Chapter 15: Personal History

Chapter 15: Personal History

It took 3 hours of intensive efforts for Zerle to stabilize Eon. Eon was stuck in a coma from the physical trauma. Eon's mind had receded into itself since his body had not had to heal on its own from severe wounds before, and the loss of oxygen put his brain into survival mode.

Eon's psyche was unstable from before, and his psychological processes had not caught up with his body due to the regenerative effects of the tutorial. What Eon didn't know was that the tutorial also halted his life processes, that's why he was still physically and mentally 18. He may have learned to fight and spent a lot of time in the tutorial. Still, his state of mind was largely unable to change, which is how he was able to retain his sanity despite countless years of isolation, boredom, and sensory deprivation.

For five days, Eon had countless dreams going through events that led him to this point, from the first day off Earth. The good and the bad were deeply intertwined, but for the first time he could bother remembering, Eon felt a deep sense of peace. Dreams are an important part of mental health.

The events that a person experiences are processed through dreaming. Even if they don't remember it, people dream dozens of times a night. Eon had only recently been able to start dreaming again, which is why nightmares had assailed him, it was an overflow of information from years without real processing. These five days finally gave Eon the ability to return to a more normal mental state.

After he finished processing, Eon woke up. His body was wrapped in many casts with several tubes inserted into his body, concentrated around his injuries. He had healed a good amount thanks to bodily revelation and the treatments, but he reckoned that he was still a week or two away from being back to full health. Eon sat back to enjoy the silence. He had been working pretty hard since he had come to the sect despite being on the upper side of the mountain which is known to be much cushier, so he took this time to enjoy some rest. After about an hour, Zerle walked into the room and noticed Eon's eyes were open.

Zerle said, "Hey you, you're finally awake. Good, we need to have a chat." As he sat down next to the hospital bed and gave Eon a deep look, continuing with: "Has Hela told you why I have been having you come to my home every day?"

"No, she hasn't. She made a specific point not to."

"Then I will explain it to you. Initially, I took an interest in you for a single reason. You lack all meridians, yet still have the space to contain them, which should not be possible for a living organism that isn't a demon beast. But not only that, your bloodline is incredibly weak, the weakest I have seen of a humanoid. Even having awakened it at some point in your life, its power only amounts to a little above that of an average person. In spite of that, your actual strength is enough to let you hold out in a fight with an entry body tempering cultivator. You become more and more interesting with every passing day. I want to know how you are this strong despite your handicaps as well as how you received your handicaps."

"That's a fairly loaded question, you know."

"Yes, I do. But understand, I hold no ill intent towards you. If I wanted to, it wouldn't take me too long to take this information from you whether you are willing or not, but it would also likely cripple you in mind and body. You have given me a reason to do neither. Besides, thanks to that brat Lein pushing me into a corner, I am technically your master now. I have a responsibility to at least understand your situation, even if I took you as a disciple unwillingly, I still respect the bond between a disciple and their mentor. So I ask you again to tell me what you know."

Eon thought deeply, and Zerle didn't rush him. After some minutes, Eon let out a soft sigh and said: "Fine. I will tell you my story. It's gonna take a while though since you lack any context of my home."

Eon sat laid back with a groan, and over hours, told Zerle the important parts of his life story, specifically focusing on the fact that he is from a different planet where cultivation didn't currently exist despite the concept of it existing, a place where technology reigned supreme. He then went on to talk about the tutorial and his experiences within, going into detail about bodily revelation.

Eon knew some of the implications of not having meridians, it meant he couldn't cultivate, and that he was an anomaly among normal life forms. If he wanted a chance to truly understand his situation and the questions he had, his best bet was to tell Zerle what had happened. He felt that could only take the risk and bear the possible consequences.

As Eon went through his story, Zerle listened intently without interrupting. Once it was over, Zerle launched into a barrage of questions, he seemed most interested in the technology of Earth, its scientific concepts, its history, and bodily revelation.

The questions themselves took longer to answer than explaining Eon's past, so they took two days to go over them. Finally, when Zerle had gone over his most pressing questions, he let out a goofy-looking grin. "You have no idea how much this means to me and how much you have confirmed. I was not wrong to take you as a disciple and save your life."

"But for now, this can be put on the back burner. We need to discuss the near future. You became my disciple at quite possibly the worst time. In 8 months, the outer disciple trial begins, and with your current strength, your chance of survival is low, especially if your luck is bad."
