11: I Refuse

Inside the meeting room of ROK’s 1st Awakened squad, the atmosphere turned solemn. Their topic was the Mysterious Hero who killed the Last Monsters of Two Gates alone.

“It was unreal captain, I think he caught me instantly,” Na-Young said and this made their eyebrows rise.

“Did you forget to use your skill again?” Da-Eun asked.

“Hey! I am not that forgetful ok. I learned my lesson the first time.” She pouted.

“What was the distance between you two?” Chung-Ae asked.

“About 100 meters or more at all times, you guys have to believe me, I was super careful!” Na-Young said and this gave them an answer.

“So, he is mage type with high Magic Sensitivity,” Da-Eun said but Chung-Ae shook his head.

“To maintain a Search zone of 100 meters and more at all times he’d need at least Rank B Magic Sensitivity. Even then such a task is not viable, the splitting headaches from information overload wouldn’t make it possible for a longer time.” As a mage, he understood that this wasn’t viable, at least not for Do-Yun.

“Even as a sensory type I can’t maintain that level of area coverage for more than two minutes. My brain would fry even if I have a mental fatigue resistance.” Chan-Yeol remembered the day of the incident quite clearly, “That man noticed my gaze from about 400 meters away, so I don’t know what to say.”

“400 meters? Are you sure?” Chung-Ae’s chair went flying. Something like this was beyond his understanding, was he even human?

“Yes, I measured that distance myself afterward. And I still can’t believe it. My max range is 100 meters and I still miss 40 % of the information. It isn’t easy to put a rank on him.” Chan-Yeol sighed.

“Could it be that his class helps him?” Da-Eun herself was a similar case, she got the class Priestess which granted her skills that broke the norm.

“We would think that if his case ended there,” Ji-Hu’s got their attention but soon they turned to the one he turned to, “Baek-Hyeon tell me what you think.”

“W-Well… I don’t think that he has anything to do with sensory or mage classes altogether,” His words didn’t make sense to them because of the evidence shown till now.

So far only Mage and Sensory types were able to notice the skill activation because of the extra skill Magic Sensitivity. No other classes that fell outside of these two defined categories got the skill.

And the reason why he thought that Do-Yun was out of these categories was simple.

“T-The traces left behind Seok-Chon didn’t have any type of elemental use. I found some of the footage that got caught on the CCTV cameras, it was pure physical confrontation.” Baek-Hyeon connected his laptop to the large LED screen in front and played the clips he had gathered beforehand.

“Ah yes, Chung-Ae and I went through the area to look for some clues about his powers, and he also said that there weren’t any elewhachamalit there?” Na-Young turned to Chung-Ae in confusion.

“Absence of Elemental Particles.” Her face brightened up at the correct term.

“What he said!” He chuckled at her unwillingness to attempt that.

“That is why I was sure that he wasn’t a mage at least. A Mage uses the existing Magic Energy to power their spells, that is why there are always lingering traces of the spells.” Chung-Ae leaned into the chair and stretched his arms.

Stolen story; please report.

“Heh. You are just butthurt that someone is better than you at using a skill of your class.” Da-Eun smirked.

“Think what you want.” He didn’t engage with her.

“S-So, do we classify him as a physical type?” Baek-hyeon asked. He didn’t make that decision himself yet even if that seemed like the correct answer.

“That should be the only answer if there are no traces of energy on site even the corpse of the Monster had no traces like Chung-Ae said,” Ji-Hu still felt something was amiss. They have checked all the monsters Do-Yun killed, but they found no use of Magic.

“Yes, when he was in the middle of cleaning up the goblins I focused on him with my eyes. And I found no use of Magic energy in his attacks. They were done by pure physical powers.” And Chan-Yeol’s words drew the stake in further.

‘Mage and Sensory types have definitely shown a trend of low physical stats. Could it be that his sensory abilities are linked to something else?’ It wasn’t easy to conclude what type they should set Do-Yun in. So, for now, Ji-Hu was about to put an end to the discussion and later revisit this when they get more information.

