12. Sacrificing One's Life

12. Sacrificing One's Life

On the other side of the palace, Darius continued to run with Vegas in his hand. So far, he had managed to evade all of Alonzo's magical attacks from behind him.

But as he kept looking back, Darius bumped into a jug at the edge of the hallway, causing him to fall forward. The elf moved backward into a seated position, adjusting to Alonzo slowly approaching.

"Hand over the sword," Alonzo's voice sounded calm but full of pressure and threat.

Quickly, Darius shook his head. "Even if I die, I won't surrender Vegas to you!"

"So you choose to die, huh? Fine, I'll gladly grant your wish." Alonzo made a hand gesture, directing his magic at Darius.

The elf dodged agilely and then kicked both Alonzo's legs, causing the demon king to fall. Darius seized the opportunity to flee.

But just a few steps away, Darius felt his body unable to move. Alonzo slowly stood behind him, smiling wickedly. "Enough games, little elf. I don't like to joke."

"Let me go!" Darius struggled to break free from Alonzo's grip.

His body kept being pulled back towards Alonzo until Evelyn and Eliot arrived in front of him. The two fairies looked shocked by what they saw.

Realizing this, Darius then shouted, "Take Vegas and run from here!"

Eliot and Evelyn glanced at each other before nodding. Only then did Evelyn run towards Darius and take the sword from his hand. She threw Vegas to Eliot. "Eliot, catch!"

Swiftly, Eliot caught the sword and ran away. Alonzo, witnessing this, became even more furious. He couldn't believe he was being played by these little fairies who couldn't even use magic anymore.

Out of anger, Darius delivered a blow to Evelyn when she was off guard, pushing her back against the wall while holding her stomach. "You clueless girl! I won't let you go after you've gotten Vegas."

After that, Alonzo went after Eliot, who was no longer in his line of sight. Evelyn immediately approached Darius. "Are you okay?"

Darius nodded in response. "We need to help Eliot and figure out a way to get out of here!"

The girl nodded before running after Eliot, who might need her help.

On the other side, in Elvendria, Carlos, Ducan, and Dhruv were gathered in the castle's meeting room. The white-haired elf folded his hands behind his back. "It's been days since they left. No news whatsoever. I'm worried about their condition."

The two mentors in front of him remained silent. Honestly, they were also concerned about the four best knights in Elvendria. Dhruv then looked at Carlos. "Elder, what if we search for them? The Darkvale Forest is the border with Demonhold. It's a dangerous place for them, especially Isaura."

Carlos looked at Dhruv with a gaze that was hard to interpret. Before Ducan spoke up. "Dhruv is right. Although they are the best students in Elvendria, their strength will not be useful in Demonhold."

Stolen story; please report.

There was a moment of silence until Carlos sighed deeply. "I think we should follow them." He then looked at Dhruv. "But before we go, tell Harley to bring a pouch of holy powder. We don't know where they are. And we must prepare for the worst-case scenario."

After Carlos said that, Dhruv and Ducan bowed as a sign of respect. Then they immediately left their Elder to meet Harley and discuss their departure.

As a leader, Carlos had been feeling restless since the departure of the four. But they should be able to hold out until reinforcements arrived.

Back at Demonhold, Eliot was still being chased by Alonzo. This time, the Demon King was not playing around. It was evident from his magic that successfully hit Eliot and made the elf fall.

"Give me the sword," Alonzo hissed softly. He hoped that the elf could surrender it peacefully without him having to exert much effort.

But the elf seemed stubborn. He shook his head instead. "I won't give this sword to you."

With just one movement, Alonzo's magic successfully seized Vegas from Eliot's hand. This made Eliot's eyes widen in shock.

This made Alonzo feel even more powerful. He approached Eliot, whose movements he had already locked. Making the elf sweat with fear.

"Do you think you can fool me? Listen, little elf, I'm no match for you," Alonzo explained. His face looked calm, but Eliot could feel the anger in every word spoken by the Demon King.

Eliot continued to struggle, trying to break free from Alonzo's magic. "Let me go, damn it! You're not a King, you're a coward!"

"What did you say?"

"Just a coward who dares to attack someone who's no match for him! You attack me who has no magic at all. How can you call yourself a King?" Eliot kept voicing out his thoughts, unaware that he was only making Alonzo angrier.

Alonzo's face looked truly furious now. He approached with rising anger. "I am a Demon, the rules of a battle are not important as long as I achieve victory."

Without a word, Alonzo moved his hand, ready to cast magic on Eliot again. The elf had closed his eyes, ready to accept Alonzo's attack.

But several seconds later, Eliot felt nothing. He dared to open his eyes. He saw Isaura blocking Alonzo's magic with her own.

This made Eliot's frozen body able to move again. Isaura turned to Eliot. "Go! Darius and Evelyn are waiting outside!"

"Are you crazy?! How could I leave you here alone," said Eliot. They came here together. How could he leave Isaura behind? Especially since the girl had just saved his life.

Isaura was having difficulty holding back Alonzo's magic. She exerted all her strength. "Eliot, please, go! I can't hold this any longer."

"But--"

"Eliot, please, go! You must help Darius and Evelyn follow the plan to leave this cursed place!" Isaura shouted loudly. She really couldn't hold Alonzo's power any longer.

This time, Eliot nodded in understanding. He glanced at Alonzo for a moment before finally leaving the palace as ordered by Isaura.

A few moments after Eliot left, Isaura was pushed back because her energy was almost drained. The girl slumped weakly, holding her stomach.

"What were you thinking? Do you think you can save your friends while you die here alone?" Alonzo grinned.

Slowly, the girl looked up. Her gaze didn't show any fear at all. "You may have Vegas, but true power doesn't need it to win."

A corner of Alonzo's lips lifted. "So now you're really giving Vegas to me?"

"I'm not giving it! Vegas was born from sacred power. It will return to its original owner. Because holy power will never be willing to help those who are on the path of darkness like you!"

Right after Isaura said that, she opened the brown pouch given by Evelyn. Taking the magical powder the girl brought from the peak of Mount Elvendria and threw it at both of Alonzo's eyes.

"ARGHHHH! MY EYES!" The Demon King groaned in pain. Making him drop Vegas that he was holding because both of his hands were busy rubbing his eyes.

Seeing that, Isaura then took Vegas and left the palace to follow her friends. Once in the courtyard, Isaura could see the three of them already gathered under a big tree, at the end of the bridge connecting the palace to the forest in front of them.

Without waiting any longer, the girl immediately ran as fast as she could. Once in front of them, she immediately handed Vegas to Darius. "Please, take care of Vegas."

"What are you going to do?" Evelyn asked curiously.

This time Evelyn and Isaura's gazes met. The wizard then smiled thinly. "I have to go back inside. Xander is still there."
