Chapter 5 - My New Life
Learning a language is hard. Without having a reference or learning materials, figuring out a language just from hearing it is basically imposible. Just through the effort of my new parents speaking to me like you would to a normal baby was I finally able to really start learning.
A good thing about this new language is that it's mainly a phonetic language, similar to German or Korean. This is very useful, since learning to read and write is way easier if you can convert from spoken word to written word through simple rules. Additionally, way less momorization is required as phonetic languages usually have a very small alphabet to construct words from.
Because of this, it didn't take me long to learn how to read. Learning to write was quite easy as well. Although I couldn't really practice with pen and paper for obvious reasons, I practiced by manipulatimg mana to form letters and words.
During the almost two years I've spent in this world already, I've learnt a lot of things. Though I'm saying two years it's only been one year in this world. As the sun doesn't have the orange tint I'm used to and instead shines with a more blueish note, the habitable zone is farther away from the star itself. As a result of this, the distance this planet has to travel around the sun is way larger than earth's orbit around the sun. Eventhough the planet travels faster than earth when compared, it still takes almost twice as long to completely go around once.
I also learned a bit about this place I was born into. Apperently we are currently living in the outskirts of a medium sized city pronounced Lagos in the east of the Avongale Kingdom. As a Kingdom Avongale is ruled by the royal family carrying it's name as last name. Apparently, having a last name is kind of a big deal in this world, or at least in this kingdom. Thats why I don't have one. It functions like a title, as a symbol of status.
Because my parents have very little books in thier house, I don't really know much about what's around the kingdom. I wish they had more books.

Also, about this whole "system" charrade. Although not a topic in the books my parents own, I've made some discoveries. For once, gaining a [skill] is apparently insanely hard. people often have to spend years doing certain activities to gain skills from it. My father has been working as a carpenter for over 15 earth years and barely reached [Carpentry Lv. 3] recently. My mother has been tailoring since she was a child and aquired [Tailoring Lv. 4] only last year.
Furthermore, the knowledge of Mana seems to be almsot nonexist, at least for normal people. Until now I have yet to sense anyone actively manipulate or use mana before. Although I can sense the skills people like my mother use passively consume mana to enhance the results, nobody seemed to be aware of how skills actually worked.
Traditional monsters, like e.g. goblins or wolves also seem to be missing in the context of this world. Although I can't possobly confirm their nonexistence in this word, at least there are no common monsters being present in the knowledge of average people like my parents. The only thing coming remotely close would be commonplace legends told everywhere. Stories of legend like monster being spotted appear here and there, but they mostly seem like ungrounded fiction.
In the two earth years I spent here, I've also been improving steadily. My full Status Page now looks like this:
[Noel]
[Space Magic Lv. 0]
[Space Sense Lv. 0]
[Space Affinity Lv. 0]
[Mana Heart Lv. 0]
[Mana Core Lv. 1 -> 4]
[Mana Sense Lv. 4 -> 5]
[Mana Manipulation lv. 3 -> 5]
[Mana Conversion lv. 3]
Since I've spent most of my idle time with practicing mana control, the result are rather expected. [Mana Core] has risen in level simply by increasing it's capacity for mana by expanding it. Since I did not find anything interresting to look at with my mana sense, the only thing I've really worked on was increasing my range, which resulted in a single level up.
As for the space related skills I gained, I didn't progress at all. Even with [Space Sense] I can't really sense space? And [Space Magic]. Although it sounds like an active skill, it really isn't. Probably. At least I didn't get it to work. I really tried, I promise.
Also [Mana Heart] isn't leveling at all. Probably because I havent really used it for much. The mana I use on a daily basis is miniscule compared to what is currently stored in my mana core.
My body is still way to young to do the things I want to do right now. I will probably have to endure a lot more time before being able to explore more of this world.
Maybe I should find myself a hobby I can work on?