However, Na-Young tilted her head.

“There was some energy on that monster with the big baseball bat though… It was different from the two captain’s super colorful energy, and a lot heavier than Chung-Ae’s light energy… and compared to Da-Eun's soft energy it was more like a more Boom Boom-Type… Hmm? W-Why is everyone staring at me?”

“N-Noona…” Scared for her Baek-Hyeon shrunk back.

“How can she never learn her lesson?” Da-Eun sighed as Chung-Ae waited for a good show.

‘This isn’t good,’ Even Chan-Yeol could feel it.

“Ryu Na-Young…” Ji-Hu’s lips turned into an endearing smile, but it didn’t reach his eyes.

“E-Eh, full name? W-What have I done?” Na-Young looked around but no one could provide a clue to her. To not laugh at the situation took most of Da-Eun and Chung-Ae’s efforts, and Baek-Hyeon was too scared to speak.

“This is the first I heard of this,” Ji-Hu continued with a smile as realization dawned on Na-Young’s face.

“I thought everyone could see it?” Her words met resolute refusal from everyone. Chung-Ae and Chan-Yeol could notice the activation of skill, but there was nothing different about it than the color.

Yet, unaware of her capabilities Na-young saw much more.

“You’re a real interesting one,” Chung-Ae smiled and others nodded.

“Hehe, I am not that special.” Na-Young rubbed the back of her head. That is how she dug herself a deeper hole.

“Ryu Na-Young, for the next week you are to follow ‘Workout set level five’ every single day without fail.” Ji-Hu wasn’t as amused as the rest.

“Wait what? I-I thought I did great?” Na-Young cried.

The Workout sets made by Ji-Hu became a nightmare for everyone in the army, and level five was the worst of them all. Even doing it once a week put their team out of commission for the day, and she had to follow it for a week without missing a day?

“If you fail a day I will add another 3 days to the duration,” Ji-Hu added.

“Please no, Captain! I’ll Die! Pwease!!” Na-Young and her protests goth blocked because of the barrier. She banged on the barrier to go near Ji-Hu but it was useless.

“Leaving that aside, we will make contact with him tomorrow morning. Baek-Hyeon you have the address, right?” He asked.

“O-Of his house or the gym?” Getting his hands on Do-Yun's whereabouts didn’t take a lot of effort for him. All he did was look through the CCTV cameras to follow his movements, similar to what he did for his battle in Seok-Chon.

“You said the Gym is in an inactive area, right?”

“Y-Yes, it would be better to meet him there. He arrives at the Gym at 9 in the morning and leaves at 7 in the evening. Aside from the owner, no one enters the area.” Baek-Hyeon showed video footage as Ji-Hu nodded.

“It is decided then, you all can return to your duties.” That ended the meeting as a crying Na-Young was carried out by Da-Eun and Chung-Ae.

If she continued to do this her punishment would get increased again.

‘So far we couldn’t distinguish between energies unless the user told us about it. Like Da-Eun’s changed stat Divine Power and Chung-Ae’s Mana stat. Does her class give her a different skill?’ Chan-Yeol didn’t remember seeing anything about Na-Young’s class or skills included in the files.

‘Could it be that Colonel concealed that information?’ His gaze turned to Ji-Hu.

“I didn’t,” Chan-Yeol looked shocked but Ji-Hu wasn’t bothered.

“I know it is a hard pill to swallow but I didn’t know. Regardless of that, you should go rest. We have an important mission tomorrow.” Ji-Hu said.

“You don’t mean…?” Chan-Yeol didn’t expect this turn of events.

“Rather than two unfamiliar faces, it would be better if there is one familiar one. Don’t you think?”

“I suppose.” Chan-Yeol understood that Ji-Hu was serious about Do-Yun’s recruitment.

But there was one big issue…

“I refuse.”

The person in question didn’t want to have any part in it.
