Chapter 13 - Preparations for the 'party' (2)

December 5th

20 days before the apocalypse...

The next day, both Clyde and I were barely able to get out of bed properly, and all because of those heavy bags we had to carry the day before. So, since we didn't have to do anything today, I decided for ourselves that we would do absolutely nothing all day and just use this day to rest. After all, a tired body, as well as not working properly, also gets in the way of your decisions.

And since we weren't going to do anything today, I decided to combine the useful with the pleasant, and to make the day less boring for both him and me, we decided to use our Oktok to communicate. And to be honest, this is the first time in years that I've been able to have such a relaxed conversation with someone, especially after everything that's happened to me.

After I've finished talking to Clyde, I leave Oktok for a brief moment. And before I knew it, there I was, lost in my thoughts and for no apparent reason, staring at the ceiling of my room. However, the pain from the effort I'd made yesterday came back, only this time even stronger, which snapped me out of my thoughts. However, if there was one thing I could identify differently while writhing in pain on my bed, it was that the pain I was feeling at that moment didn't even compare to the other physical and mental pain I had already felt while trying to survive.

I could have tried to do something to relieve that pain, but I decided that the best medicine for me at that moment was rest. After all, that skinny pre-teen body would need some time to fully recover. What made me even more frustrated when I thought about it was that this body was nowhere near the body I was in before I died. So, in order for it to recover more quickly, there's nothing a good night's sleep can't solve.

19 days before the apocalypse...

Today, when I got up from my bed and went to the bathroom to brush my teeth, I was able to confirm that everything I had been through before I died really hadn't been a dream or a nightmare like everyone was saying. Because everything my sisters were doing that day was, for some reason, very fresh in my memory, as if I knew everything that was going to happen and, for some reason, it really was happening. However, even with all those things happening right in front of me, I still had one foot behind me, because it could be fate trying to play a trick on me.

As I stared at my own reflection in the mirror, I even considered trying to convince them that I knew exactly what was going to happen in the future. However, since I didn't clearly remember everything that was going to happen, I also had the more plausible possibility that they wouldn't believe anything I said.

"They already think I'm crazy. The only thing worse that could happen is that they think I'm even crazier."

Murmured Lincoln, as he walked out of the bathroom.

HALF AN HOUR LATER...

As my body had already recovered one hundred percent from the pain I'd been feeling the previous few days, I decided to use the hundred dollars I'd had left over from shopping to buy more supplies. After all, too much is never too little.

16 days before the apocalypse...

Since nothing so relevant had happened in the previous days, I didn't see any point in telling you what happened. Today, I wasn't going to tell you anything either; fortunately, I decided to do something that, in my view, is quite important, at least from my point of view, of course. Since today was Saturday and we wouldn't have to go to school, I decided it was high time we prepared something that could be useful for fighting. So, Clyde and I started by getting some wood and a few tools, such as a hammer, saw, etc., so that we could make weapons.

As we had no experience in carpentry, let alone knowing what we were doing properly, the only thing we could do at that point was try to turn some ordinary objects into weapons. After making everything as basic as possible, I hid everything together with the supplies in the attic of the garage.

10 days before the apocalypse...

How long has it been since we last saw you guys? How have you been? I've had a pretty good time these days, even if I haven't done anything that relevant in half of them.

However, even though I haven't done anything that amazing these days, I haven't stood still either. After all, both Clyde and I spent those days collecting and gathering resources that might be useful, and I still had to worry about making improvised weapons, while doing everything I could to ensure that no one found out what we were doing. Although this part we didn't manage to do so well, because I can't even count how many times we almost got found out, but by sheer luck, and with a few lies, we managed to pull off all these scams.

As I still didn't really know what I was going to do today, I kind of decided it was time to tell Ronnie Anne everything I knew about the future. After all, if I prepared myself for what was to come, not only would she be able to protect her own family, but she would help me when this shit started and I wouldn't have to make the effort of having to protect my family and hers too.

I was even going to ask Lori to take me further, as she was already going to visit the Casagrande’s. I just decided to go with her, but of course after she refused several times, she gave in and let me go along.
