School trip

The day of the school trip.

Isabela was so excited. She had spent the past days studying about the creatures that could be found in the sector. Since she couldn’t afford a lot of recording crystals, so she needed to be sure of what she was going to get.

The creatures in Fairy Meadow specialized in status effects and healing. There was only one creature with combat potential and it was difficult to find.

“Is everyone ready?” Instructor Nazaria shouted, her voice reaching the whole portal bay.

Since the portal bay was under the ownership of Sygard Academy, they had no trouble reserving over half the portals for the school trip.

“Remember. Do not hesitate to recall if you feel that your life is in danger,” Nazaria warned. “You may not be able to die, but the experience will haunt you.”

Isabela flinched at the warning. She had heard about people that died in Carrion and was reduced to a former shell of who they once were back here. Being crushed under a foot of a creature, being eaten alive, being ripped to pieces, and countless more horrid ways to die.

“The portal bays are open,” Nazaria announced and the class began stepping onto the platforms and disappearing.

Isabela closed her eyes as she was transported into Carrion. She felt a warm and humid breeze as she opened her eyes, finding herself in a giant open field surrounded by flowers and a few floral trees.

“It’s so beautiful,” Isabela muttered.

When she glanced up, she noticed a giant bird circling in the sky. She could barely see the silhouette of a person on it. In the distance, she also spotted more giant birds flying.

“That’s instructor Nazaria’s creatures.”

Isabela jumped in surprise when Alexander Pendragon appeared beside her.

“How did you get here?” Isabela asked.

Even if they all transported at the same time, the portals would send them to different locations within the sector.

“I’m fast,” that was the only answer he gave her. “What creatures are you looking for?”

“Ah,” Isabela took out a small notepad. “My first choice would be a creature called “Lily fairy”,” Isabela answered.

Isabela noticed Alexander become thoughtful for a moment before shrugging. “Never heard of it.”

Isabela sweat dropped.

“Remember what we came here to do?” Michelle turned to Irelia.

Irelia smirked. “Kick some ass.”

Both of them were wearing flexible combat gear and had a bag full of magic scrolls. Neither of them was part of the class participating in the school trip, so they entered through different portal bay.

They had designated a place to meet before beginning to search for the love targets. There were four of them participating, Edward Magenta, Albert Cross, Christoph Crownguard, and Alexander Pendragon.

They only needed to worry about the first three since Alexander Pendragon wasn’t even a potential target in the first scenario. They only needed to worry about the three weaklings.

The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.

“How did they even get into the A class?” Irelia grumbled. “Isn’t there a skill requirement?”

“I guess social status counts,” Michelle replied.

“I would expect Diantha to be here considering her family is part of three families that protect the kingdom.”

“She’s talented in magic, but her mana pool isn’t large enough to keep up with her talent yet,” Michelle explained. “That’s why she’s introduced during the end of the second scenario quest.”

“Anyways, who do we go for first?” Irelia asked, excited for a fight.

“I saw Christoph to the west, but he had a large group with him, so he’ll last a while,” Michelle stated. “Albert would be smart choice since he likes to go off on his own.”

“Roger!” Irelia saluted as they summoned two white horses with horns.

As they were searching for Albert, they heard the sound of an explosion then a squawk of Instructor Nazaria’s summoned creature.

“There!” Michelle turned her unicorn to head to the source of the explosion.

Alexander was bored. Every time he went to Carrion, he would expect something to try and kill him. Creatures, the weather, the environment, and more dangerous aspects of a dimension full of monsters.

But Fairy Meadow had nothing. He lazily watched as small creatures passed by in the grass without a care in the world.

He turned to Isabela who seemed mesmerized by the scenery. He could see the wonder in her eyes as she took in everything.

But as he was admiring her, Alexander sensed the presence of other humans nearby. “Are they starting already?”

If a battle occurred here, it was inevitable for the area to suffer damages. One of the primary laws of Authority was to not cause harm to the world of Carrion. Going against this natural law would result in severe restrictions.

“Do you mind if I step away for a moment?” Alexander asked Isabela.

“It’s alright,” she replied with a smile. “I won’t be far from here.”

Alexander nodded and sped off using his Aura to enhanced his speed. The first thing he spotted were a group of people carrying a large device. Alexander took out an earring and wore it. This was the relic the organizer of the fighting pit he destroyed had.

A relic for appraisal.

Using the relic, Alexander found out that the device the group was carrying was a disruptor that interfered with recalling back to their world. It functioned by redirecting the location where a person arrives back in their world.

“So... that’s the device they’ll use to kidnap the nobles.”

Alexander glanced at the sky, spotting one of Nazaria’s creatures patrolling.

“It’s doable,” Alexander dashed toward the group, decapitating the ones he passed by and torching the rest with magic.

Their bodies turned fragments of light, leaving behind the disrupting device. Alexander approached it and stored in his sub-space. “It’ll come in handy in the future.”

“CAAWW!”

He turned back to the sky to see one of Nazaria’s creatures rushing toward somewhere. It seemed another place was being attacked, but that was the least of his concern.

Alexander shrugged. “If they get the crown prince, there’s more members of the royal family to replace him.”

Alexander’s personal pick was the first princess. A lot more reasonable and brighter mind.

By the time he returned to the area where Isabela was, Alexander noticed that she was in the middle of recording a small tortoise-like creature with a small flower on its back.

“Any chance I could get a primal variant in this place?” Alexander wondered as he activated the appraisal relic on the small creature.

The creature's species was called “Floral Shell”. The fed on flowers to give nutrients to the flower on its back. When the flower bloomed on their back bloomed, it would scatter thousands of seeds.

In terms of abilities, the creature specializes in buffing and healing. It wasn’t strong, but it was a good support creature for beginners.

“That’s your pick?” Alexander asked.

Isabela nodded with a bright smile. “This little one could help in farming.”

Alexander raised an eyebrow. It wasn’t rare for people to use the creatures in Carrion to help in their daily lives, but it was rare for a student of Carrion. As long as you don’t get expelled, simply being a student of Sygard guarantees a bright future. That’s why the students strive to obtain creatures that suit the prestige of Sygard.

“Have you found the fairy you were looking for?”

Isabela nodded again, showing Alexander a pink and green marble. She summoned the creature, revealing a small humanoid creature with butterfly wings and held a lily pad like an umbrella.

There was an explosion in the distance.

“What was that?” Isabela asked in concern.

“That was someone else’s problem,” Alexander replied.
