Dying of?

Emily sat with the dying man’s head on her lap. Blackened skin covered the whole of his body making his features unrecognisable.

Thankfully, as soon as that wave of strange energy passed over him those awful sinister flames were extinguished.

When the energy had washed over her she’d felt a small sense of positivity from it, hopefully that meant it was some kind of good energy? She didn’t really know, things were so confusing at the moment.

As soon as the spiders had vanished she’d rushed forward to seek him out.

“What was taking the other two so long and what was going on?!” she thought to herself urgently

Last night before any of this had happened, the stars had disappeared.

Who knows what had happened to them? Only a few of them coming back.

Then this morning, gross, evil rat-sized spiders had attacked the three of them whilst they were out camping. They’d just gotten up to cook breakfast on a portable stove and then the nightmare began, hairy, biting shadowy monsters with festering wounds and green drool rushed out from a sinister, unnatural, crack that had suddenly opened up in the ground.

And then just as the nightmare had begun Adam started to use some kind of strange blue....power?

She shook her head.... trying and failing to stop her thoughts and focus on present.

Just as things were at their worst a meteorite in the shape of a man came crashing into the spiders battering and burning them.

“ I mean what was going on?!” She shouted in her mind

“Even Adam... ADAM of all people was shooting blue energy from his fingertips and battling monsters!

Speaking of Adam, what was taking him and her sister so long??! “

Before she could turn around to check on them, the burnt man’s body stirred.

His breath was so shallow!

Maybe she could do something to help?

She repositioned herself, laying his head softly on the ground, moving to put her ear on his chest.

Though it was shallow she could definitely hear him breathing...

“At least he’s breathing... for now” Emily spoke to herself, the last two words lingering darkly in the air...

The skin on his body was scorched and the reaction to all the pain had caused him to faint still occasionally writhing in agony even whilst unconscious.

Inward a strange feeling caught her attention. She didn’t know why, especially with all this madness going on... magic blue powers... sinister flames.... evil zombie-spiders made of shadows...

For some reason... like she’d felt many times in the past... she just... felt like she was supposed to be here.

Perhaps this time the feeling was stronger than ever...

She’d always been a friendly and warm child, getting along with everyone, remembering to show kindness to others at all times. But she was also stubborn as a mule, if she wanted something she made sure to go after it.

Especially when at times as a child, she’d get this strange feeling that she’d been born to do something great...

No one else around her seemed to have that same feeling, though as they didn’t really give much thought to how they could become great in their own way...

As she grew older her beauty started to show itself... Naturally curly, deep ginger hair grew lush and long. Her body changed too, and though it remained rather slim and small, she did gain some womanly curves... even if they were on the smaller side....

Her sister Amber loved to tease her about that...

The freckles on her skin complimented her wonderfully so her mum told her and it must have been true because she’d had many people show interest in her over the years.

Though some things changed as she grew older, that feeling of being born for something great never did... in fact, it only deepened.

Now at the age of 19, she’d fully accepted that feeling and though she didn’t know what it was exactly she was meant to do, she’d been working hard studying and growing herself as a person so that one day when she found out what it was, she was ready.

And she had absolute that she’d figure it out...

As her thoughts momentarily went introspective, trying to figure out what the feeling she had inside of her was trying to tell her, the burnt man’s body started to... hum?

A strange sensation started to grow within her, accompanying that sense of being needed at this moment...

If she did her best... perhaps she could help?

Strangely enough, she felt like things would work out.

As she focused on the man, she started to FEEL the humming, it felt like some sort of electric static. It tingled her skin and caused her to become a little bit nervous...

Forcefully quelling the anxiousness, she closed her eyes and continued to focus on the feeling inside of her and the sound of the humming...

As she lay there, listening to the man’s chest below her, the electric energy she felt began to shift and change...

Multiple humming feelings burst out from him at once, creating a strange symphony of vibrations...

At first, it sounded beautiful to her; she could feel a strong and passionate will to survive mixed with that strange “good” energy she felt from the wave earlier. They crashed into each other, merging, creating a perfect union of energy that felt like a warm encouraging spirit, one that would never give up, one that could fix any problem...

Firstly, she was impressed by the motivation she felt, such a strong, deep desire to live and survive. She couldn’t help but respect it, life was for living after all...

She’d became even more impressed by the change of the new emerging union of energy. She didn’t know how he’d managed to trap some of that strange positive energy inside of him but, however it had happened. She could feel that the union of these two positive forces started to heal him from the inside out.

She had no idea how she was feeling these sensations within his body...

She hoped with all her heart, that this...miracle?... Yes it was certainly a miracle!... would save the man in front of her...

As his burns started to heal and his body started to restore itself... scorched black skin, damaged by menacing fire started to turn into smooth pale skin, pristine without any blemishes.

Suddenly she felt a second type of energy and then, before she could sense exactly what it was she felt something awful shake her spirit... a third baleful type of energy.

The flicking impressions she managed to get before had been pure and honest. This new type of energy though, it was foul and evil...

She could feel it shredding through his body, like a injured beast, wailing, determined to take their attacker down with them...

Thick dark black hair started to grow from his head and face some small flecks of silver and blonde peppering the colour...

The man’s body beneath her started to whistle and change... steam coming off of it...

On instinct Emily opened her eyes, facing the young man and placed her hand flat on his chest, just above his where his heart would be...

She could feel it... the pain...

it ached so deeply inside of him, it felt like an endless pit.

