Chapter 1: The Traitor of the Gods

Dawn breaks on the city of Seinbain of the Kallamore Kingdom. The city had once again defended itself from the nightly monster raids.

“Man, this is exhausting. Where the hell are they all coming from?”

A Royal Kallamore Knight sighed as he finally was able to take a break from hacking away at waves of monsters. Besides him was many of his fellow royal knights, healers, and mages. Not that far away were the holy knights of the Church of Freya being led their holy priests.

“Who knows? For all we know they could be the by-product of spontaneous generation.”

One of his fellow royal knights said with a shrug. In this time period, spontaneous generation had not been disproved by bio-genesis because monsters were constantly appearing out of nowhere. Even though they didn't believe that monsters were being made out of thin air, they could only express skepticism over the unbelievable amounts of monsters that were attacking their kingdom.

“Hey, what’s that over there?”

They all looked over to where the royal archer was pointing at.

“What are you pointing at?”

They asked the royal archer. Unlike the royal archer, they didn’t have extraordinary eyesight that let they see several dozen miles away.

“I’m not sure…”

The royal archer squinted his eyes and tried to focus on it. However, he still could not make it out clearly.

“Eyes of the Hawk!”

Frustrated over being unable to see clearly, the royal archer decided to use a skill to improve his vision. His vision was improved so that he was able to see over a hundred miles away. However, his entire face paled immediately afterwards and his body shook intensely.

“Hey! What’s wrong!?”

His fellow royal knights asked with concern. He tried to open his mouth to speak but he couldn't. After a minute of standing there, he finally regained some of his composure.

“We need to return to the castle immediately.”

“Why? What’s wrong?”

The royal archer walked quickly back into the city.

“If I watch I saw was real, then the entire kingdom is going to be in serious danger.”

“What did you see?!”

The royal knights shouted with confusion. What could it have possibly been to have driven him to finally look so serious after all these years?

“....”

The royal archer paused for a moment before he said.

“It’s…”

***************************************

A man dressed in a robe looked down from the tree branch he was standing on top of.

“Che! This is not good at all. I didn't expect things to escalate this quickly.”

The robed man jumped down from the branch and knelt down onto the floor. As he looked around, there were unrecognizable lumps of meat scattered on the floor. He walked over and touched some of the blood on the ground.

“This is troll blood. The residual mana...its hold divine power.”

Looking around from the amount of carnage, the robed man estimated that at least five thousand trolls had been killed here. Trolls were very strong and had remarkable recovery abilities. With this large a number of trolls, they should not have been annihilated this one sidedly. There was no indication of any other corpses and no signs of internal conflict. This meant that, whoever did this, they did it alone. Pure divine power was different from the borrowed divine power, which meant that a god has manifested.

“It’s as I feared. This could have only be done by a god. So that traitorous god fled to this world after all?”

The robed man had no time to spare. He ripped off his robe and jumped into the air. Although he was flying through the air, he did not have the spell of Levitation that mages had. Instead, two brilliantly white wings had sprouted from his back as he flew through the skies. The light shone off the winged man’s blond hair as he accelerated through the air.

“Time is running out. I hope that I’m not too late.”

He released more mana and accelerated even faster.

**************************************

A few hours before, a single child stood in the middle of the forest. However, though it appeared to be human, the being that stood there was anything but that. The person that stood there was dressed in a black robe with an intricate design, laced with gold thread.

This Darkness God had been summoned to this world by a group of foolish necromancers a few months ago. The necromancers had tried to summon Thanatos, a god of death, but they had improperly performed the ritual. For their arrogance, they were punished with death.

“Those necromancers were ignorant. They didn't even know that Thanatos had already been summoned to this world a long time ago.”

The spell that the necromancers had cast summoned a god from another world into this one. However, if that god already exists in that world then the summoning spell would fail and summon a god with a similar affinity in its place.

“Still, that scum Thanatos is living somewhere in this world. I should find him and kill him later.”

The Darkness God has spent the last few months walking around and exploring this new world. There were a lot of new things to see, such as animals, monsters, nature, and all sorts of things.

“This world is such a strange place.”

The Darkness God sat down on a boulder. It had been quite some time since breakfast. Using magic, food was materialized out of thin air. Although a god with an immortal soul, a physical body required sustenance.

Once lunch was over, the Darkness God got up and headed towards the nearby lake. The young Darkness God sat down near the lake for awhile. Even a Darkness God wanted to relax sometimes.

