Chapter 15 - Catching some zzz's

The Future Top Model event officially started two days after lunch with Jenna. The other candidates were models who just started out and had the potential to be famous. Unfortunately, Faer came across a familiar face the moment he arrived. It was William Debois, the model he had a dispute with at that party.

When William saw him, he Hmph’d and walked away with his friends. It seemed like everyone had already formed groups, only Faer was by himself. Faer noticed that there was even a few people he saw at the party mixing in with the crowd.

A middle-aged woman walked on the small platform and demanded everyone’s attention.

“For these four weeks, your every move will be recorded and broadcasted on the internet. The pictures taken on the competition days will be uploaded as soon as they’re taken, there will be no edits. The judges will vote along with the netizens based on your performance, and the person with the fewest vote will be eliminated. Any electronics you have with you will be confiscated until the end of the competition. This should have already been explained to you, but are there any questions?”

Faer clenched his teeth then massaged his eyes to calm himself down. Jenna never mentioned any of this on purpose. What was that woman thinking?

Since there were no questions, the lady nodded in satisfaction as she started introducing the judges.

Cole Greene, a popular male model who also won this competition two years before, Diem Larue, a popular female model who retired just last year and Jared Queen, the best runway coach in the country.

“I hope you all adjust to being constantly recorded since starting from now your private lives will be more or less nonexistent.” Done with saying her piece, the lady walked off the platform.

The public will have a major say in who stays in the competition, and though she said the uploaded photos will be what’s judged, Faer wasn’t naïve enough to not get her actual meaning. When she said performance, she actually meant their performance throughout the whole month. Models with nasty personalities and who were also uninteresting would have a slim chance of making it far unless the model's physical appearance was outstanding enough balance out their behavior.

The models were staying at a villa and three contestants were assigned to one room. There were nine guys and 6 girls so it worked out well. Girls and guys could share the same room, apparently because they were all adults. Faer thought that the production team was indeed clever; relationships would make for greater entertainment.

Unpacking his luggage, he sat on the bed and observed his two roommates. This room only had men, for which Faer was infinitely grateful. Being caught up in drama because of a girl did not appeal to him in the slightest.

This story originates from a different website. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.

Stifling a yawn, Faer took his shoes off and bundled up under his covers. The cameraman was quite perturbed, everyone else was clamoring to be recorded but this man just went straight to bed.

Rising with the sun, Faer hurried to shower. There were only three bathrooms and having so many people here, three was not nearly enough.

‘The early bird catches the most worm.’

Finally feeling awake, Faer went to the living room where the others were gathered as they stared at the TV that was playing a prerecorded video of Cole.

The theme for today was: Big splash. It was quite simple; the contestants had to do portray that they were having fun while playing in the water.

Thinking on how to tackle the first challenge, Faer made his way to the kitchen where another player was making breakfast. She looked at him and asked if he wanted anything to eat. Feeling a little happy that someone took the initiative to speak with him and also offered some of her food, Faer smiled and nodded in affirmation.

The other players in the room snickered as their eyes flashed a malicious light at Faer who was leisurely drinking the porridge but Faer was not aware of this.

When they got to the shoot, it was bustling with staff members running here and there, setting things up in a hurry.

Faer couldn’t shake off the feeling of drowsiness as he continued yawning while tears that refused to fall hung on his long eyelashes.

The girl who made him breakfast walked up behind him and suggested he take a rest in the tent until it was time. Unable to think straight in his drowsiness, Faer followed as the girl led him to a tent farther away from the shoot.

Resting in one of the many chairs, Faer got as comfortable as possible before closing his eyes involuntarily.

While Faer was asleep, the shoot progressed until late. The judges now wondering where the last remaining model wandered off to, they searched until they found him comfortably dozing away on a chair.

The judges were undoubtedly upset, as they shook him awake.

Opening his eyes slowly, Faer saw the judges and a number of contestants looking at him with varying expressions.

“Is it my turn now?” Faer, who was ignorant of the situation asked.

“It was your turn two hours ago! Hurry up and get ready, we’re losing daylight!” Cole snapped.

Not knowing why he was getting hostile gazes, Faer nodded and slowly stood up then walked unsteadily to the person in charge of wardrobe.

Still feeling sluggish, Faer finally arrived in front of the camera.

Seeing such a unique looking boy, the photographer could not contain his excitement.

“Ah, what a beautiful fairy! Truly, I can’t take it. Look at the camera darling.” The photographer said as a little drool made its way down his chin.

A few minutes passed after that and Faer's body refused to respond the way he wanted it to.

‘What the fuck is the use of having modeling talent and not being able to put it to use when I want to?!’

Faer had yet to realize that this grogginess was very unusual. After being constantly yelled at by the photographer for twenty minutes, the shoot finally came to an end.

The photographer shook his head in regret. How could such a lovely boy be so vapid?

At the entrance of the tent, William had a sneer on his face as he saw Faer struggling to respond to the photographer’s request. He was sure he told that girl to put enough sleeping drugs to knock out an elephant in the porridge.

“How is he still conscious? The plan was to make him sleep for the whole day but this is alright too, His pictures will surely be the worst out of all of us.” A malicious smile appeared across his handsome face.
