3. Starting the Investigation

Without hesitation, the girl took two steps closer to Bruno. As if Darius' warning earlier was not important at all. "I did attack him with my sword. But then he also retaliated with his three tails, and then he fled into the Darkvale gorge."

"Liar!"

"Calm down, Bruno. What makes you say that Isaura is lying?" This time it was Teacher Ducan speaking. At least their positions were equal for their respective clans. Perhaps they could talk things out more reasonably.

Bruno looked at Ducan, his breath holding back anger. "Xander's ashes were sent to the Celestial palace. And the scent we detected was from Elvendria. That proves enough that you were the ones who sent the ashes to the palace. You are also the ones who have eliminated the only heir of the wolf clan!"

"I think there's a misunderstanding here. I swear on behalf of Elvendria that we didn't kill Xander. We were indeed involved in a rather fierce fight. But that happened because Xander attacked our students first," Ducan explained again.

"But now we have lost Xander! Your defense is completely useless. We just want our Prince to come back to life."

"Isn't there a way to bring him back to life? What about the immortality pendant owned by your clan?" This time Evelyn asked. She couldn't just stay silent watching her clan being oppressed.

"The pendant has been missing for a long time. Xander left to search for it. If he came here, it means you were the ones who stole it." Bruno was losing control more and more when faced with these interrelated perspectives.

"If we set foot in the demon world, the warning alarm would have sounded. Besides, the borders there are tightly guarded, we wouldn't be able to enter, let alone steal," Darius explained.

Bruno's gaze then turned to the sword in Isaura's hand. "If that's the case, let us revive Xander."

"If there's a way, that would be better."

"There is one way to bring Xander back to life."

"What is it?"

"I must use the power of the last remaining sorcerer's magic sword in the universe," she said emphatically. She looked at Isaura with a hungry gaze, as if wanting to seize her right then and there.

Immediately, Isaura hid her sword from sight with her power. "I will never give Vegas to anyone, especially to cunning demonkind like you!"

"How dare you!"

"We are not guilty, why should we be responsible? The ashes sent to the Celestial might not necessarily be Xander's ashes. He is a prince of wolves, it's not easy for him to die, let alone by fairies like us," Isaura explained again.

Bruno's eyes darkened. His teeth had bared, ready to devour the enemies in front of him. "ALL OF THEM! ATTACK THEM!"

After hearing their leader's command, the wolf clans attacked the fairy clan. The two clans had merged into an inevitable battle.

The battle did not stop even when some from both sides had fallen. Until suddenly a drum sounded once—loud enough to deafen them—making them stop their actions.

The golden light from the sky gave a dazzling impression, forcing everyone to close their eyes. After the figure in all white descended among them, the dazzling light disappeared.

"God of Justice?" Bruno muttered softly.

After that, all fairies and wolves bowed to pay respect to the God of Justice. "Greetings to the God of Justice," they said in unison.

Michael, who was the God of Justice, looked at each of them. "I accept your greetings, rise."

Upon hearing Michael's words, they all stood upright again. Michael's calm eyes scrutinized each one of them. "What makes you return to conflict after a thousand years of peace?"

"They killed our prince, Xander, God. We want revenge!" Bruno was the first to speak. From his tone alone, everyone knew he was truly angry.

"That's not true, God! We did fight with Xander, but it's because he attacked us first. And Xander didn't die at our hands, he fled!" Ducan countered.

"Xander attacked Elvendria because they were hiding the immortal pendant of our clan, God."

Darius' anger flared up again upon hearing this. "I've said your security doesn't even allow a mosquito to pass. How could we escape your tight security and steal? Besides, what evidence do you have to accuse us like that?"

"The truth cannot be found through fighting." Michael paused, he looked at Bruno. "What makes you sure that Xander was killed by the fairy clan?"

"Someone sent us Xander's death ashes. And when we smelled it, there was a fairy scent from Elvendria left there."

This time Michael's gaze turned to the fairy clan. "How do you explain that?"

"We fought a few moments earlier. Maybe that's why our scent lingered even though he had turned into ashes," Carlos explained.

"You are the ones who killed him!" Bruno yelled angrily. If Abraham hadn't calmed him down, he might have attacked again.

Michael looked at each of them one by one. "Instead of fighting which only drains your energy, it's better to use your strength to find out who the real murderer is. Bruno, you don't know who sent the ashes, this could be a conspiracy to get your two clans fighting again."

"But, God, it's not fair to the wolf clan. We have made sure that the scent came from Elvendria," Bruno pleaded. His eyes no longer implied anger, but rather a wounded figure. Wounded about the departure of their prince, who was his own nephew.

"Can't you hear the explanation from the fairy clan? I can't decide until one of you has strong evidence. The Palace of Justice doesn't operate solely on mercy. Therefore, for the sake of your own clan's survival, try to find out the truth. The fairies must seek the truth so that their clan is not cornered again. Just like the wolf clan must seek justice for the death of their prince," he walked towards Bruno, who still seemed hesitant. "Don't worry, if the fairy clan is proven guilty, I will give the punishment as agreed upon by the laws of the gods."

Bruno thought for a moment before nodding. Michael took a deep breath. "I don't want to see another battle. After this, start investigating."

After saying that, Michael ascended back into the sky with the golden light picking him up. Making the two clans stare sharply at each other.

Before finally Bruno gave the command. "Let's go. Tomorrow we will start the investigation."

"I don't understand how all of this could happen? We saw it ourselves that Xander fled after injuring us with his tail. How could he be dead?" Eliot said at length as they arrived at the academy.

Right now the four of them were in a room facing directly into the backyard garden. This place was commonly used for informal meetings.

"Can this still be called a coincidence? The wolf clan's immortal pendant went missing, they accused us of stealing it. And now their prince is reported dead and we are once again their target. I think this is the work of a third party who wants to sow discord again between the two clans that have always been at odds since ancient times," Evelyn explained. She was sitting on one of the wooden chairs there. Her face appeared unfriendly, not much different from her other three friends.

"Do you think this is just a trick by the wolf clan to accuse us before the Gods? I mean, we all know how cunning they are," Eliot said.

Isaura, who was standing there biting her fingernails, shook her head slowly. "I don't think so. I could see the clear sadness in Bruno's eyes earlier. If this were just a deception to bring down the fairy clan, they wouldn't go that far. Especially involving the Gods."

The situation fell silent for a few moments before Darius spoke up. "Whatever happens, we'll only find the answers after conducting an investigation."

"But where do we start?" Eliot asked.

"Darkvale Forest. It's the last place we saw Xander."