“What’s this?”

The young Darkness God noticed that something had approached him. It appeared to be a normal bunny.

“How peculiar. To think that a bunny would approach a god of darkness.”

The young Darkness God was amused at the absurdity of the thought. However, the Darkness God decided to leave the bunny alone since it was harmless. The bunny hopped over to the Darkness God, and more small animals came out from the forest near the Darkness God.

“Hehe.”

The young Darkness God laughed.

“If the rest of the gods saw me now, I wonder what they would think about a god of darkness being surrounded by small animals.”

The young Darkness God just sat there, admiring the serenity of the forest.

“Something’s nearby?”

The Darkness God noticed as something approached. All the surrounding animals ran away as well. Since the mood was already spoiled, the Darkness God decided to go find out what was going on.

“Stop running away already and let us kill you.”

“Aren’t we allies? Stop this nonsense!”

A young male knight, around 14 years old, yelled with his sword drawn as he slowly backed away from three large men. Behind his back was a young female priest that was around the same age.

“Stop? Why should we?. We have more Honor and a higher rank than you so it’s perfectly fine for us to kill you as long as we tell the Seinbain officials that it was punishment for disobeying orders.”

The criminal system in Royal Road was not perfect. There were many ways to get around the criminal status effect. Killing other users during war was one of them and killing subordinates was another.

“But that’s enough of that.”

The three large knights surrounded the two of them near the edge of a cliff. The young knight looked around but there was nowhere else to run.

“Che!”

With no other options, he grabbed onto the young female priest and jumped off the cliff. However, before they fell, one of the knights managed to slash at the young knight’s back.

“Damn. He got away.”

“With a fall like that, he probably died though.”

“That’s not the point. I wanted to see if we could loot his items. Even if he says anything to the Royal Knights, they wouldn’t be able to help him.”

“Yea. Let’s head back and spawn camp him.”

“What pitiful excuses for human being that you lot are.”

The Darkness God walked forwards from the forest.

“To think that humanity has degraded this much. Then again, humans are the same in all worlds.”

The three large knights glanced over with evil looks in their eyes.

“What the hell are you talking about?”

“Hey, check it out. Look at all that fancy ass equipment.”

“Yea. I wouldn’t mind being red for awhile if I can get some of that stuff.”

The Darkness God was covered in various unique items. Everything from the robe to the shoes were high class items that were crafted by a Crafting God.

The three thugs exchanged a look and switched their target.

“Haaaah. It seems that even in this aspect, humans have not changed all that much.”

The Darkness God sighed. The three thugs closed in to attack and then they swung their swords at the god.

“Power Strike!”

“Gaia Crusher!”

“Swift Blade!”

They activated their sword skills to attack. However, after the smoke clear, the Darkness God was no longer there. The Darkness God teleported behind of them and then cast another spell.

“Darkness Claw.”

Each of the thugs’ shadows materialized from the floor and formed a sharp claw that stabbed through their chests. They didn't even have time to scream before they died, dropping a few items.

“How strange. Everything seem to drop stuff when they die and sometimes their bodies disappear into light..”

The Darkness God looked over the cliff and saw that the knight boy and the priest girl were alright. After they had fallen, the Darkness God had cast a reverse gravity spell to slow down their fall. It appeared that they had been unconscious when they fell so they didn’t understand why they were still alive so the priest girl was simply healing the knight boy.

After deciding whether to not to kill them, the Darkness God decided against it since their lives had been spared already. So the Darkness God simply walked back into the forest.

“Seinbain they said? It must be a city. I suppose I should drop by and take a look.”

The Darkness God walked through the forest to get to a nearby town to find a map. It would be difficult to find Seinbain without a map.

“Guuuuuoh!”

A monstrous yell echoed throughout the forest. From the sounds of it, there were a significant amount of monsters. A hideous Forest Troll walked out from the forest and attacked the Darkness God. With a slight move of the wrist, the Forest Troll lost its arms.

“Grrrrraaaaaauuuuuh!”

The Forest Troll yelled to summon its allies. Soon enough the forest was swarming with Forest Trolls. After a few seconds, the first forest troll had regenerated its arms.

“Well, I didn’t intend to kill all of you but I suppose that it’ll do for an appetizer.”

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.

A twisted smile appeared on the Darkness God’s face.

