"For fuck sake"
William gripped his belly as he stared hatefully at himself in the mirror. When was he going to start taking his life seriously?
Just how much punishment and suffering must he put himself through before he gets it into his thick skull that he needs to change?
When will he start taking those uncomfortable but necessary steps to improve his life?
"haaa" he sighed and began getting ready for work. "Maybe today will be different"...
It was not...
For William, the expression "same shit different day" seemed to be particularly apt at this point in his life.
He worked a job he didn't care about, dealing with customers he didn't care about, working with people he also.... surprise... didn't care about.
In turn, his colleagues also had the same apathy.
Well, everyone except for his boss, who seemed to take particular pride in being the most spectacular nobhead, William had ever met.
It was as if 53-year-old store manager Dave, had made it his life mission to piss William off. They both had multiple arguments a day due to Dave's ability to be such an enormous dick.
Anyway, nothing unusual there.
The next day William found himself standing in front of the mirror, with the same hateful stare, feeling the same spiteful emotions and thinking the same negative thoughts as usual. The venom inside of him had got to the point where he felt like he could strangle himself.
"Why do I continue to put myself through this bullshit?"
He sighed, "Typical"... and in typical William fashion, he got dressed, ignored his building frustration and headed out the door to work.
"Maybe today will be different..."
However, as usual. It was not... Same shit different day...
This continued...
2 months later ... Same old shit...
4 months later ... Same old shit
8 months later ... Same old shit
1 year later ... Same old shit
After 2 years of the same old bullshit job, same old bullshit "friends", same old bullshit circumstances and to be honest, the same old bullshit excuses, William had finally had enough.
The day that finally broke him started like any other, with William looking in the mirror, staring at himself with hate, mentally ripping himself into pieces.
He got ready and went to work. His boss gave him a hard time and William gave him as much grief back as he could.
However, though everything seemed like it was the same that day, there was 1 thing that was different.
Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.
He served one customer who actually, for once, he did care about. Even if he'd never admit it.
He served his ex-girlfriend...
She didn't really say anything to him, they didn't even exchange so much as a greeting, nothing like that. But, when he served her, their eyes locked.
At that moment he saw something... Pity and disgust...
That is what sent him over the edge.
When he left work that day his mind was a mess, his emotions chaotic.
When he got home he tried to do his same old routine, playing video games with his mates but he just couldn't get into it.
He liked competitive first-person shooters and was rather good at it, but that day he won no matches and hardly got a kill.
He went to bed frustrated and defeated and as he drifted off to sleep he remembered the look in her eyes before everything turned to black.
He slept poorly that night. The next morning he was up by 5 am.
5 am William stood in front of that damned mirror and looked into the face of the bastard that had tormented him for the past few years of his life. Finally, William snapped.
Strangely enough, everything went calm, and his mind became clear.
He made his decision.
Immediately he phoned his boss and quit work. The conversation was short and as his boss tried to get more out of him, eventually he just ended up telling him to fuck off, as he knew that'd end it for sure. Besides, he'd been wanting to say that to Dave for years.
After that, he went downstairs and emptied his cupboards, his fridge and his freezer. He dumped all of that food into the bin outside.
For a moment the thought that it was wasteful crossed his mind but at this point, he was so overwhelmed he stopped caring about that.
He needed to do something drastic and quitting work, starving himself as well as ripping out his gaming system was the best thing he could come up with.
After that, he put some shorts on, a T-shirt and his old trainers that had barely been worn. He then left the house.
At 5:30 am, he began to run...
William ran until his feet bled and he was on the verge of passing out.
It was then something strange happened...
He looked around realising he didn't know where he was, he'd ran through some of the local woodlands and had gotten lost.
Before he could get his bearings, his body started to fail him and his vision blurred.
As the darkness claimed him, he looked up, though his body was battered and bruised he noticed something.
In that moment, all the stars in the bright sky above, the divine beacons, companions which he'd never been without suddenly disappeared.
For a moment, the world stood still.
The sky, absent of any celestial activity became a canvas of the abyss.
Before he had time to react... he lost his vision and fell down.
William passed out.