Each heart beat, slow and heavy, throbbing in agony as the sinister energy ran rampant throughout his body....

The pale smooth skin started to prickle slightly in areas, forming a scar over his chest. It turned the almost beautiful, smooth appearance he had into one that was rough and even crude in areas...

Thick muscles rippled throughout his body as he convulsed...

As that hate-fuelled energy ravaged his body, it made its demands clear..

Change.

“It wanted him to Change? To change or.... die?!” The words echoed in her mind

Though she felt it all, the pain, the agonising desire, the loneliness and that toxic pride wounded so badly the shame had turned the man against himself.

She forced her mind closer....

Shifting her legs to a more stable position, she pressed her hand down harder; her focused attention and curiosity became relentless. It was as if she was trying to pierce his soul with her mind alone...

Unsure why she felt the way she did. Why even despite that repulsive, corrupting evil energy within him. Even though the immensity of the emotions made her want to vomit... to run away... she couldn’t help but be drawn closer and closer towards him.

She remained...

Unmoving, undeterred...

As stubborn as a mountain.

Even as hellish flames started to lick her fingertips.... slowly crawling up her fingers like evil snakes...

At that moment, she pressed so deeply on the man’s chest she was sure she’d injure him...

Then, suddenly... the man responded...

....

William writhed in pain...

As the war inside him had almost finished, the third energy reigned supreme. It forcibly conquered the other energies, stealing chunks of their power and forcing the remnants to retreat, deep down within him. On the brink of collapse once more, he felt unimaginably wary. For a moment he’d managed to gain true power and strength, only to have it all consumed by his own warped sense of hatred that ate at everything it touched...

Almost falling into despair as the gravity of his betrayal finally hit him... how he’d not only betrayed the expectations of those he cared about, the world of opportunity he’d been born into but worst of all... The one who’d never forgive him. He’d betrayed himself.

The emotional agony gnawed a hole through his heart. It so bad he felt like he’d actually physically damaged something inside of him.

It was then he felt something...

A presence...

Suddenly, with vicious determination, the victorious within him stopped its “just” crusade and immediately bore through him towards the presence... the pressure on top of his chest.

As the sluggish energy turned to flames it began eating its way through him, determined to destroy the intruder.

However, the presence remained.

It was like a boulder, unmovable... heavy...

Then... it dawned on him...

“Who was?...”

“WAIT!” William screaming in his mind!

His eyes snapped open, his head jerking forward causing him to almost smash face to face into the intruder...

Instinctively he reacted. His head painfully lurched to a stop hoping to avoid crashing into the two large, clear and honest eyes that stared at him.

Their gaze bored into his own eyes and through them into his heart or perhaps even his soul. There was an expectation in them... he felt like a mountain of responsibility had dropped on his shoulders.

Like a heavy task had been given to him, something he’d have to dedicate his entire life to fulfil...

Yet, strangely enough...

William who had lived without responsibility for his entire life.

A boy who’d played video games and watched TV for most of his time on this planet...

He didn’t mind it...

As the two faces stared at each other, one clearly winning the exchange, the other struggling to hold onto the moment, a light breeze brushed past them both.

William’s sensitive skin felt the entirety of the gentle wind and the reality of what his senses sunk in...

HE WAS...!!

As Williams's head dropped to look upon his body, before he could address his concern his gaze was drawn to the pressure he felt on his chest...

A small, defiant hand lay pressed heavy into him. Its beautiful pale smooth skin, had been corrupted and cracked by evil energy. Fingers blackened at the tips, flames still roaming upwards threatening to devour more...

In that moment Williams's body moved with speed and power unknown to him.

He clasped on the hand forcefully baring the flames and pitted his will against them.

There was absolutely no fucking way he was going to let them hurt anyone else!

He didn’t give a shit if those flames ate him alive but there no chance in hell anyone else was going to suffer because of him!

Especially her... whoever was in front of him...

As he tried to stop the flames the hatred inside of him burned hotter. All the energy at once rushed to one point seeking to destroy his heart. He couldn’t describe the feelings he felt after hurting this girl...

Urgently, His head quickly raised again, painful shame displaying itself....

Then as their eyes met again... He saw her face...

The stubborn, confident girl that had woken him was no longer there. Instead of those strong brown eyes that had a pull as strong as planets. He saw two shy and meek chocolate buttons...

Her face...

A bright red blush painted the cheeks of the pretty girl, her pale white skin and cute freckles making the sight all the interesting. The blush was so prominent it was like a cartoon.

In his stupor the hate-fuelled power inside of him lost all its force, all negative emotions ceasing completely.

“Why was she..?” he thought...

Her eyes glanced down, lingering for a moment then rapidly back up, the blush intensifying.

It was then, with absolute that his senses returned shouting into his mind; once again reminded him of his current situation....

The breeze that continued to brush along his sensitive skin... it was cold....

“WAIT WAIT WAIT!!!”

This wasn’t happening...

This time not only the sensation of wind rushed back into his mind but also the weight on top of him...

“SHE WAS...!” he couldn’t take it....

He daren’t look down... he tried to hold her gaze again to try to silently tell her something... anything...

She looked back at him but a few moments into the embarrassing gaze her body started to shift under the awkwardness....

William’s mind reeled...

“SHE WAS GOING TO LOOK, THIS GIRL... SHE WAS GOING TO LOOK!...

...AGAIN!!”

.....

.....

“HAHAHA” A wheezing uncontrollable laugh billowed out in the distant void...

“These two!” Ambulous couldn’t contain himself.
