saber
“I’m with you chief.” -Rider
“Yes leader!! Let’s go forth and fear no darkness!!” -Caster
“…………………………” -Assassin
Those are the replies I get from all my NPCs. I sigh in relief that they are willing to follow my orders at least for now. I got to move cautiously and quietly until I understand my predicament. Even if I became a so-called god it does not mean I have truly become powerful. It could all be a trick or a game by the higher powers. Especially considering I was transported to another world and even my NPCs became alive. Whatever is working behind the scenes worry me.
“Archer since you are a ranger. I will need you to go outside and check the forest around my mountain. Use the skill [Wide-Scan] to see if any living beings are nearby.” -Dasas
“Gotcha boss. I’ll be right on it.” -Archer.
Then I look to Assassin and tell her “Assassin I will need you to assist Archer and watch her back. Be sure to use stealth to prevent any sneak attacks from a possible enemy.” Assassin just nods so I take it she understood my orders and will carry them out properly.
As the two were about to head out. I let them know if they encounter any living beings they are not to attack unless it is in self-defense. If a fight does break out then it is a must to capture the target and not kill, since they will be needed for information extraction. Also, I tell them to be vigilant. If a problem arises and they are unsure what to do then just retreat. When Archer and Assassin left the mansion to gather info I turn to Saber.
“Saber your job will be to guard the front gate at the entrance to my mountain. Caster will assist as support.” -Dasas
“Understood master.” -Saber
“A new world and a new darkness is upon us. Ahh my eye!! It aches for our future.” -Caster
All I can do is nod at them and say “fumu” a gesture I learned from some Japanese light novel. A story I read long ago about a dragon reborn into a human. As a dragonoid it seem like an appropriate gesture to mimic. Trying to make myself sound wise and majestic.
Now I am left alone with Rider. The only male NPC of my crew since Saber and Caster should be going to guard the gate. There is an awkward atmosphere between us, since I am unable to think of anything to say. That is when I remember I want to try out and see if I could transform into a wyvern. I tell Rider we should head out to the courtyard and test our abilities. So it is male bonding time!
Rider and I head out to the courtyard. It is connected to the side of my mansion and is just a dirt plot of land the size of a football field. I wanted to make a luxurious garden with fountains and such but I was busy working on my god class weapon, so I never got around to it. It was probably for the best since now we can test our abilities here without destroying anything.
I look back at my mansion I designed after the palace of the Forbidden City located in mainland China. Unlike the one in the Forbidden City which is dull colored having weathered the times giving it much history. My mansion is new looking with bright red walls and with a dark green tiled roof.
The mansion looks pretty big having four floors. From afar it looks more like a castle than a mansion. There is a ten feet high stone wall surrounding the entire top of the mountain. The size of three football fields and is big looking in reality compared to when it was inside the game.
At the center of the courtyard I tell Rider we should be good enough here to test our abilities. Test if they work in this new world. Rider agrees and then summons his beast pet the 170cm tall dark purple sabertooth tiger and damn it looks ferocious in reality compared to in-game. An actual living beast is so much more intimidating compared to one created with pixels.
Seeing the huge beast. I wonder if Rider is actually able to ride on it. I tell him “Fumu, with that size maybe you can ride it.” Rider looks at me a little shock and then says “Hmm I’ll give it a try chief.” So Rider gets onto his pet and looking at from the angle where I am standing. He looks like a savage barbarian.
Royal Road is the home of this novel. Visit there to read the original and support the author.
He is struggling to ride it. Maybe he needs more practice or maybe a saddle will help. Sadly, I can’t make one since my craft is not leathercraft. Probably best not to use his pet as a mount anyway. Even if his name is Rider, but I’ll leave it up to him to decide.
Now it is my turn test my abilities a bit. Since I am unsure how I can transform into a wyvern without clicking on the game menu. I’ll just do it from the menu like I am used to. Later I can figure out how to do it without the menu. I brought up the game menu and click the transform option on my ability’s list. That is when I am engulfed in some sort of light and next thing I know my line of sight is higher than before.
Seems the transformation into a wyvern works in this world and damn it is weird feeling to be one for sure. What I notice first is how my mouth or should I say snout is outstretched in the front of my face. I look down to see the brown scales of my front legs with its sharp looking claws at the end. Looks like it can rip a man apart like butter.
I also have leathery bat-like wings growing out my back. Feels like I have two extra limbs, and I am unsure how to control them properly at the moment. In the game wyverns were always grounded and never flew. Testing if I can fly now might be bad. Not to mention I am afraid of heights, so flying will have to wait.
My wyvern transformation is unable to breathe fire or use magic like other dragons. A demi-human evolution game trait that make it feels like a gimmick. The transformation to beasts for the advance races of demi-humans are pretty useless aside from looks. I can only attack like a regular beast would. My wyvern form can only bite and attack with my limbs.
Aside from being able to transform into a badass looking beast it is overall useless. I am stronger in my human form. I transform back into my human form and stretch in relief. Standing on four legs felt very different and weird compared to two. I see Rider is still trying to get use to riding his pet. He really wants it as a mount. Maybe he has the mentality of a biker because he sure could pass off as one. All he need is a beard.
What I should test next? Maybe my job abilities. I have to learn to survive in this world so knowing the extent of my powers is a must. At the moment I can’t use any attack abilities without a target. For now I will just summon my spirit avatars and check them out.
I take out my new god class staff Khatvanga from personal storage and get ready for the summoning action. I call forth my wind spirit. A green transparent harpy emerges from the intricate designed green magic circle. The wind spirit is hovering three feet off the ground near me.
The spirit seems to be unable to speak and just quietly floats there. Even with a humanoid shape it does not mean it can talk. It has a female form but covered in transparent green feathers with bird claws for hands and feet. The head is covered with feathers but there is a human-like face showing. There is no mouth only red eyes with no pupils. Since there is no attack target I can use my pet on. I dismiss it.
My main job class is summoner but my support job is monk. The reason is I never bothered to level up another support job. I started out the game as a monk and when it reached level fifty. I went and unlocked summoner. I switched to summoner and placed monk as a support job and never looked back. Pet jobs being unpopular for parties and alliances in boss monster fights mean I never had to care about having an appropriate support job for my main job.
Monk being a martial arts class. I wonder if I can fight barehanded. In the game I could not equip monk related equipment or weapons with it as a support job. I wonder if the restriction will carry over to this world. If it does not then I can try getting some hand armor of some sort like metal plated knuckles or something. Either way if I need to attack melee style then attacking with a staff is the safer bet, but it is always good to have a back-up option.
I can’t think of anything else to test at the moment. I can try out other stuff later. No need to do it all at once. I still need to get use to everything. Looking up at the sky it appears night is near. I guess time to finish up and wait for the report from Archer when she returns.
I tell Rider to finish up since we are heading back inside the mansion. Tomorrow is when the adventure will really start. Depending on the info Archer gives. I want to visit the village I saw earlier today.
