Chapter 13- The Magic Atom

The Magic Atom - 13

I don’t know about you , but when I awake after a long night reading upon the basics of magic, I find myself a little hungry.

I started the day with toast , half a small loaf of elven bread is always a good choice for the late morning goer. To pair it, a sizzling three bacon nestled into its side and to top it off a cup of orange juice.

With a small burp my face fell into a smile. It was good to have breakfast after not being killed by assassins. I yawned a little happily.

As I finished up my meal I looked over to the pentagon stuck to the wall, a satisfied face leaking out from me. The pentagon stood like it did before, magic emanating from within like a steamy mist, it went fairly strong.

It made me begin to reminisce on my reading last night.

After a little bit of reading I had discovered a thing or two on this happening called magic and the things that went along with it…… well not really , but I knew more than I knew yesterday morning and that counted for something.

To summarize everything in one go , I’d suppose it’d have to be this. ……. Magicians are a little….. off.

For the most part they trace everything back to one true all called the source. The source is in everything, is everything and had been everything forever.

A long time ago in an effort to get even the tiniest glimpse of the source, a group of ten magi sat together, embarking on a great study of the world for twelve days . On the thirteenth day one of them, a great man named Cadavi summoned the first fireball ever cast.

On that day , Magic was born.

The great mage Cadavi must have been quite pompous when he summoned that first fireball I had thought flipping through the page, imagine being the only one who could do magic. Must’ve gave him a big head.

Even if it did , it would’ve been surely deflated , for the ten magi all discovered some sort of magic during the coming days .

The magi took this as a message. They deemed thier meeting the great convening and consolidated and recorded all the thoughts had within a tome the world would come to know.

The grimoire.

All grimoires are named after this one , all grimoires came after this one , and all grimoires diverged from this one . Or so they say.

That last bit was written as a note at the bottom of the page in handwriting slightly different from the rest. One that seemed filled with a mocking undertone.

I could understand why.

I had heard a few different versions of this story since I was a boy . The wise woman had one as well. Albeit less drawn out . So did a splattering of other groups I care not to remember.

The important part of this authors preface is what came after. According to the author one of the ten magi developed a grimoire called the basic units of magic an account of the spirit world In miniature, this would later be broken and diverged from until it became many smaller branches.

Stolen story; please report.

A young genius went against this flow , revolutionizing a new form of the thought again into a book that would stand the test of time for eons.

The Magic Atom

I had scratched my head at that. Magicians had soooo many books.

The author of this book didn’t agree with me apparently because he a man named Freyzo Benim would shorten the subject again , now in easy to understand form for the masses in a book called ,

The grimoire for Magic Conduits and Circuts.

Long explanation right?

It’s why I never cared for magic much myself .

With a plop of water the dishes were dropped in the sink and I was off to wash my face in a basin of water.

“I don’t know why ! But I’m at ease !” Music pumped through my floor from the neighbor below. They had one of those fancy devices that saved sound and played it back. They enjoyed using it. A fact I could be sure of after hearing them every weekend.

I paused and listened to the song. My foot tapping into its rhythm. They had good taste most times, so I let it go.

I opened the rickety bamboo sliding door to my bathroom and smacked the spout on the wall.

It whirred and water shot forth into the basin. The rock shined a shimmering red when water gushed inside from the small silver spout on the wall. The bowl glowed at the waters touch. The water was calm for a while but soon the inside rose to a calm sizzle , then , it stopped , the water appropriately warm.

See , easy to use . I felt kind of partial on the subject of magic, it was boring to read but magic tools on the other hand , I liked magic tools. They just made life easier. I dropped a cloth in the bubbling water then slapped the cloth upon my face , submerging the cobwebs of sleep with steam . In moments I was awake.

It was time to embrace the day.

I dashed about awhile , clothes jumping from the dresser in a few minutes.

my attire you ask ?

A slightly billowing pair of pants and a smooth crisp black shirt that incentivized the eye to look upon the small but ok amount of muscle I had . I flexed . I flexed for a while. A long while .

Then I was off.

My feet in my lizard stone shoes clacked down the street as I thought hopeful thoughts about my day.

I even began to hum.

I made it a street or two before Willow decided to appear . The spirit formed like a tornado of transparent smoke before settling into a circular spirit lazily bobbing up and down.

‘ I see you’re off to court maidens my boy .’

I bobbed up and down getting into the groove of my walk, my thoughts falling into slightly lascivious territory .

‘That’s the plan.

Willow nodded , ‘it’s always good to be confident in oneself. ‘

‘Yup , ‘ I thought with a nod.

‘What about the killer that’s after you, not on your mind. ‘

I mentally shrugged, an act I was getting quite good at , on account of not wanting to appear crazy while talking to a spirit in public.

‘It is what it is. The maidens come first. ‘

‘……..Impressive.’

‘Besides , I’ve got extra beetle fluid , my homes protected and I even got something extra just in case. I’ll be fine.”

Willow looked over me approvingly, ‘How did you get to know that woman, she is quite impressive.’

I thought about it for a while , ‘Can’t you just read my memories?’ My brow raised in curiosity.

Willow was quiet for a while. ‘I could , but I’d rather ask.’

Huh my spirit was having a change of heart.

‘Well ‘ , I began. ‘It’s quite a long story but if ya wanna know I’ll tell ya?’

‘ Continue . ‘

I thought back, my head turning up in remembrance , ‘it all happened two years ago when I just turned 14.’

“Hey! One! Is that you buddy?”

Brovy rounded the corner at the end of the road the cobble stone clacking at his approach. By his side we’re two girls , one with short brown hair and the other with flowing red.

My eyes widened and my hand clenched. My friend had come through , it was time for a date.

Willow yawned. ‘Good luck boy. ‘