*Stab* *Rip* *Boom* *Rip* *Bang* *Rip*

After killing the rest of the Forest Trolls, the Darkness God’s hand stabbed into the Forest Troll King’s chest and ripped out its heart.

*Smash*

The Darkness God crushed the Forest Troll King’s heart and then walked past the bloody corpses of all of the Forest Trolls.

“Well, that was hardly challenging.”

The Darkness God discarded the hunks of monster flesh and walked towards the closest human settlement.

*****************************************************

“Sun!”

A familiar voice called out to him. Although they were both part of the same church, both of them had been too busy with helping out the city that they hadn’t spoken to each other in awhile.

“It’s been a long time Calvin. How are you?”

Sun replied as he continued to browse through the menu as he decided what he was going to eat for lunch.

“I have some good news.”

“Waitress! I would like to order now!”

A nearby waitress came over and Sun started to order his food, along with Alena’s.

“Will that be all?”

“Hm. I suppose a steak for this guy.”

“Understood. We will bring your meal over when it is done.”

Sun took a long drink from his cup and then looked over at Calvin.

“So what’s the news?”

Calvin gave a long sigh.

“It’s something you’ve been waiting for a long time. You would think that you would pay attention to it instead of food.”

Sun could only shrug.

“You could tell me after, but the sooner I order food then the faster that they bring it to my table.”

“Anyways look at this!”

Calvin reached into his robes and pulled out several pieces of paper.

“What are these?”

Sun shuffled through the pages.

“It’s the translated text of those ancient documents that we found a few months back. The High Priest sent someone over the transport gate to give it to us.”

“Is that so?”

As Sun waited for their food, he read through the documents.

****************************************************

The Warrior walked through the forest and looked down on the mortal world. For his idea, he created a church that revolved around strength.

It had taken a significant amount of time to set up, but the humans on the mortal realm recognized him as the God of War. Although his faith was relatively new, it was welcomed by many humans on the mortal realm.

It still could not compare to the Priest’s faith, which she had established many centuries before his. She was had established the largest and most well known faith in the land which was recognized as the Church of the God of Light.

The Mage had finally gotten his church started. However, the mundane world had yet to classify his faith yet. However, the God of War recognized that the Mage’s ideology for his church was very good.

It was a faith the emphasized the advancement of magic in order to increase the standard of living for human society as well as providing moral beliefs to its people.

“Hello again, Goddess of Light. How have you been?”

The God of War walked into her house. The three of them had arranged a meeting today to talk about policies regarding the mundane world.

“I’ve been well. My holy knights have been doing a fine job of spreading my name. I’m a little concerned though about how they seem to be having some strange habits…”

The God of War asked curiously.

“Like what?”

The Goddess of Light scratched her face and replied awkwardly.

“Well, for some reason the Sun Knight is always blond and the Storm Knights all seem to be dying their hair blue. The big problem is with the hair dye that they've been using has been causing them catch strange diseases and die. I didn't say that they needed to be the same as the first generation!”

The God of War nodded his head in understanding.

“Yea. That does sound strange. My Son of the God of War is just supposed to be the strongest leader of the church. Anyways, Mage hasn’t shown up yet?”

The God of War looked around to see that Mage wasn’t here.

“Not yet. He must be running late. It’s understandable since he must be working hard on spreading his faith. Soon enough he’ll receive a title instead of just being called Mage.”

“Goddess of Light! There’s bad news!”

A woman with black hair ran into the room and knelt onto the floor.

“Who’s this?”

The God of War asked the Goddess of Light.

“This is Terra, the Judgment Knight from the 3rd generation. After she passed away in the mortal realm, she ascended and now she manages my faith in the southern regions.”

The God of War looked at Terra and then asked.

“So she was a holy knight? I thought that only men were holy knights in your church.”

The Goddess of Light could only express helplessness over this.

“That’s how my believers have changed it now. In the beginning women could be my holy knights as well. Anyways, what is it Terra?”

Terra stood up from kneeling.

“The Mage has been attacked!”

The two of them stood up in shock.

“What?!”

They asked her to explain everything.

The Mage had been slowly expanding his faith into the mundane world. Though his faith was small, his powers were still very strong. There shouldn’t have been anyone that would try to attack him.

However, a lesser gods saw this as an opportunity. With the new regulations, the gods were no longer allowed to directly influence the continent.

So the lesser gods were gathered together by an average god and they went forth to attack the Mage. The Mage was ambushed and his power was stolen.

