Chapter 11 - Attacked

The Messenger - Attacked!

The man that emerged did so from a shadow. Hollowed calls of the dead went along with his appearance like an evil symphony. The ghostly mist that I saw a whiff of as he came closer gave me the inkling suspicion that he might be coming for my life .

Shling!

A metal scepter left his cloak with its cry of metal for the night to hear .

‘Fuck.’ I had time to think.

He was closer now , close enough for combat to be an option . With a rise of energy I reached into my pocket and pulled out a small beetle shaped device with a singular open top. Awkwardly holding it but back stepping with confidence I clicked the button hidden in its eye.

“Waaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!”

A vibration rang out from the spiraling top of the beetle's head blasting the would-be killer back. Fire flowed in the other eye of the beetle and with a pop flame shot out the top!

“Ahhhhh!!!!!!” The assailant screamed.

“Shit ! '' The hot shell seared my skin . As I recoiled in pain dropping the beetle, the would-be assailant fell away.

‘Who In the world was that ?’ I scooped up the beetle , playing hot potato with the heated metal before stuffing it in my coat. With quick steps I began to jog home.

‘Hey Willow , is there anybody else following me? '

“…….No I think you should be fine . “

My heart was still beating a mile a minute , but now relief began to flood my body as well. I thought clearly about my situation.

‘Who the hell would want to kill me?’

I hadn’t bothered anyone in ages . Like at least years. Two of them . One and a half ? Fuck , a few people . But the time didn’t add up. Plus , no one I knew, could or would hire a hitman to kill me .

No, this had to be recent .

With a err sound a rickety lamp post turned on , lit by the star light it captured via light magic. Its turning on meant that it had gotten late. Most likely it was 7 o’clock or so.

I…. should head home . Assassin or no , I had had a long day , I needed sleep. A sigh left my lips as I began to slow , I would have to call in a favor.

As I approached the North Western district of the city where I called home I had to go through a place called the seven crossroads, a busy intersection of seven streets .

The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.

Even this time a night it was abuzz with carriages . They plagued the city really. Before the roads were paved it had been much easier to traverse , now one was lucky if they left without a splash of mud or two from barreling wheels.

I however , was an expert , I barreled through the busy streets and twisted by the skirting carriages like a fish does the fisherman’s hook. Lightly my toe fell upon a subset district of seven road . A place called galley.

Galley road was awash with light. Star lamps were smacked upon with different color lenses to make low but spiraling colors of light that sprinkled one's business of residence .

It was creative, I thought walking up the avenue .

‘Hey Willow am I still not being followed ?’

‘Nothing I can detect. Of course a more high rate assassin could hide his presence . ‘

‘How does one hide their presence? ‘ I was a bit skeptical, but then again a man had just popped out of a shadow.

‘You wouldn’t understand right now , but in a few words , if you want to hide your presence you have to know what your presence is . ‘

‘…….I guess that makes sense . ‘

‘Oh.’ Willow sounded surprised .

‘You may have the type of demeanor suited for magic. ‘

‘Really? ‘

‘Yes , in fact, I’ve been scanning your body and it seems you were on the cusp even before I entered your domicile . ‘

Domicile huh , what a strange way to say body. “So now that I have you , I’m over the cusp ? “

‘Well over the cusp, I dear say you’d be suited to be a magician now.’

‘Huh I thought, A magic messenger . Sounds cool. ‘

Willow clicked his tongue. If only you could find a big boobed magic teacher to show you magic. This all could go a lot better with some maidens.

“Huh . Well Willow, actually “

“One , you’ve never struck me as the type of young man to talk to your self . “

Just ahead a woman stood below a star lamp, the lamp had the covering of a black cat with a twisted tail , and the stars inside it made it look quite magical indeed .

Fitting , because the shop name that was written above in neat silver font read.

Dana’s Magic Defense Shop

“Hey Dana. “ I said, waving my hand .

Dana wagged her finger through a curtain . Disappearing inside and only leaving her voice behind.

“You’ve come again One , what a naughty boy you are , needing so many of my spells.”

Her voice grew louder as I popped through the curtain .

“You should take better care of yourself . “

‘Woahh! Willow said. You may have potential after all, my boy.

I scratched my head . I could see why he would say that. Dana the magic weapon maker was stunning in the low candle light of her magic shop. With tattoos that ran from her neck to her toes and a tight leather covering that showed off her bountiful assets , she was easily the most beautiful woman I had seen all day.

Also the most dangerous.

Willow didn’t seem to believe me , he went checking for himself , gliding though my memory before coming back with an understanding.

‘Ahhh.’

I knew well what he saw.

A memory of the screams of a burning man going along with Dana’s beautiful smile as she lit him aflame and then her mouth ever so lightly opening and letting out a giggle.

Then Willow said something that I thought would establish our relationship for years to come,

‘Crazy makes for good memories.’