“Where is he now?”

They asked about the Mage’s whereabouts.

“He...he has lost most of his power. The God of Chaos has given him protection for the time being. However, the god that stole his power has become stronger than we could handle. We have managed to wipe out most of the lesser gods, but their leader has used the Mage’s power to escape into another world.”

The two of them were outraged.

“There’s no time to waste! Gather everyone!”

The two of them gathered up their disciples and assigned them tasks. Some of them were to hunt down the remnant of the traitor gods, others were to help restore the Mage’s power. A small search team was made to hunt down the traitorous leader of the lesser gods.

**************************************

Sun finished reading the texts. There was certainly a mention of the God of Light, but nothing that would help him return to his world. However, these documents were here which meant that some of the search team had managed to come to this world, so there must be some method of return.

He looked through the rest of the documents and they were mainly reports and small stories about the search team’s progress. From the looks of it, these documents had been moved around quite frequently so there was no way of knowing if they were still relevant.

“So did you manage to find any clues?”

Calvin asked seeing that he had finished looking through the translation.

“Some, but nothing substantial. I found out that there’s a way back but no idea how.”

At this time, their meal finally arrived.

“So what’s your plan now?”

Calvin said as he sliced up his steak and ate it.

“I suppose that for now I’ll just keep helping out in Seinbain. Once we’re done here, then I’ll have to keep hunting down the necromancers and hope that I can find more documents.”

Sun said as he ate his bowl of rice with his side dishes. At that moment, a holy knight ran into the restaurant and looked around desperately.

“Captain Calvin! So this is where you were! Sun is with you as well, this is great!”

The holy knight looked extremely relieved.

“Calm down. What’s going on?”

Calvin tried to soothe the holy knight.

“It’s an emergency. The church has summoned all of its members in Seinbain. The Royal Knights have convened all of its forces and the militia of Freedmen. An army of monsters is attacking!”

“What!”

Calvin yelled out in surprise. There were surely a large amount of monsters attacking the city, but never in such an organized manner.

“What could be the reason for this?”

“We don’t know. However, we are to gather all our forces immediately. The church has sent a request to the High Priest for reinforcements.”

They threw some money onto the table and left the store. They headed towards the church and there were thousands of holy knights and several dozen priests gathered there. The leader of Seinbain’s Church of Freya stood before the crowd.

“Everyone! Begin preparations for siege warfare!”

All the groups dispersed into smaller divisions to prepare supplies for the war. Calvin looked over at Sun.

“Sun, since you’re a priest, we need you to lead a small platoon of holy knights. You can select your own members, but you can only have a maximum of 50 holy knights.”

Calvin thought for another moment.

“You can add in any of your own allies, as well as Alena. However, you will be responsible for them in this war.”

Calvin ran off to form his own platoon. Sun stood there with Alena and then reached his hand over to his ear.

“Have you heard about the war?”

Sun whispered Yong Li and his party.

“Yea, we’re at the castle right now.”

“Hold on for a moment.”

Sun changed his whisper target to one of the Royal Knight commanders. For some reason, Sun was able to whisper to NPCs as well as users. As long as they recognized Sun as their friend he could whisper them. This was very strange since NPCs and users were unable to do this. However, Sun thought of it as some sort of telepathy magic that some people were able to use and others weren't able to.

“Van. I need to ask you for a favor.”

“What is it Sun?”

“I want you to lend me some members of the militia.”

“Is it for the war?”

Even though he was talking using a whisper, Sun still nodded his head.

“Yea. I’m going to lead a platoon so I wanted to borrow some soldiers from you.”

“Alright. Be sure to send us some holy knights though. We need all the help that we can get.”

Van looked through the group of militia members that were gathered in front of him.

“Do you have any people in particular that you wanted?”

“Yes.”

Sun told Van about Calvin’s explanation and that he wanted to include his own party members into his group.

“I see then. I’ll be sure to send them your way.”

Van stood before the group of users and then shouted.

“Yong Li, Xuehua, Feng Yun, Hou Yi, and Da Xia! Report to me immediately!”

The five of them looked surprised but they followed orders and moved forwards.

“You are to assist in helping the Church of Freya. Report the Priest Sun.”

“What?”

They were surprised that Sun had managed to convince a ranking officers of the castle. However, after Van explained their job to them, they decided to head to the church.

In a few days, the monster army would reach the city and war would begin.
